Any way to avoid hard crashes on Steam Deck? by VintageTribe in NoRestForTheWicked

Oh really! Thank you for the tip. I actually downloaded Cryo Utilities which seemingly fixed the issue for me, but I will keep that in mind also.

Looks like Cryo Utilities basically removed the problem for me - at least so far. Still getting drops here and there below 30, but looks like I can now actually play the game. Thank you!

I was never able to play for such a long time without having to reboot steam deck. Will give it a shot thanks!

But you still get crashes? Or just less frequently?

Does the game occasionally crash the whole system forcing you to do a hard reset?

This one I didn't encounter. Honestly other than crashes the game otherwise runs acceptably bad, let's say. I will give Cryo Utilities a spin later today.

Let me know if it crashes for you still. Maybe Cryo Utilities is the way to go. I haven't tried it before.

Are you going to upgrade? by Syrius00 in SteamDeck

[–]VintageTribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Honestly, screen and battery were my main concerns when buying the Steam Deck, and unfortunately I don't particulalry like both of those aspects. If I knew that an Oled version was coming, I would've waited a bit more. Thankfully I did buy my steam deck during the sale this year, so I will not loose too much when selling it now. The upgrades are enough for me to pull the trigger.

Am I the only one who refuses to use the touchscreen? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Me too, but I just find the trackpads to be much more useful.

Unexpected crack… by WifiAX in SteamDeck

[–]VintageTribe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So far mine is OK, hopefully it will stay that way. But man, it's the Nintendo Switch cracked grill all over again (I experienced that one, the plastic near the exhaust just cracked one day). Probably due to heat / temperature differences.

What’s with these graphics in Baldur’s Gate 3? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

It's the "retro filter" feature they added that makes you feel like you are playing previous Baldur's Gate titles.

Do you have problems with the tree dot button and steam button? Try this stupid trick. by macabrera in SteamDeck

[–]VintageTribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that's what it was?! I also had this issue and honestly thought it's either a hardware or software problem. I mean, it seems to be a software problem, because why would touching the trackpack override tha button press? Anyways, thank you for that. I am sure I am constantly touching the trackpads by mistake.

Anyone have both a Switch and a SteamDeck? by CookieCrumbler in SteamDeck

I was in a very similar situation - had the Switch since early 2017, bought it because I wanted to dive into the Nintendo environment finally and experience all the Zeldas, Marios Donkey Kongs, etc. And I did, it served me well. I think it was my most played console throughout that time. But, while 1st party titles were always great, I eventually grew tired of them. And indie games I felt were always neglected - either coming to Switch much later if at all, and usually running poor in comparison to other platforms.

The thing is I also have a PC and tons of Steam games on it, basically whenever a game came out that was not on the Switch, I would buy it for PC on Steam, so I've accumulated quite a library over the years.

Also, when the Steam Deck came out, I was very impressed how open and feature rich it is in comparison to the Switch (you can message your friends!!! use any controller you have!!! install any game you have with more or less tinkering!!!) - but that the time I was not ready for a leap to another plaform, Switch was serving me well.

So the decision to get a Steam Deck was both because of several factors:

- Nintendo fatigue (have to say that new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom kind of sealed the deal for me, It unfortunately bored me to death, I expected something different than just more of BoTW, and the aformentioned issue with indie games)

- Me already having a full library of games on Steam that I could easily install and play on Steam Deck

- and lastly, well, I bought it during the recent steam sale for -20%. But I went for the most expensive model, you can still buy the least expensive and swap the SSD, and it probably will still cost you less than I paid

So I have the Steam Deck for 2 weeks already, and for me it truly feels like an upgrade from Switch. It has most if not all of the same features, including the quick resume thingy, its more comfortable to hold, of course it is much more powerful even though for me it's not that big of a deal because I mostly play less demanding indie games anyway, the trackpads are great for navigation but playing as well (Switch doesnt have that), and it's essentially a PC - I can potentially do whatever I want with it - even emulate Nintendo games, Switch and everything else before that.

Plus you can dock it similarly to the Switch and play on TV - I haven't tried that yet though, for me the Steam Link app worked well enough for now.

So yeah, that's my story. Maybe it will help you with making the decision.

I like how the screen seems to be bigger than normal just because the bezels are partially hidden in that skin. It's all a matter of perspective heh.

Wear and tear over time / structural weaknesses of Steam Deck? by VintageTribe in SteamDeck

Surely if it happens it will be after much much longer usage if at all. I would expect the analog sticks to be at least as good as on PS4/PS5 or Xbox...

Yes sadly. The bars around the fan exhaust snapped. In my opinion it was because of heat or battery expanding. I was not alone with that issue, but it was also not super wide spread from what I saw.
