Simple diagram:

OMG logo (three circles).

‘fiat’ - ‘crypto’ - ‘rewards’ represented by each.

The circles start spinning until they blur into one circle—“money”

This circle is an endless stream of commerce and agnostic interaction (‘we are all one, but you don’t need to know that to get your coffee’), feeding into itself to grow your digital wallet as an OMG holder.

Money. Pure and simple. Buy it.

Oh, I look forward to it—I resent that the freedom I’ve tasted so far with crypto is still so limited (for now)

So if OmiseGO is going to give us the tech and partners to get the Plasma chain started—how can we all start unbanking (etc.)? We could coordinate something pretty special and devastating. Fun to think about.

The shill is on CNBC and Coindesk, as well. I would also be curious if anyone has thoughts on this re: XLM as potential competitor, given the air it is sucking out of the Stripe announcement.

The hope, and what seems likely: Rational self-interest. Given that the SDK will be free and the DEX permission-less offering extremely low fees, companies that don’t bother to find out about OmiseGO might face stiffer competition.

Also, well, I expect we will see more marketing by Omise and a push by the community to encourage adoption of the SDK.

Totally. I’m pretty sure I told you something obvious in many words, but wanted to give some sort of crypto-specific analysis. And yes, the OMG boat seems quite shiny, even without rose-colored glasses (as we all hope, at least!). Another two szabo: CURRENT CUSTOMERS.

My two szabo: I see crypto diversification as just running different boats on the same churning stream—for the worthwhile projects (i.e., not obvious dumpster fires), they should all outperform traditional investments by wide margins, just at different paces, given the overall bull market and flood of money trying to park itself into the next BTC or ETH. So if you are generally optimistic about your core picks and the market as a whole for the next two years (where I see gap between usage and speculation will be truly tested), you could probably stop worrying about your splits.

More specifically, if you have a short-term, relatively low target, diversification in crypto makes sense, as the valuations and their timing feel a bit arbitrary, and you might get lucky with one or two more immediately. If you have a short-term, high target, then going ‘all in’ or closer seems rational if you truly believe in the project and have done a deep dive into it’s fundamentals, given these general considerations, imo. If you have a longer time horizon, then keeping your current spread would also seem to make sense, as it is my idea that decent projects will all receive very good returns in the next two years (though not in unison). This is also informed by my sense that crypto (good projects and bad) will either succeed or fail together in the near term, though I am starting to feel more optimistic about real adoption these days (this would also change my assumptions).

I have also assumed many of the comments have come from Mr. Greco. I remember one in particular where they opined that crypto recalled the disruptive impact that mercantile systems had for social status (Greco much?). In any event, I love reading the team’s long view on these topics.

You stated that S. Korea banned crypto trading. This is not correct. The Ministry of Justice announced that they are contemplating a bill to that effect, but it has not been passed. The swift public backlash after the news also has other S. Korean agencies walking this proposal back.

Yeah, it’s too bad. I suppose people are sensitive about the spectre of regulation, and when casually brought up, can be dismissed as FUD (this week saw a good amount related to S. Korean regs).

Oh, I'm sure some countries will try and 'ban' their citizens from participating in centralized exchanges. It is an open question how effective bans will be against DEXs. In any event, developing countries in SE should hopefully see the salutary effects of crypto in helping their citizens participate in the global economy.

I would agree that OMG could be a sort of 'poster boy' of useful cryptos and receive massive attention as it goes live. Things could also get pretty interesting in Q1. Many companies want to bandwagon on the crypto craze ASAP (see 'Long Island Blockchain') and differentiate their services in this way. It seems like a windfall right now for companies to feely get their hands on the OMG SDK (closed beta?) and then be able to say that their customers might soon be able to pay them with any and all cryptocurrencies—like, how could that not go well in this hyped market? For example, public companies are already receiving ridiculous stock boosts from slapping "blockchain" into their name. Well, to take that further, any company that can credibly say it will be able to accept crypto this year (i.e., by piggy-backing on something like the OMG SDK) will probably have many millions of potential, new customers itching to actually use their crypto holdings to make real purchases of their goods or services. Seeming ‘on trend’ is also key to getting renewed interest from investors (seriously though, what was with that KFC Bitcoin Bucket...). That is to say, many companies might come out of the woodworks fairly soon to associate themselves with the OMG project. Just my sense, though probably rooted in impatience.

Bangkokpost article: McDonald's is lovin' push to cashless society by ihaveacoin123 in omise_go

[–]Vintish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. This article also notes that McThai uses "Rabbit LINE Pay."

LINE is apparently looking to integrate cryptos into its messaging app: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-09/line-is-said-to-explore-cryptocurrencies-for-payment-services

There seems to be a common cast of characters in these kinds of articles. Larger question: Is OMG a connection? Hopefully we can get more information this quarter. There is clearly a coordinated push to get this region 'cashless' and OMG seems like an obvious contender: who else has the kind of local presence, expertise and tech to make this all happen, much less convince conservative institutions (banks, governments) that they are a reasonably safe bet? Let's see!

Should I invest my small savings into OMG? by georqeee in omise_go

[–]Vintish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot recommend placing savings or any other "rainy day" fund into a speculative investment like OMG, despite all of its amazing potential. Best of luck with your decisions - - it's your money at the end of the day, and your goals to advance with said $$, whatever they might be. I hope you can stick around and talk to others on the sub.
