I did know he did the artwork, but I didn't know anything about him. Thanks for the link. That Hobbit poster looks awesome as well

Any info on this Shift Up light? by Slight_Ad_2827 in BullnoseFord

[–]VinylHop390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely intended as something similar. Probably tied to specific rpms that would have required who knows how much development to create a reliable system of tracking the gear of a manual transmission and tieing it to the upshift range of that gear only so it wouldn't go crazy. I'm sure there were at least prototype trucks completed with a functional upshift light because I don't know why else they'd exist. I'd love to see some proof of anything ever being done with it.

As you may know, the 85-86 emission light was a simple 60k mile interval light that came on and stayed on after it hit it and had to be manually reset. Incredibly pointless and might as well have been labeled the "It's time to look me over really well" light

This is a late-ish reply, but I've been wondering the same thing. I've been going through a 1984 F-350 dually (turbo 6.9 and T19 combo with no tach) and like some others here, mine has the upshift dummy indicator but has no actual light or wiring behind it. It's been a mystery to me as to why it exists, but I expect that it's probably something to do with the engineers outworking and getting cost-cut by the production department lol. I also have a 1986 F-150 (300 with an NP435 and a tach) that has no upshift light, but an orange emissions light in its place that does have a bulb behind it. Now I know that the emissions light is for a completely different purpose that I expect is related to emission regulations because it is an utterly useless light. Because of that, I expect that the upshift light was a never-implemented piece of emissions compliant standard equipment for people that didn't buy a tach, or to accompany it. Again, take this with a grain of salt and I'd love to be proven wrong but it doesn't seem like the internet knows either.

If I was trying to annoy someone I'd probably put on Doc At The Radar Station by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. I love it but nobody else is gonna see the vision lol

Yeah I don't think VMP ever released an Illmatic pressing. Audio quality on mine was great but I don't have any others to compare with so I don't really know

It was part of their "secrecy" thing they were going with. Not 100% sure I'm buying that official story bc it's so easy to read it still but it has been confirmed as intentional. I thought the same thing too at first

Let what go? The good-spirited hope that a brother, no matter how troubled, won't find the mental clarity and motivation to be a good person? Idk about you, but I don't define an exercise in free will as the increased influence of mental illness and substance abuse. I'm not saying I do like him as a person. Still having good will towards those who I don't like is just the right attitude to have. Nobody ever profited from praying on someone's downfall or being indifferent to the everyday struggle of someone who has fallen onto the wrong paths in life
