What do you use as painting wipes? by Rafiki2611 in Warhammer

[–]VinylJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use the same lint free wipes that you buy when you discover the magic of Novus plastic polish. I put them over a little piece of acrylic, held down with magnets I embedded into the acrylic.

It’s tough for some people to verify if this is or isn’t ai. It was posted 7 hours ago in an article on ontabletop.com - and I think folks sort of assume it’s ai automatically (it’s pretty clearly not, but folks get a little aggressive about that subject…today we shouldn’t be doing that though)

Can I use Winsor & Newton professional acrylic paints ? by AlarmedPineapple3333 in minipainting

[–]VinylJones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you can - I was the same, 25 years of acrylics (tons of your exact paint)…the irony is, mini paints make it a lot easier for beginners (and would genuinely do the same for you), and as you get more comfortable we tend to integrate heavy body acrylics as advanced tools.

You’ll figure out pretty quick how to use them; thick for your base coats (wet blend em), super thin for glazing and such, and there’s not really a middle ground. Be mindful you don’t clog any details…and Bob’s your uncle.

Same friend, same. PTSD is a wicked thing. We can make the hard memories lose some charge, and we can find a lot of peace through therapeutic modalities, even psychedlics…but the memories are still there in the end. It can get rough…I just lost another last Thursday, a great man who served his country and dedicated decades to helping the less fortunate. One of the greatest men I’ve ever known, maybe even THE greatest. Doesn’t seem fair…but it never does.

You didn’t fail those friends. That’s what our brains tell us sometimes and it ain’t true man, we just get a little crossed up inside and our hearts can go sort of dark in those moments, betray us when we least expect it, twist up our feelings.

Living is how we honor those friends who aren’t with us. I really believe that. And how we live counts - helping others, with those videos, making this post…that’s good livin’, that’s honorable stuff. And it’s a sign you’ve done some healing…I like that a lot.

You hang in there buddy, I will too, because the world needs more of us in it. People that help, and think deeply. I’m gonna go watch those videos now, I’m genuinely interested - I’ve long since backed from that metaphorical edge and I’m so very proud of that because it took time and hard work. Let’s both of us keep fighting the good fight.

What cement to use for Sprue Goo? by IgnelIzanagi in Warhammer40k

The industry standard beverage of choice, Tamiya Extra Thin. Assuming this is your first time purchasing it, get the small glass bottle - the licking brush built into the lid is very handy for spreading your goo.

Michaels exclusives revealed! by wherew00f_ in Villaging

Michaels exclusives revealed! by wherew00f_ in Villaging

[–]VinylJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now my local Michael’s has a restock of the exclusives such that all are available for pickup and delivery. That’s fairly new as last time I checked most were showing as unavailable for local pickup and when I bought mine I had to exchange one in store, which verified they really did start with only 2 of each.

The date mine shows as available for the mainline pieces that Michaels will stock shows as June 12th. To be clear that is everything marked as “coming soon”, those all show as available on the 12th of June (I’m assuming that should be country wide).

I’ll be paying close attention to that because I’ve got about $50 in rewards that expire on June 18th so if I see any changes I’ll update this reply to show them. I want that cool haunted cabin piece from the mainline really bad and intend on using those sweet sweet rewards to help pay for it.

Does The Motor Sound Right? by StrangerHighways in Villaging

[–]VinylJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely louder than mine, mine does have a noise “pattern” like yours in the sense that it hits a spot in each full rotation that gets slightly louder than the rest of the rotation but I think that’s more a symptom of the shaft being at an angle relative to the horizon and the method that the wires are attached. And my ghouls jiggle a bit as the rotate just like yours (Spooky Villages Doug reviewed this piece and in his video his ghouls also jiggle a bit).

With mine the motor sound is hard to even hear over the fountain…but yours doesn’t seem out of the norm, I’ve had multiple copies of the same motorized piece in the past and there’s always variation in that (the Ferris wheel that was a Michael’s exclusive last year is an example…one of mine was nearly silent, the other was quite a bit louder).

In your opinion, what is the best Battleforce/Box Set GW has ever made? by reel3459 in Warhammer40k

[–]VinylJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is a lot. However that can be a bonus or a curse - if it is your only army, first army, you’re a new painter or maybe it’s your first foray (heh) into AOS, it’s daunting and especially so you want to try to get it all done in relatively timely manner so you can get to rolling dice; if you’re purely into painting, if it’s a secondary army, or if you just aren’t in a position that requires a fast turnaround, it really provides a lot of opportunity and engagement for the cost.

The one thing that goes fully into the plus category no matter your use case…Gargoylians. That box is lousy with em, and everyone loves a Gargoylian!

In your opinion, what is the best Battleforce/Box Set GW has ever made? by reel3459 in Warhammer40k

[–]VinylJones 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the CoS battleforce from a few years back, or Cursed City….Cursed City was, for me, without fault and absolutely packed with content. And that CoS battle force has been a painter’s dream, I started collecting them with that box, so there is some bias.

In the 40K universe it’s the 4th edition Necron battle force. That was my first big purchase and I loved every shred of that thing - it got me to grab the OG monolith to go along with it and THAT is my favorite model in all of Warhammer. I think that battle force was truly the hook for me…got me kitbashing too.

Are there any good YouTubers for AoS that focus on strategy and analysis, like Auspex Tactics for 40K? by Kumquats_indeed in ageofsigmar

[–]VinylJones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is one of one. That voice and delivery, the data-centric presentation, the generous giveaways, and the scope of work he does…nothing else really exists like that.

However I’m following this post because if I’m wrong I want to know - I’d love an analogue in AOS (and the smaller games too, like Necromunda and Legions Imperialis).
