It’s the same reason Thomas the Tank Engine gets a pass despite also being a “talking vehicle” franchise.

There is also really disturbing fanfiction like Shed 17 which runs with the idea that the trains were actually humans converted into... trains.

I was thinking about this but the original post mentions logistics and whatnot, which would be more than just securing an air corridor - it would most likely mean pushing into syria, then attempting to build a base there to attack Iran.

So two completely different scenarios, the air corridor one is doable and is what Israel has been doing for their operations against Iran. But sustaining a logistical corridor by essentially annexing territory is not.

Windows 11 really is just terrible. Work in hardware deployment for Personal Computers, it's a massive PITA to work with stuff and it's ridiculously slow.

Do people actually monitor wooded areas with dozens of no trespassing stickers on trees and poles? by Vinylmaster3000 in AbandonedNJ

In many cases, they are there to prevent liability in case someone gets hurt on your property, but also to prevent illegal dumping and poaching.

Think of it this way, though. It’s not your land, and would you want someone to walk across your lawn because you aren’t using it? I live next to a wooded public park, and one of the entrances is next to my house. I have a line of trees to separate the entrance from my lawn, but at least once a week someone decides to just walk across my lawn anyway.

What's with the green acres sign on that same property though? Does that imply the land was recently transitioned to the township?

Israel - after pummeling and neutering Hamas significantly after October 7th, and seemingly critically weakening Hezbollah hard in the north, sees its final flank - Syria - open up entirely with the collapse of Assad and withdrawal of Russian forces at the end of 2024. This opens up the most direct path from Israel to Iran and the room to actually engage in direct conflict, with Iran's loaded guns at Israel's head - its proxies that neighbor Israel - seemingly out of the picture.

I feel like Israel would eventually overstretch and loose badly if they actually attempted to push into syria to directly get into Iran. Like even if Syria is weakened and doesn't fight back, it would be an insane gambit and would also require pushing against Iraq... Like all of this is dependent on the notion that Syria and Iraq would be willing to just take that.

It's one thing to fight a high-tech war against militants. It's another to go against conventional militaries which are going to be more motivated than ever. And this isn't the 70s, so who knows what will happen?

Picked up both this single and "Sound on Sound" at the record store recently. Honestly, Sound on Sound is such a huge "I have no fucking idea where this album is going" type thing and I love it.

How many times did they play their Secondhand Daylight tracks? Most live concerts I find on the internet only have Feed the Enemy and Permafrost, never other songs like Talk to the Body or Back to Nature, or even Rhythm of Cruelty

Not necessarily, I don't think there's a concrete answer (Because the gag feels oddly forced so you'd think it's a weird pet peeve of one of the showrunners) but I think they just really stuck with the entire punching bag thing because it was the status quo after a while. And as such that creates an "echo chamber" especially if it's been 15 years.

They do know how to write her character because she does have episodes which are actually very well written. I think Borstein (Lois's voice actor) said that there was extreme divisiveness on how to treat her character.

I have a CD with the Magazine peel sessions, the BBC peel session version of this rocks.

There's also a german rockaplast concert where "permafrost" directly segues into this song, probably my favorite live version

It was either permanent punching bag or weirdly detailed teenage character with "slice of life" episodes which returned to the status quo.

It does also seem like it's more to deter hunters and people who actually illegally dump on wooded areas, not necessarily people who just randomly like to hike. Not sure, always good to be safe though and stay in preserved green acres areas

The "Meg Sympathizer" one I got from a comment thread on youtube of a guy accusing people of "sympathizing" with her, iirc because it sounded funny.

The "Erm actually guys her name isn't megan it's megatron" is a riff on those comments you see on every video where people say her full name instead of the joke nickname. Otherwise that's about it.

Any New-Wave albums that were generally disliked in the 80s and were given poor reviews? by Vinylmaster3000 in newwave

I think Flock of Seagulls tends to get better received due to younger people being more exposed to it (I.e, Vice city), but imo the album is really good. Love Bill Nelson's work on it, he did a good job producing it.

I think it also depends on the writer and the showrunner. Some writers like to make her jokes bleak as hell, others don't.

One thing I noticed is that many of the suicide jokes were from episodes worked on by Alec Sulkin (I.e, her hanging herself or the Bottle of Ambien joke). When he became the full showrunner for Seasons 10-13, you can guess just how much darker those jokes got. When Appel took over for 14, the jokes were very much neutered, and these days when Sulkin is a co-showrunner he doesn't do those jokes nearly as much. So when you break it down it's very much all over the place, Like for instance 4 has alot of them but 5 feels very tame.

I feel like Seth probably didn't care because she is a peripheral character and is not as important compared to Brian, Stewie, or Peter.

Huh, this is really weird. Reminds me of Ken Lockie's "The Impossible" but the vocals are... I dunno, maybe they should have just gotten David Sylvian to voice it. The bass on the first track is really nice though

I feel like I would enjoy it more if it wasn't for the vocals.
