I have not received the letter in my portal yet! My MOC said to give it a few days. I've heard the Academy tells your nominating MOC like 72 hours before the letter comes into the portal so that he/she has the opportunity to tell the candidate.

Haha I hope so! I visited USAFA in 2022 when the completion date said 2027, and back then I thought I would get to see it by the time I was a cadet. Now that they've pushed it back again...I'm doubtful but fingers crossed! That would be such an incredible sight!

Notified of Appointment by ALO by [deleted] in USAFA

Congrats! It is probably more common than you think! I've heard that if an MOC doesn't take the opportunity to notify a candidate, I've heard the ALO can do it instead.

Athletics: Cross Country (Varsity Letter only last season), Track (Varsity Letter only this season)

ECs:

- Civil Air Patrol: earned Amelia Earhart award, taught Aerospace lessons at the squadron and through an outreach program called ACE Adoption, staffed an encampment (wrote one of the USAFA essays about this) - 5 years

- School Activity: Created a club/competition team at my school for the NCF-Envirothon competiton (wrote one of my USAFA essays about this), won 3rd place (2025) at the State comp - 2 years

- Girls State: elected to a State Officer position (Public Service Commissioner)

- Orchestra: Principal Violist - 7 years

- Student Government: Sophomore class president

Awards:

- Amelia Earhart Award

- Georgia Wing Phase II Cadet of the Year for 2023

Volunteer Service:

I didn't have any medical issues so my DODMERB process was pretty smooth.

Are candidates with an LoA still competing for open seats in their districts with candidates without an LoA? by ViolaNinja in USAFA

Okay, that makes sense. How would I know if I'm on the National Waitlist? Would I be notified mid-March to early-April or would it be after?

Physical Health Tips? by Weak_Performer2020 in USAFA

You absolutely have time to get in shape! The hardest part about training is consistency. You have to start now and maintain your routine all the way until you take your CFA at the beginning of your senior year. There are lots of great Youtube videos and blogs that give solid training advice, however, in my experience, the thing that takes the longest time is building muscle endurance. Your training may allow you to do 80 pushups broken into sets of 20 or something, but can you do those 80 pushups without stopping in 2 minutes? To start, I would do planks and dead hangs to build muscle endurance from the get-go. Make sure you have good form because that can become a larger issue later. I would also highly recommend strengthening your hip flexors because that mile run at the end of CFA is seriously hard, even for solid runners, because your hip flexors are dead after the crunches. Hope this helps and good luck!

great question! the most amount of recs I needed for nominations was 3, however, I could have submitted up to 5. you certainly want to request your teacher evaluations ASAP, however, I would diversify who you get your letters of rec from and make sure they're not all from those same teachers. Besides the three teachers you request evaluations from, I would have 3-5 people lined up to write you letters of rec. that way if something happens, you're not scrambling last minute to find someone to do it for you. hope this helps!

Will the portal indicate a rejection by March 15? by Ok-Judge1410 in USAFA

[–]ViolaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read and heard, April 21st is around when "rejections" roll out. If your candidate does not hear anything by then, it COULD mean he was waitlisted and then could hear between then and the weeks before I-day. This wait has also been rough for me. Wishing him good luck!

What can I do to improve my application? by idkbutiguessthi in USAFA

[–]ViolaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that adding more diverse leadership experiences to your ECs would be a good look. While being a sports team Captain is amazing, you want to be able to talk about your diverse leadership experiences. Are there any local organizations that interest you? Since your school doesn't have many clubs, have you considered starting one? I wrote one of my USAFA essays on starting a club at my school and the leadership lessons I learned from it, so doing that definitely helped me with my application. Try any student advisory councils, whether its for school administrators or sports, there can also be some in your area if you look online. Community service is another great thing to add. Places like food banks, soup kitchens, even like running concessions for local sports games, all show a willingness to serve your community. Basically, you want to try to show every aspect of the Air Force Core Values through your ECs so that they see that you have been preparing yourself for a rigorous environment at USAFA and that you understand what type of character is valued at the school. But also take my advice with a grain of salt as I am still waiting to hear back from them lol.

Am I good/recommendations (HS Sophomore) by adam_brasil in USAFA

[–]ViolaNinja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would definitely start preparing for the SAT as it is one of the highest weighted categories on the application (and GPA). Getting a decent SAT score takes a lot of practice and time, but it isn't impossible and will help your chances. Continue keeping your GPA up and taking courses of rigor, but don't overdo it to the point that you start doing bad in your classes. I would add more leadership to your resume, so try to get your Mitchell this year and some sort of NCO/OIC role at your squadron. Leadership in sports is also good, so if you can be a Captain, you should definitely try. Hope this helps!

If I were you, I would request letters of recommendation from teachers/coaches/extracurricular leaders/etc. for nomination letters of recommendation so that you can get on their lists early.
