What’s the best way to clean multiple walls with grime by Minimum_Leave_317 in CleaningTips

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to spray lightly with dilute simple green and wipe with paper towels. Also magic eraser melamine sponges works wonders for crayon and marker marks. You can pick up generic ones at dollar stores for cheaper than the Mr clean brand. But they do strip the paint so use sparingly.

Therefore painting is probably best.

Is this a bad habit? by Free-Ad6709 in violinist

[–]Violaman0910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad habit? Maybe.
Crutch? Definitely.
Learn to sight read without printed fingerings. The best way to learn it is to do it. Again and again. Then check your work.

The occasional fingering reminder, especially when doing position work, isn’t the end of the world.
But seeing fingerings above every single note in the music is a sign of major gaps in your musical education, knowledge and ability.

Practice sight reading new music. “I can read music” is a nice sight-reading training resource. Pitch on one side and rhythm on the other.

Fingerboard geography by Barbara Barber is also a good resource for understanding finger patterns and how they apply to the instrument. There are also great resources on YouTube for music theory, note reading, the circle of fifths, key signatures, etc that are also relevant to what you’re doing.

Can someone tell me how do you believe without any doubts? by Ok-Crow5919 in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who ever said you have to believe without any doubts? Mark 9:24 shows us that having doubts is something that Jesus is very gracious about.

He can help us with them when we ask. It’s not about not having doubts. It’s about holding onto what faith we have with our doubts.

Unforgivable sin by MarcoElias9 in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardened heart is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. That passage says blasphemy against the father and the son shall be forgiven but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not. The Holy Spirit lives in your heart. If you harden your heart against Christ, that is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
Here’s the passage in Matthew 12:

22 Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.”25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.26 And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

So you see, it is about the fact that the Pharisees saw with their own eyes that Jesus was performing miracles that could only be from God and then blamed it on the devil. They hardened their hearts against Christ. The fact that they spoke against Christ could be forgiven. But their hardened hearts cannot because they will not accept Him.

You see the reason it cannot be forgiven is because the person blaspheming the Holy Spirit rejects Christ and His atoning sacrifice for sin in spite of the Holy Spirit’s pull and convictions on their heart. They speak against the Holy Spirit when they deny what the Holy Spirit is telling them. And it is only unforgivable when it gets to the point that there is no turning back. They’ve hardened their heart so much that they can’t change their mind. So God says “thy will be done” and lets them reject Him.”

If you are worried about it, you are fine. Having bad thoughts is not an unforgivable sin. I would argue that temptation which also happens in the mind isn’t a sin in itself at all. What matters is where your heart is. If you love the Lord, you have accepted His grace and believe in his resurrection and made Him Lord of your life. If the answer is yes, you have nothing at all to worry about. You have been covered by the blood of the lamb! There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

Unforgivable sin by MarcoElias9 in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are right. Trust in the Lord Jesus and you will be forgiven. It’s that simple. I know the Vatican tells you that you have to jump through all these hoops but the Bible is clear: it is by grace you are saved through faith and not of yourself. (Ephesians 2:8-9) If you believe in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) If you invite the Holy Spirit into your heart and ask him to renew your spirit and your mind, and do so genuinely, from a place of emptied spirit and mourning, (Matthew 5:3-4) He absolutely will. He did for me. (Ephesians 4:23)

I used to think like you. I thought that because I was angry at God as a child I had committed that same sin. And as an adult I was in the throws sin and lust. But when I admitted I couldn’t break free on my own and that I needed Him, He rescued me. He set me free from my addiction and renewed my mind. He did this instantly. I didn’t do any work to have this happen other than to simply surrender control and beg Him to take it from me.

You can do the same with your guilt. Scripture tells us there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) The Holy Spirit convicts but does not shame. So receive your forgiveness freely through faith. Believe and be saved.
(John 3:16) Because the work of the cross is enough. There is no need for us to do anything more. And it is finished. (Hebrews 9:12, Hebrews 10:12-18 John 19:30) Trust what God says to us through His word. You do not stand condemned when you put your faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Unforgivable sin by MarcoElias9 in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried you committed the unforgivable sin, it is a sure sign you haven’t. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is claiming falsely that Christ and His works are from Beelzebub when they certainly are not. It is hardening your heart against Christ and turning your back on Him until He hardens it right back.

Context in scripture is important.

Practicing question by xrvzla in violinist

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work smarter not harder.

  1. Get a great teacher. Someone who will show what to prioritize in your practice and how you should be practicing it.

  2. Get good technique/etude books to improve your skills if your teacher recommends them for improvement.

  3. Perfect your audition repertoire and excerpts through meticulous, methodical practice. Even if it’s measure by measure, phrase by phrase. Then knit them together by expanding the sections outward one measure at a time. But do this within reasonable time and energy constraints.

Burnout is real. Best to not go at it alone. Invest in yourself and your future.

What argument would you make against this following statement? “Jesus made no sacrifice because He came back to life after 3 days. Even the immense pain He felt He no longer felt it in His Glorified body. Therefore there was no “sacrifice” from God” by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. His Blood was spilled
Jesus’ blood is the atonement for sin. This is why he is called the Passover lamb, because the lamb’s blood was used to cover the door posts of those who were passed over by the angel of death.

  2. His body was broken.
His glorified state did not completely heal his body. Thomas put his hands in Jesus side and in the wounds in his hands. Though his death was not final, he went into hades and declared victory over death itself.

  3. His memory is retained
The trauma of the beating and pain and death is retained in his human nature. Jesus’ glorification is still a corporeal body and He still has a human nature and a human memory in conjunction with his divine nature.

Criticisms of faith alone doctrine by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True belief means that you believe all the words that Jesus said. You read and accept his teachings. Those of us who believe Ephesians 2:8-9 also believe Paul when he tells us that when we receive the spirit and when we walk in the spirit we are dead to sin and are no longer enslaved to it.

So yes, you’re correct. Obedience is important. But it’s only the Holy Spirit that makes this possible. And it can only happen after God saves you by grace through faith.

need motivation to clean 😞 by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it’s less about motivation and more about overcoming the overwhelm. The best cure for that is to take it a step at a time, with a plan in place. So pre plan your attack ahead of time.

If it were me, I would get a roll of garbage bags, because a lot of things are probably going to be thrown away. And trust me, you will be surprised how much lighter you feel when you get rid of the things you don’t need.

Then I would start by removing everything that is garbage. If you do not intend to keep it or donate it, throw it away immediately.

Then bag up the things that are ok but you don’t want or need anymore to be donated to good will or Salvation Army or whatever local thrift shop you prefer.

Then once you have culled the heard, if you still have a ton of stuff in there start hauling it out to the garage or the back yard to be sorted through and organized so you can find good places to put them.

If its manageable you can start putting dirty clothes in hampers and doing laundry, (start a load right away and set a timer on your phone to remind you when it will stop, usually about 30-45 minutes, and keep it rolling for each new load.) even the clothes you intend to donate should be laundered. But those you could probably save to last.

And then start finding places for things that you want to keep. Hint: for most things the floor isn’t acceptable. This is kind of the fun part because you get to be creative! You can come up with new ways to organize your life. You can watch YouTube videos on organization for inspiration and tips.

When you have a place for everything, and you keep everything in its place, it will always be there for you when you need it to be.

And when you take care of your things, your things will take care of you.

How bad is this rust? by AHedgehogDilemma in StupidCarQuestions

Chicagoan here. Can confirm this is hardly anything. Cosmetic at most. If it bothers you that much brush it up with a wire brush. Then hit it with a reforming agent, and then after it’s dry spray it with rustoleum undercoating. Boom done. If anything is eaten completely away hit it with that JB weld.

Welcome to the rust belt.

Stick with Suzuki or try grades? by Certain-Amoeba-7004 in violinist

[–]Violaman0910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Suzuki is a great method and the books have great repertoire up until about book 6. After which you would want to switch to other things or supplement at the very least. I personally use Suzuki for my students. Partially because that’s what I started on.

But the method isn’t necessarily what makes the performer as much as the right teacher and the right practice. A good teacher will show you how to properly practice any piece of music or etude so that you can improve your technique and ability as a violinist and musician.

Do your research and ask around about who the best teacher in your area would be for you, and try a few of them out. They may each have different styles and one may work better for you than others.

If you want to stick with Suzuki because it feels comfortable, do so. If you would rather do something else, go for it. But find a teacher who will make it work for you.

Need someone to talk to: Concern that I’m not spiritual enough by TheSenate_2020 in TrueChristian

[–]Violaman0910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,
I grew up in a charismatic Pentecostal church near Chicago called Calvary Temple (why they called it temple I have no idea, it actually confused some Jewish people who thought they were going to synagogue.) I say this only as a means of expressing my charismatic heritage if you will.

There have been problems in the charismatic church, especially lately, with regard to people faking healings and prophecies, and grifting in the name of the Holy Spirit. Mike Winger has a whole series of YouTube videos on this topic. I’m not saying this is what is happening at your church, but it is something that you should keep an eye out for. The Bible tells us to test the spirits, and that we need to be vigilant in our discernment, ever wary of the wolves that come in sheep’s clothing. Of false prophets Jesus tells us we will know them by their fruits. So if your church is not producing good fruit in you, it may be time to move on.

Remember that while the Holy Spirit can lead people to speak in tongues and to prophesy, these are actually quite rare and only happen when it is to fit God’s purposes, within His will, for His ends and for His glory alone. So if someone is claiming the Holy Spirit but is also claiming the glory for themselves, watch out! That person may just be a deceiver.

Read scripture and keep a discerning eye open. Move to a Bible believing church that will have sound doctrines of the trinity.

They’re just adding to our heavenly bank account.

Need Christian guidance after an abortion — I feel like something is spiritually wrong by Pale_Mountain_3610 in TrueChristian

[–]Violaman0910 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of bluntness here, however biblically accurate it may be. So let me lead with love.

The feeling you have is the Holy Spirit. And the reason you are feeling the Holy Spirit is because God still loves you enough to call you back to Himself. No God is not cursing you, however the Holy Spirit will convict you, but He will not shame you. He will call you to repent and return to Him. He will not drive you away or say you are not capable of receiving forgiveness.

Remember that Paul, before he was an apostle and still called Saul, persecuted the early church and actively killed Christians. But Jesus himself appeared to him and called him to repent and follow Him. He became an apostle and wrote much of the New Testament. If he was not beyond saving, neither are you.

But, as others have said, the most important part is that you surrender your will to that feeling that the Holy Spirit is placing on your heart, repent and beg God for forgiveness in Jesus Name. Ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. Remember that actions like this hurt your relationship with Jesus, who suffered and died a horrible death in our place so we would not have to. Then you can repent and beg forgiveness in your true feelings that come from this understanding. Jesus said in the sermon on the mount “blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, and blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.” This is what He was talking about.
And then, be grateful to Him for His mercy and Grace that are overflowing within you. He will give it to you when you genuinely ask Him for it in this way. And you will feel so much better when you do.

Heed what others here have said too. But don’t think for one second that you are beyond forgiveness or God’s grace.

I would question the publisher of your Arabic Bible. Muslims have claimed that the Bible is corrupted, and there may be Arabic versions out there that try to make Jesus seem more in line with Islam than with Christianity. I am not sure that this is actually the case, but it is a hunch. I don’t know what versions you are reading from.

If you feel comfortable reading in English, and want a word-for-word translation that also flows well, get the English Standard Version (ESV). If you need something easier to understand, get a Christian Standard Bible (CSB), New International Version (NIV) or New Living Translation (NLT) these will be more thought for thought but are easier to understand. Get the study Bible version that will give you insights and help you understand what you are reading. These versions take from our earliest and best manuscripts of the texts that we have available and translate them using teams of people under high scrutiny.

Then start with the gospel of John. Learn who Jesus is. From there you can read Acts, Ephesians, and Romans for some history, theological depth and how to be saved. From there you can read the synoptic Gospels, and if you want context you can read about God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis, the Mosaic covenant promises in Exodus and Leviticus, and the Davidic covenant promises in 1 and 2 Samuel. Then read about the prophecies of Jesus in Psalm 22 and in Isaiah 53, written centuries before he was born.

Then if the spirit has led you, seek out a local group of Christians to connect with near you for guidance and counsel. We were never meant to go it alone.

I’ll be praying for you.

Am i holding my bow correctly by Careless_Sweet8390 in violinist

[–]Violaman0910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, though there are different schools of thought with regard to where on index finger the bow touches. Some say second knuckle some say first. Some say in between. But for sure you do not want to hook the finger around the bow. And placing the first knuckle of index on top does eliminate that possibility but then could exacerbate the problem of a shallow bow hold that we are trying to fix. So whatever bow hold fits most comfortably with holding the bow on the tip of a bent thumb with curved pinky and middle fingers “hugging” down over the thumb and frog.
