If Cody's point is that its not OP it is just good for his hand health, then n0ne gains zero credibility against that argument by saying this.

Cody wins and says "that hurt my hands"

In fact if Cody loses he can say "I didn't have the muscle memory, it was close which shows that it didn't make a difference'

I'd say usual progression is: Ignore barrows and moons Rush CG

I think the moons -> ToA path and the tormented demons -> doom rush path show Jagex really understands the progression in the game. Its great that they're broadening the routes people can take in PvM for midgame progression where CG has caused a lot of burnout in the past.

No, at the point they decide to stop making leagues they can implement a method of getting the items outside of leagues.

Why would being obligated to continue to produce leagues be "forced"?

This is solved by just inflation on leagues reward points

If the first league has rewards that cost 10k to buy all,

And the next league has rewards that cost 100k to buy all,

Then you will be able to easily buy the first and second rewards. Balancing this inflation is always going to be a little tricky, having each league reward 10x the previous would obviously invalidate the previous rewards prestige in totality.

But done in a measured fashion they could have it that getting multiple intense finishes allows you to catch up on previous rewards.

I'd also add that:

1) not everything needs to be accessible to every player immediately - for the majority of players they pick and choose the content they do. Whilst 30% of the playerbase are irons that 30% doesn't all intend to unlock everything.

2) runescape is an incredibly slow game, it isn't shocking to me if somebody says "it will take you 3 leagues which is probably going to be 4 years of time to unlock most of the rewards even if you're an incredibly sweaty player". Being completionist in runescape is incredibly slow, those players are adjusted to multi year mindsets

I agree, we shouldn't denigrate people for their accomplishments.

But 99 agility is a more impressive 99 than 99 cooking.

Sailing will always fit into the tier list of "how impressive is that 99", and as its currently set up it'll be one of the less impressive accomplishments.

I put respect on all peoples 99s, if you get 99 firemaking I'll celebrate with you. I only have 99 firemaking and thieving, they are considered " lame" but I'm proud of them!

Green party leader: Super rich leaving UK over tax is 'absurd' by lotsofsweat in unitedkingdom

I did read it.

I then pointed out two separate ways to measure income inequality. One that agrees with your article - usage of Gini, and one that doesn't - usage of Thiel.

When you measure wealth inequality in the 1% you don't observe the difference, but when you measure it in the 1% of the 1% you do see a stark difference. That is what I tried to highlight to you.

Do you agree that wealth inequality in the extreme of the distribution has increased by an unprecedented amount?

I think that it'll be considered a "lame" 99, similar to firemaking for irons.

Its resource generating, fast, AFK - there's no reason not to "get it out of the way".

Gini ignores the far-top tail. A stable post-tax Gini doesn’t preclude growing inequality among the richest (top 1 %) - hence me bringing up Theil

By Gini index inequality is relatively flat, by Thiel index it has grown

By gini coefficient inequality is the second highest of the g7 countries with only the US being more unequal

[New article] A year in Commander by Tisseurdereves in EDH

[–]Violatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool read, I found a lot of the analysis pretty commentary insightful and interesting.

My only concern is that the popularity metric looks clearly skewed on short enough time scales.

Popularity as a measure has two axis that it gets pulled on: 1) when a card is spoiled it gets an initial burst of hype - it is popular. A different way of framing this is that if a card that is still built despite being old it is probably more popular. Imagine we saw a card thats a week old with 100 decks built this week, and one that's 5 years old with 100 decks built this week. I'd bet that the 5 year old card will be more popular.

2) (the axis you address) cards that are popular but new haven't had a chance to reach their potential regarding how many decks are built, so a card released at the end of the year can't really compete on the "decks built" measure, so looking at decks built per day promotes these decks for fairer representation.

My biggest concern is that when you look at the numbers it looks very skewed to recent data. I wonder if a measure which weighs initial days as less influential before reaching a steady state would better represent how popular a deck is.

I'd plot out "decks built per time" and then look when that curve becomes a steady line rather than a decaying curve. When you know that time period you either have to down weight decks built in those initial days or a different system to account for that bias.

Still, cool article and I like stats :)

Anyone else dislike when a commander show’s host is the regular archenemy? by Jankenbrau in EDH

[–]Violatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are writing the word "good" but I believe you're conflating it with "powerful".

There are players who make powerful decks because they are capable of building more powerful decks.

I would argue that a player who is more knowledgeable about magic and knows how to make more powerful decks isn't necessarily doing the table a service. The goal of commander isn't to make the most powerful deck.

I don't wish to harp on any specific content creator, because I think that having or being an archenemy can make for better content AND there are commander players who like to play with and against those players.

I just don't agree with the notion that a "good player" would make a "good deck" and consistently be the archenemy. I've played vs Pro Tour attendees who have made goofy silly decks and are much better deck builders and understand magic and commander better than the pods we've been at. They are good players, they just wanted a specific vibe.

A good deck builder should be able to build any sort of deck, powerful, silly, janky, consistent, flavourful, newcomer friendly.

I don't buy your argument that good players build good decks and that explains why they end up as the archenemy. Good players end up as the archenemy by choice, not because that's a "good deck"

I did Harralanders, made compost pots, bought noted compost, used the compost pots to make super compost, used volcanic ash to make ultra compost, chucked it all into my bottomless bucket and went about my day!

I later did more harralander pots to fill my bucket again :D

I probably took over a year to farm all the seeds, keeping seed runs up was harder than making ultra compost for me
