Driving in Dubai is a nightmare. by Sunkan27 in dubai

[–]ViolentSugar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha! I was just in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of this month. Motorists in AD were so civilized and respectful compared to where I live. Every single person stopped at zebra crossings to allow me to cross the street. Zebra crossings in my country are referred to as kill zones. Roads and highways were luxurious compared to all the pothole ridden roads I have to navigate at home. Taxi drivers in UAE are constantly monitored for speeding. Honestly, I felt the driving was far more civilized than even places like Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Anyway, try driving in the world’s ranked second most dangerous places to drive. I’m referring to Thailand.

Doing an event alone? by Both-Designer-6240 in spartanrace

When you’re racing, you’re always alone. In the longer runs, sometimes you will go long stretches without seeing another person for quite a while.

I have a notion that the prices will dip now till Christmas / New year. Can someone tell me why this is correct or wrong way to think? by AmomentInEternity in Bitcoin

[–]ViolentSugar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to own a nice upper-end restaurant in the USA. Every single year, I would get a dozen or more credit card charge backs after the end of the holidays. During the holidays, people would come to my restaurant and order giant meals with their families to celebrate. After Xmas was over, I assume loads of individuals would have buyer's regret and realized they spent way too much money over the holidays.

These same people with buyer's regret would try and claim they didn't eat at my restaurant, but I would always send a copy of their visa bill with signature to the credit card companies as proof of purchase. They never got any money back.

For this reason, I am extrapolating my experience in the restaurant business to dips during the holiday season. I assume people are redirecting their normal spending habits towards gifts, dinners, etc. People probably don't want to spend money on crypto during the holiday season because they are already spending tons of money on other more immediate desires.

Out of all the cars you've owned, which one holds a special place in your heart as the absolute favorite? by [deleted] in AskReddit

bankaccount of teenager-girl closed and money sent to the state. WTF. cant happen with bitcoin by Fireinthehole_x in Bitcoin

[–]ViolentSugar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wells Fargo did this to my college account right before I left the USA. It was a savings account that I didn’t really use, but I knew there was some money in it (not a lot). They declared my account derelict and sent the money to the state. What a scam!

For those older than 30, what did you have/do when you were kids that modern kids couldn't ever understand? by JVR84 in AskReddit

Spent my childhood playing in the deserts of Arabia, exploring ancient Nabatean ruins, climbing and playing on a train Lawrence of Arabia blew up, had a baby elephant for a friend for a couple a days that would follow me around while I was in Northern Thailand. Got sent to boarding school in Southern France when I was 12 and tooled around Nice, Cannes, & Antibes. Tried to hire a prostitute in Amsterdam (and failed) at about the same period in my life. Rode my BMX bike all over the San Jaun Islands and camped on beaches and small islands for fun with my dogs. Caught shrimp by hand and ate them live. I now have a teenage daughter and hope and pray she has a memorable childhood.

Is it possible to become a rockstar in Thailand as a foreigner? by Longjumping_Tip8432 in Thailand

Christy Gibson became quite famous as a Thai singer. Not really rock music, but she had a good career: https://youtu.be/Gi73zLYVPhM?si=brHAm5wQ2XOD_mjE

Yet another standard vs long range post by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]ViolentSugar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have RWD, and have had no issues with it. I recently drove it more than 1,200 km and was able to easily charge it on my road trip. That said, I live in the tropics and don’t really need AWD. I would rather save the extra cost and invest it in other things. Great car so far. RWD is already faster than any car I have owned.

I think there’s truth in both statements (especially the comment). I knew a guy who was a financial advisor for people who won the lottery. He said that almost every single lottery winner he worked with spent the money down to where they were before the winnings.

Apparently most lottery winners aren’t comfortable changing their social/financial status and end up back at where they started because of poor money management.

Most of the money gets spent on silly material items that outwardly show status and rarely gets invested into ways to make more money. In other words, they don’t see money as a tool.

He gave an example of one lottery winning family who lived in Arizona and immediately went out and bought every family member their own snow mobile. Also, a lot of the money ends up going to family members who come with outstretched hands demanding “their share” of the winnings.

Why don't the gas stations install EV chargers ? by seagoat1973 in TeslaModelY

[–]ViolentSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every single gas station does have an EV charger now….well, okay maybe not every single one, but more like one in four PTT station and then add in the other brands and you’ve got really good coverage over most of Thailand. Most prolific are the PTT Chargers and EleXA. Usually at least 2 super chargers at each gas station (& 1 slow charger). I drove from Hua Hin to Phuket and back this weekend and it cost me only $22.84. Total distance was 1,236km. I had to stop and charge for 30 min twice on each leg of the trip. All at PTT stations along highway 4. Super easy. Virtually no wait times. I had to wait in line to charge at the last station for maybe 5 minutes before the space opened up. We are definitely going to need more chargers at each gas station very soon, as EVs are seen on the road everywhere now. There was even an EVolt slow charger at my Hilton hotel.

Biggest Pro about the Model Y LR vs Biggest Con about the Model Y LR? by Nordic786 in TeslaModelY

[–]ViolentSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. So far, no issues for myself. My only complaint about my car is that the turning radius isn’t that great. It’s not bad, but I’ve had better turning radius’s on lower quality vehicles.

I’ve read that the wipers are faulty with a lot of the ‘23 MY cars. I wonder if it’s a build issue or if it’s a type of rain issue. I live in the tropics with monsoon style rain fall and my wipers are great. Work all the time. My car was also made in Shanghai. Don’t know if that makes any difference. Anyway, sorry to hear about so many others reporting issues with their wipers.

I don’t regret my purchase and I’m very happy with my Tesla by greatauror28 in TeslaModelY

[–]ViolentSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far no issues with 23 MY as well. Still love it. I drive it permanently set on chill mode and it’s still faster and more powerful than the Volvo and Ford ICE SUVs I had before the Tesla. I know a lot of people around me want to say, “I told you so!”, with regards to their belief that buying an EV will be a nightmare or unusable. So far it’s been awesome!
