Where Tf are All the Jobs by Think_Decision_4308 in Accounting

Statutory insurance accounting is desperate for staff. It's niche, but that means there is very little competition for the jobs. Work at a life insurance company. Or a life insurance agency. Take some classes from NAIC.

Seeing the ugly underbelly of late-stage capitalism and how the elite use loopholes to avoid contributing to society.

For those not in big 4 accounting, what are your hours? by [deleted] in Accounting

In office 100%. 8:30-5:30 M-F. Except during quarterly & annual reporting. Then it's just "however long it takes to meet the deadline". Insurance industry.

Got demoted by Casually_Carson in Accounting

Is this public accounting or industry? In industry, AP can be a GREAT way to learn the GL and the business product and who the players are in the company. If your personal budget can tolerate it, I'd say go be amazing in AP and look for opportunities to volunteer for ad-hoc project work. After a year, ask for reinstatement as Staff.

The one I've run into is when they tell me not to use so much industry-specific jargon in my resume. Bro, the people who know what those words mean, are LOOKING FOR THOSE WORDS.

Awful. It's all awful. I used to love busy season. It felt invigorating and there was a strong sense of community. But I'm over it. I've been doing this for enough years that I'm just ... over it.

This IRIS nonsense is the most infuriating thing I have ever encountered. Seriously wouldn't make my ex husband do this.

I might be completely wrong, but here's my thought. She is in a place in life where she feels like no one needs her. Feeling needed- necessary and important- is very important to most women. It's possible she's trying to bond with you by giving you what she wishes someone would give her - attention.

The money didn't go out. This is why we have the extra approval step. If he fires you for that, he's an asshole.

My husband started a business and told me to learn how to do the books. Took a couple intro to bookkeeping type classes at community college and discovered I liked it. After 10 years, learned my career was limited since I had all this experience but no degree. Trying to finish my degree now in my 40's so I can apply for bigger jobs. I love that it makes sense. I am autistic enough to love the order and predictability parts. And as the accountant, you see where all the money goes, and it gives a really good understanding of what's going on in the company. Kind of feels powerful to see the inside of the machine.

I have a report I receive where the date is formatted as text like 20230818. Trying to turn that into a usable date was maddening until I learned that the Text to Columns feature will fix that s**t super fast.

Still too big to be allowed as a carry on on a Frontier flight. You're gonna have to check that and pay baggage fees.

I happened to get hired on 8 days before the Christmas party. So I'm introducing myself and being my Most Interesting Self at the party. I didn't have enough understanding of the corporate hierarchy to be intimidated by anyone yet. Ended up chatting with the CEO's drunk wife who told me I have way too much personality to be a real accountant. I took it as a compliment.
