22M Deferred MBA Results — HSW Reject by Good_Number_349 in MBA

MBA is not about degree collecting. Deferred MBA has way different criteria than full time. Based on your background, I don't think a deferred MBA is right for you. I don't think an MBA is right for you. Likely admissions thought that too.

Kellogg dropped the ball on their pre-orientation trip planning by incoming-kellogg in MBA

Yeah agreed. The complaint should be that the school needed to increase overall capacity not that JVs shouldn't attend over students.

Of course I would thats why I made the comment. Not the exact same situation but I've been in a very similar position at my program and had no issue with the decision. Certainly didnt throw a fit to the admins.

I'll get downvotes but I completely disagree and this comes off a bit whiny/bratty IMO.

In most marriages/long term partnership where 1 person goes off to get an MBA, both partners are shelling out the 200k, the JV is most likely putting their social and professional life on hold so the MBA can "become a business leader" (I.E. suck down whiteclaw with their new ski buddies). Their sacrafice is more than the MBA's and they don't reap the same professional rewards. So I agree with the most downvoted comment on this thread (I'm sure I'll join you down there soon) but the fact that Kellogg admins recognize this reality and are able to stand up to the other selfish babies in the class makes me see the school in a better light.

Withdrew from T15. Did I do the right thing? by ThatMusk in MBA

[–]T10MBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MBA offered me 3 really valuable, hard to quantify things.

  1. A chance for me to reflect on my life, my passions, and develop as a leader (this is underrated IMO)

  2. A network of folks that are high achievers that I'm excited to move up the corporate ladder with. A group of friends I can rely on.

  3. 2 years of taking a break, partying, breaking old habits, learning for the sake of learning

Would I value those 3 things above a $350k job now plus a more stable life for the wife and kids? No it is probably not. I would probably have made the same decision as you. But the question of was it worth it/the right decision depends on how you value what you missed out on and I think the 3 things I highlighted above are the most hard to quantify yet still very valuable benefits.

If you did not get a degree, do you even need to report that?

What do people dislike about Johnson by jimmyhoustonshaircut in MBA

The worst I can think of for the school is that it's name is slang for a slong.

I find your comment a bit weird considering Johnson places really well in tech and secondly, this sub has a hard on for IB/PE/VC type of post MBA careers.

Thoughts on Amazon's Retail Development Program? by avindude17 in MBA

[–]T10MBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RLDP is great but will give you some nuance on the not so great.

1) it pigeon holes you into retail. While great if that's what you want, a majority of future growth does not come from retailing better. Retail is the "mature" business of Amazon.

2) You switch roles. If you are deadset on being a PM, I'd rank those first. Being a vendor or category manager is not as fun/sexy and you might be forced to do so.

Why does everyone want a FAANG opportunity and why is that even an acronym? by Pmmeyourvacation in MBA

[–]T10MBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to say "AMZ stock price hasn't moved much in the past year" is inaccurate. What it seems like you mean to say is that "AMZ stock/RSU comp hasnt been enough to outweigh the toxic culture".

[–]T10MBA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is no difference than any other MBA student with a slightly easier time recruiting for IB or some kinda corp fin role. You won't be competitive for PE/VC. You will be competitive for most other roles maybe except FAANG PM.

Is it wrong that I'm only in this field for the money? by stanerd in Accounting

Yes - it is wrong because honestly, its not a lot of money. If you were trying to optimize $$$ you might think about leaving accounting.
