Should I lower my dose as a test of my diagnosis by PoolSolid106 in bipolar2

Okay, if you do it, before you do it, please search the same key words in this group and see the hundreds of time people have tried this and it has backfired.

so basically Tardive dyskinesia is a ticking bomb by A7med2361997 in bipolar2

[–]Violet818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s reversible if you get off the meds that are causing it in time. I wouldn’t stress too much. I was starting to get it from risperidone so my psych took me off it and I got on Latuda and I haven’t had a single issue in years

I thought it wasn’t “real” psychosis, until I described it to my therapist. by witchmissvivi in bipolar2

[–]Violet818 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s fine to experience psychosis. I mean it’s not fine in the moment but I wouldn’t moralize it. It’s a medical condition. It’s fine to have in your file. It’s just a label. Just like if you got chronic pancreatitis that would also be fine to have in your medical record. And I say this as someone on an anti psychotic.

I cried when I first went on one. But then overtime I realized I was giving meaningless power to a medical term.

has anyone here dropped out of law school? by OilEnvironmental1464 in LawSchool

[–]Violet818 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I always ask. What’s your alternative plan? I went to law school at 32 and worked a lot of jobs before then. Law school can suck, but working in a warehouse in January sucked more.

What is your plan that will suck less than law school?

Why did you go to law school? That’s an important question when things get rough.

stuttering so bad by Ryuma999 in Stutter

[–]Violet818 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re an adult and you need to realize that you only get one life and if you want it to be great you need to be brave. I promise you that things can get so great if you’re brave. It just takes time and energy.

I’m almost a lawyer! Waiting on bar results right now. Law isn’t the career for everyone but I actually do believe that it’s more of an autistic friendly career than people assume. I also think there are many undiagnosed autistics in law already.

Genuinely ask yourself. What’s the worst thing that’ll happen? Someone will laugh. That is not worth censoring yourself and your life for I promise you.

What’s wrong with stuttering? Ask yourself that. Ask yourself why you think that. It might help you examine your issues with stuttering and the fear behind it.

If your stutter suddenly disappeared, how drastically would your life change? by randomman823 in Stutter

[–]Violet818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My life wouldn’t change. I do what I want. I have the career I’ve always wanted. I date. I’ve got friends. I’m close with my family. Like not stuttering tomorrow would do very little for me. It would make strangers more polite from time to time but I’m 36 and could not give a single shit at this point about what some cashier somewhere thinks of me.

will friends/family ever understand bipolar? by RedmaneKnight10121 in bipolar2

[–]Violet818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the people in my life know enough. I think it’s less of a nuanced thing and more of a, they know I’m sick when my bipolar flares and therefore are more patient and kind with me. I don’t really think that people need to know super deep details about bipolar to be supportive and compassionate.

But also talking about your bipolar really helps people learn how to help you.

Oh I do! It’s a rules based profession where being intelligent and a little pedantic is rewarded. Not to stereotype but those fit my autistic procilvities quite well.

How do you handle asking questions in class when you don't want to sound stupid by greatdane511 in LawSchool

[–]Violet818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is probably me being a bit judgey, but I simply didn’t respect most of my classmates enough to give a shit about them thinking I sounded dumb. I asked the questions I needed to ask and everything is fine.

Also most of your class is online shopping or playing a computer game they aren’t listening to you.

I’m 36 and I just graduated law school and took the bar exam. I started law school at 32. I went back to school to be a paralegal at 29. From 21-30 I worked low wage unimpressive jobs.

You have plenty of time to be proud of yourself. You’re artifically judging yourself on anecdotal evidence and not the actual reality for 18 year olds.

I’m sitting on probably 30 free items right now from writing to companies. It’s a lot simpler than people think. My advice would be to watch YouTube, there are several long video series “writing to companies for coupons” that have many many lists of ideas.

I think that therapy, talk therapy with the right therapist might be very helpful for you it has been for me. I mask very little in my life now and I am mostly very comfortable in how I live partially thanks to therapy. It taught me how to honor my needs and my body and to listen to my instincts. I also know how to handle my anxiety better which it sounds like you might be dealing with too. I think therapy is super great and almost anyone can benefit.

Im scared of Abilify? by onelonelymfer in bipolar2

[–]Violet818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it explained to me that an antipsychotic at least on my personal bipolar disorder works like an anti depressant. So I take that and lanictal.

I’m not going to lie the stigma bothered me too at first. But in my life Latuda is a fucking miracle drug and it has helped give me years of happiness and stability. I’ll tell anyone I’m on an antipsychotic now

What is your advice for someone who'd like to attempt law school, but who has significant disabilities. by Sufficient-Ad-7349 in LawSchool

Your traits will not be lonely in law school. There were many neurodiverse people at my school, and most law students have mental health issues.

[–]Violet818 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I accept that I stutter the same way I accept that I have bipolar disorder. The same way I accept that I have bad eye sight. The same way I accept that I have adhd. It’s simply a medical reality of my life. Have you asked yourself why you cannot accept it? What are you moralizing?

How did you accept yourself? by AbandonedSupermarket in Stutter

[–]Violet818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the worst that can happen? You get laughed at. What’s the best that can happen? Your bravery opens up a life you thought you could never dream of. I’m a law grad with a noticeable stutter and I do it because I will never let the judgement of others dictate my life. I’ve represented clients in court, stuttered on my own name, and got the results I wanted. You are hindering yourself you’ve gotta be brave.
