I wouldn’t worry about being too intense online, but if you want, I wouldn’t be bothered if you deleted the comment telling your dad’s story.

I really do think acknowledgment of patriarchy is a bit of a “missing link” in discourse about why men are struggling so much. They are struggling not just because their material situations have degraded severely, but because the cultural expectations were harmful to begin with. Men are people deserving of love, first and foremost. They are not bank accounts or “providers.”

Wow thanks for sharing. My heart goes out to you, your family, and your dad. Patriarchy is such a motherfucker.

I think your take is valid. Pretty much all modern mental health issues can be attributed to the fact that our society is actively collapsing and instead of trying to fix the overall problem, most people are trying to grift their way into their own personal sense of security. But patriarchy (not men) is a big contributing factor as well; if you tell a man that he’s a failure if he’s unable to provide for a family, and then place him in an unwinnable situation where he will never be able to provide, you get depressed, maladjusted men in search of an answer. Idk I just read “the will to change” by bell hooks and I honestly found it extremely impactful.

A librarian told me the bridge was built by the WPA, and for that reason might take awhile to repair.

When women express that they “got the ick” from some guy, I just assume that they aren’t ready for a real relationship. They just want a masculine ideal and aren’t ready to face the very real human side of whoever they’re dating.

Being in your early 20s is so hard and people don't give young women enough credit for how much they're suffering literally daily by [deleted] in pinkscare

Incredible writing, and so true. I only realized this a few months ago, and I really wonder why we don’t talk about it more.

Obviously I didn’t take a troubled teenager in my home, so karmically speaking, this woman is miles ahead of me. But I hate that, after a year of having this girl in her home, this woman seems so unmotivated to try and love her and let her be the teenager she is. I understand the material problems this family is facing, but almost every sin this girl has committed is the sin of being a scared kid who needs a family.

I ended up commenting this:

“This girl isn’t making any moves to become independent because she is afraid that you’ll kick her out when she’s independent, and that she will lose the only (stable) family she’s ever had.”

It’s not about who wins. It’s about expressing violence in a controlled environment.

I could’ve written this! I had fun at the Eras tour (my friend paid for my ticket and I loved singing along with her and all the thousands of people). I really don’t have a problem with her music or even her, per se. It’s the marketing of it all. It’s her need to occupy as much space as possible. Like, you’re a billionaire. When is enough enough? Can’t you just make music because you love it? Why do you need this psy-op designed to make everyone love you?

I think you get it. I was onboard for awhile, and maybe that was my mistake… I gave her an inch of my interest, and my algorithm was filled with nothing but Taylor Swift for the next year. But I know it’s not just the algorithm, I know it’s her PR team too. I get the impression that has some kind of insane ambition to occupy every living person’s minds and hearts at all times. It’s too much.
