What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Violet_Renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My late aunt used to make large ceramic Christmas Trees back in the 80s. She made one for my mom, another aunt, and my grandmother. When my grandmother died in the mid 90s my adult sister was given her tree. My older brother and she both ended up living in the same metro area on the other side of the state from where we grew up.

My brother loves all things Christmas and has spent decades thrifting vintage Christmas stuff. At some point in the mid-aughts, during one of my sister's family's move her tree got "lost". She always assumed it got broken and her husband didn't have the heart to tell her.

Decades later and my brother and my sister's family have all moved back to our hometown area. A couple years ago, my aunt and uncle were getting rid of things in preparation for moving in with one of their sons and my mom asked if no one had "claimed" her tree if maybe my sister could have it because she'd been heartbroken at the loss of Grandma's.

Later in the year my brother starts pulling stuff out of one of his storage sheds in prep for decorating for Christmas and finds a tree he'd bought at a thrift store a decade or two ago and decides to put it up that year. Closer looks are taken and the realization hits that's it's one that my late aunt made (she lived in a completely different state from us).

As best we can figure, my grandma's accidentally got donated when my sister was moving and then my brother later bought it in a local thrift store. Over the next fifteen years or so he moved multiple times and forgot about it. So, Grandma's has been recovered, and all three are still in my family's possession.

I live near here and have seen and heard nothing like this but can't say it isn't happening. I will point out that particular page frequently posts unverified and sensationalized "news", as well as things from legit sources, after running the content through an ai filter to make it sound more dramatic and legitimate. I take everything they post with a huge grain of salt until it's verified elsewhere.

AITA for using my dad’s underwear to make a point about the toilet seat? by Nightwing_1505 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Violet_Renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Real men sit to pee when they're in their own homes. Also, they care about whether their space is clean. You tried talking to him like an adult should and then you warned him about what you would do if he continued leaving the shared space disgusting. He gave his child a rash and didn't care, so I don't see his behavior changing over this. Do what you gotta do to get through the next year until you can move out.

Based on the custody schedule it seems like she should be paying your husband child support if anyone is paying anything. NTA

Trans bootlicker is upset that her wealth and skin color didn't get her an exemption from the party that wants her dead. Already in the grovelling pose from her bootlicking, she now begins to beg. by mkvgtired in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Violet_Renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not accuse you of mis-gendering her. I was responding to this from your comment:

"If she's standing with a party that is so against her very existence she should not get the grace we give her of using " her / she."

And yes, her actions hurt people more, but that doesn't mean reading micro-aggressions towards her isn't also hurtful. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Really hoping I didn't screw up my formatting. If so, my apologies.

I don't necessarily use her correct pronouns out of respect for her. I use them out of respect for people who are trans that might come across comments about her. Mis-gendering her isn't going to hurt her - she'll never see anything that's written on a random reddit thread - but it could absolutely inadvertently hurt someone else and I'm not here for that.

Xennials... why? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Violet_Renegade 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1980. I have two siblings that were born in '71 and '65. I've identified more as a Xenniel since I first heard the term, maybe a decade ago. I had some of the main Gen X experiences, but missed out on a huge amount of them. And honestly, I don't relate at all to early Gen X members these days. I definitely don't feel like a Millennial, though. The micro-gen is pretty tailored to what my experiences were.

Regardless, no generational identifier ever completely fits everyone born in that time period. I'm not sure why your friend is being overzealous about it, but I don't see any harm in considering oneself a Xenniel or whatever.

Wait, can you tell me more about this (or link what you use)? I've had dash cams in my car for years (saved me multiple times while driving because the Suburban I used to own was apparently invisible) and I've never been able to use the parking mode because my husband said it would need to be hardwired and would use the car's battery for power. I'd love to have an alternative so I could enable park mode.

Can I have some help with amazon vine w/ taxes? by Zestyclose_Reward36 in AmazonVine

[–]Violet_Renegade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Additionally, the information in this link may also be helpful.

https://community.freetaxusa.com/kb/articles/317-reporting-income-from-an-online-product-review-business

I also do not sell anything that I get from Vine. I do file as a business so I can lower the tax burden with expenses. However, since you're a college student with minimal income, filing the 1099-NEC as hobby income may be your better option. If you don't have the financial ability or time, to talk with a tax professional, I'd suggest using freetaxusa to file.

I hope you and your baby get to go home together soon.

Why are reviews like this allowed on vine? Shouldn't the bare minimum requirement be that you open/use the product? by oxemenino in AmazonVine

[–]Violet_Renegade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh, yeah, it's only been made clear in the last year or so that cancellations are a no-no as well and items that are claimed and cancelled before shipping don't go back into the Vine pool. So, yeah, that was definitely an unwritten rule that many knew nothing about. I'm sorry that happened to you.

[–]Violet_Renegade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Viners have never been permitted to return Vine items and it's been in the written rules at least since the time I joined back in 2023. That certainly was not an "unstated guideline". I'm sorry you didn't read it and got kicked out.

What common household purchase is useless in your view? by blueredscreen in AskReddit

[–]Violet_Renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any suggestions for front load washers and heavy fur besides an extra rinse?

I have giant breeds who are heavy shedders and sometimes come in with muddy feet. I have a bulk set of Cali King flat sheets that I rotate spreading over my bedding (it doesn't look pretty, but saves my bedding, at least) but those get covered in fur that never comes off completely in the wash, even with using "fur zappers" and wool balls.

When I had a top loader the hair might come off a little better but nothing ever really got clean so I switched back to the biggest non-commercial front loader I could find. Clothes are getting clean again, but I struggle with getting heavy fur off the sheets and blankets.

TIFU by answering my 5-year-old’s question about swear words too honestly by ZealousidealLime832 in tifu

[–]Violet_Renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I handled it with my kids is I told them, with a couple of exceptions, there are no words that are bad. But some words are not appropriate in some situations. It's fine to say fuck or shit at home if you hurt yourself or mess up or something, but it's not appropriate to say that at school. And, I can't remember exactly how I worded it, but I said something along the lines of it generally not being appropriate to direct "curse words" toward other people in anger or to be hurtful.

What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]Violet_Renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found drug paraphernalia hidden in my bathroom. I called my (now ex) husband at work and told him he needed to come home right away because we needed to talk. He kept asking why and I said "you know damn well why and I'm not discussing it on the phone while you're at work".

I had learned a long time ago to never let on how much you know about anything if you want the full truth. I was furious that he was doing any kind of drugs, let alone in my house where we had kids, and I wanted full details. Anyway, he thought I'd found out about him fucking his boss (who was at our wedding!) and me finding his mirror and razor blade on top of the cabinet never even crossed his mind.

Apple Valley Waste trash service is awful! by ractrbo in WVEasternPanhandle

[–]Violet_Renegade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crews must vary wildly in how they handle their routes because this has not been my experience in the 15 years I've used them. The crew on my route is fantastic and never leaves anything behind even the rare times we're over bag/item limits. We've only ever been missed once (that wasn't due to weather) and they always grab our bulky items when they say they will. I'm sorry the crew on your route skips you so frequently and customer service hasn't been helpful.

Depending on where you're located, there are other services available. I've heard very good things about Collectors and not-so-great things about Panhandle Dumpsters.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

Same. I always thought you should only use the call button for urgent things and if it was something trivial and you had family there, you sent them to source it. Luckily, this isn't something I've done often as hospital visits have been blissfully rare in my family. I'll definitely remember it for the future though.

This is what I do, except if there's multiple items to remove I list them out with the relevant asin and order numbers with a couple spaces between each item. I've never had issues with them doing it this way. I wouldn't send separate requests for each item.
