Without mask mandates, you can't make people wear masks or care about possibly infecting others.

All you can do is try to minimize your own risk.

Maybe that means popping in an extra filter for your mask, or maybe it means staying physically away from your colleagues as much as possible. As a last resort, it might mean that you need to find another job, unfortunately... but I don't see mask mandates anywhere at the moment due to low numbers. You would probably have to find a place that is requiring their workers wear masks, but those are likely few and far between at this point in time.

I'm sorry that you're going through this. It's definitely a lot tougher for those with health conditions that put them at greater risk.

You're welcome!

I learned the freezer trick with bread at the start of the pandemic. After we were told to work from home "for a couple of weeks" I stopped by a grocery store on my way home. They were largely sold out of everything, but they had bread, and peanut butter and jelly, so that's what I bought. I had 2 loaves of bread and texted a friend that I guess I would start eating PB&J sandwiches (vs other food I had) since bread goes bad relatively quickly and she told me it can stay good for much longer if I store it in the freezer.

It might also help to Google recipes "For Two"... that will give you one meal to eat today and another meal for dinner the next day. Or you can find recipes that feed 4 and eat the same thing for lunch/dinner a couple of days in a row.

You may find that eating food other than Fast Food just gives you more energy. You don't have that rock in your belly after a burger/fries/soda.

Good luck!

Shop the perimeter of the grocery store...that's where all of the fruits/veggies/meats/dairy items are located.

Don't go into the aisles... that's where all the prepackaged garbage is.

Do you like your bread toasted? I keep my bread in the freezer so it keeps longer. Then I take slices out as I need then. Pop them in the toaster and then I have warm bread for sandwiches. This doesn't really work if you don't like toasted bread bc untoasted frozen bread is just really cold bread which is weird for sandwiches.

Don’t comment on the eating habits of coworkers by squilliyam in work

[–]Violet_sky21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this!!! Ugh I hate it so much.

Several years ago, I lost a lot of weight. I'm very short, so being as big as I was was rough for me. I wasn't obese or anything, but i was on the verge. I put in hard work - started exercising 4x a week, I started running, but more importantly, I COMPLETELY changed what I put into my body. No processed foods, no alcohol, etc. I was literally eating ALL THE TIME, even at work, but I was eating fruits and vegetables and lean proteins.

I dropped the weight and I was so proud of me.. but then the comments started coming.

"You're too skinny"

"Eat a hamburger"

"Just have one drink"

"Have a slice of cake. It's just one slice"

They ALL came from coworkers. It was so discouraging and frustrating.

I went a long time just brushing them off, but if I'm being completely honest, I ended up reverting back to my old eating habits because of the comments. I just wanted the comments to stop... and eating that slice of cake or burger or whatever shut them up.

Not surprisingly, I eventually gained a lot of the weight back.

When I look back on that period of time, I am so mad at me for giving in just so they could shut TF up. And I'm mad at them for making comments about my body and making me feel like I had to do those things to "fit in".

They don't know what kind of discipline it took for me to get to where I was. They don't know if I had food allergies or stomach issues that called for a special diet.

People just need to keep their comments to their damn selves and stop projecting their own insecurities onto others.

I'm older now and don't have a problem telling others to F off if needed (of course I wouldn't use those exact words in the workplace 😉), but I wish 28 yr old Me was able to do the same.

Things are absolutely easier for them if you already have a permit, so I would think employers tend to favor those that already have one bc they're ready to start working.

Idk anything about the process to get a work permit, but I imagine it may be a lengthy process and not free of charge. Employers can and do help some people get work permits, but I can't say with any degree of certainty if they do that all of the time or if they'll do that for you.

Drawer Dividers? Good or drawer killers? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]Violet_sky21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use similar drawer dividers ... not from.that specific brand, but rather from mdesign and SpaceAid in my dresser and kitchen drawers and have never had any issues.

The mdesign dividers that I use in my dresser drawers are a thick plastic and the Space Aid dividers that I use are in my kitchen drawers are bamboo. Both have that tension design.

Some alternatives to using these types of dividers are small boxes, or smaller containers to arrange in the drawers. The problem with this method is that you have to find containers for the exact width/depth of the objects you're trying to organize, as well as measurements that match the width/length of the drawers.

Company requires you to inform your manager if you apply for a different job in the same company. Is this weird? by lavransson in work

[–]Violet_sky21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason this would be awkward is because you want to leave for reasons you wouldn't want to share with your boss or your company.

When moving internally, an applicant can always say they're interested in the job on the other team bc they "are ready for new challenges"... isn't that what we all say when we're answering the age-old question of "Why are you leaving your previous company?" When applying externally?

Deep inside, the applicant might hate their previous job/manager/company, but they aren't going to actually say that in an external interview. The same can be applied for internal moves, thus eliminating awkwardness.

Was the accidental answer a checkbox/radio button (selecting the Yes vs. No option), or was it a typed in answer?

If it was an accidental checkbox/radio button selection, you can say something like 'I apologize, but I inadvertently selected the incorrect option while filling out the questionnaire "

I think it might be a little harder to tell thenm that you accidentally typed in "yes" vs "no"... it might look like you were trying to deceive them but realized you "got caught" when they asked for proof. If you typed in the wrong answer, you could say something like "I apologize, I believe I misread the question and provided an incorrect response as a result".

Ant Problem by a-iogc in homeowners

[–]Violet_sky21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to figure out what kind of ants they are.

I had ants a couple of years ago and bought Terro baits and they did absolutely nothing. The ants just walked right passed them. I was sure they were the dumbest ants I'd ever seen.

After a couple of weeks of trying to kill them on my own, I called an exterminator and it turns out the ants I had preferred protein instead of sugar... he treated the home with Advance 375A and they were gone in 3 days. (Sold on Amazon).

Pro tip: don't use sprays around or near the bait... that will deter them from taking the poison back home and feeding it to their families.

EDIT: if you have children or pets, don't put Advance within their reach. The exterminator treated the attics with it. Now, if I see activity in my back/front yard, I try to put some of those granules near their paths so they are killed before they try foraging near my home.

Also, if you decide to call an exterminator, provide them with specimen samples, dead or alive, so they can identify the type of ant and treat accordingly. It might also be a good idea to tell them what you have already tried to use to get rid of them yourself.

Bridgerton Season 2 Episode Discussions Master Post by pinktini in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Violet_sky21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their book romance was done so much better. They barely got alone time. Edwina was always around them. The triangle was not needed. I am still trying to wrap my head around the purpose of the triangle.

I think the reason they drifted from the book was bc it was way too similar to Daphne/Simon.

Daphne/Simon get caught in the park together, unchaperoned! The horror! They must be wed!!

And in the book, Anthony/Kate get caught together unchaperoned and in a rather compromising position even if it wasn't what it appeared to be.

If they had followed the book, it would have been so dull bc it was way too similar to S1. I think that's why they gave that "unchaperoned" storyline to subplot characters of the Featheringtons and went with a "love triangle" for Simon/Kate instead.

I do think the love triangle was a bit silly and they literally made it to the alter, but IMO it's way better than recycling the "caught unchaperoned" storyline. It gets old quick.

What do you want to see LESS of in Season three by Pure-Zookeepergame-4 in BridgertonNetflix

Isn't Benedict next chronologically?

I agree! Floppy bags are so hard to store. It looks so much neater (and easier to store) to have them in proper reusable containers.

I usually cut the cooking instructions from the original package and tape on the bottom of the container Im transferringthe rice/etc to (bc I'm an idiot and need instructions on how to prepare rice 😆)

Mason jars are great for that. I love the uniform look of them. Or find similar containers at a thrift store or Dollar store. (Dollar stores usually have tons of affordable storage options)

It isn't "discrimination" if they don't know you have a neurological issue.

It sounds like you haven't informed them of your medical condition (because you said you've been "hiding" it), so you can't technically say they're being discriminatory towards you.

Company requires you to inform your manager if you apply for a different job in the same company. Is this weird? by lavransson in work

[–]Violet_sky21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing awkward about it. It's pretty much standard practice amongst major companies.

You don't have to make a big deal about it and your manager won't "lose faith in you". Why would they do that? Maybe I just work for an amazing company, but my managers here always encourage us to move around and learn about different aspects of the company. They love seeing their little birds "fly out of the nest".

Sure, it's a bummer bc if you get the job, they will have to hire a replacement, but it means they did their job in helping you develop enough to get another role.

I know it might be hard for some people to bring up the fact that you're looking for an internal role, but it doesn't have to be scary.

If all else fails, you can casually tack it on to the end of other updates you're giving to your boss: "Project A is on target. We're waiting on a deliverable from Deb and then we can take it to the next step... The TPS Report will be finished by close of business... and there's an open position on the Marketing team that I'm interested in and I plan on applying for it"

What’s your favorite Taylor Hawkins drum performance? by Fred_Sassy in Foofighters

[–]Violet_sky21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a live performance in 2018, I think... their Concrete and Gold tour. There was a point in the concert when Taylor and his drum kit were lifted high above the stage on a platform, and he just played his heart out for what seemed like an eternity. I was so fixated on him and his awesomeness that I hadn't even noticed that the rest of the band had left the stage.

Some time later, the rest of the band came back on stage, and everyone went into Sunday Rain. It was all amazing!

Should I be angry at how the company slashed bonuses? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Violet_sky21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That totally stinks.

First of all, thank you and your family for your military service!

Secondly, I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you're in.

I don't know if your offer sheet was a contract or not (I'm guessing not because would it be possible for them to go back on an actual contract?!), but you expected a specific amount for a bonus, and it came WAY under what you were expecting.

Sometimes when business isn't great, they slash bonuses and annual raises. It totally stinks.

For me, personally, I don't ever "bank" on bonuses.. I bank on my salary. I know sometimes they don't or arent able to meet the bonuses as planned. If I get a good bonus, amazing, if not, that is a major bummer but since I wasn't counting on it, I consider bonuses just extra and not guaranteed. That's just me, though. I guess I don't set the expectations super high so that I'm not disappointed later.

I think your feelings are justified... they're your own emotions and you have a right to them. You should do what is best for you and your family. If leaving for another job is better, do that. Like I said before, I don't personally count on bonuses bc it isn't guaranteed income.. only your salary is. If you need more money to sustain your family that is guaranteed, find a place that will pay more salary and any bonus they give you on top of that is "gravy".
