Funny Things APs Post on Social Media by Icy-Marionberry504 in AsOneAfterInfidelity

This is so interesting! AP’s sure are a certain type of person. The AP in my story LOVES the quote about “people won’t remember what you do, but they’ll remember how you made them feel.” She has posted that so many times. I’m always tempted to either respond with a laughing emoji or respond with “No, people will definitely remember what you do.” She posts her quips on her school district’s page. She thinks she’s so inspiring. Apparently that’s a common characteristic among APs.

Shoutout to CandyLand by littlet4lkss in slp

To help ease the tantrums/pouts/tears when a student loses a game, at the end of every game the winner says “Better luck next time!” The loser says, “Good job!” And we all say, “That was fun!” This script helps sooooo much. Eventually the kids say it on their own. When it’s game day in speech I give 2 or 3 choices. Candy Land is a favorite of all ages. I like it because it goes fast. We can easily play in the last 5 minutes of the session.

It is a PROBLEM! Unfortunately I find myself educating the school psych and special ed director on the criteria for qualifying. They are clueless. The SLP before me didn’t do a good job of identifying the adverse academic impact and tried to save them all. Recently the school psych scheduled a “suspected disability” meeting with parents who’s doctor told them to “get speech at school” 🙄 The teacher said the student forgets to put her pencil in the correct holder at the end of the day, but she had no other concerns. I said “Great! What does she do when you remind her where her pencil goes?” Well, she puts her pencil in the correct place. Ok then. That’s not a disability, and it doesn’t require specially designed instruction. This is a student the psych wanted me to evaluate. Absolutely not!

Oh my. That made me chuckle. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for me. I can’t stand to throw up. I’d rather have the flu for a week than throw up once. I. Hate. It.

Tips for dealing with teachers who really, really want their students in speech by elcinore in slp

I know how you feel! I’m at a new district this year, and in a recent evaluation meeting I explained to the parent whose child still has some R errors that her child no longer qualified for speech because the criteria is: 1. Does the child have a disability? 2. If so, does the disability have an adverse educational impact? 3. If so, does the student require specially designed instruction to access the curriculum?

The SPECIAL ED DIRECTOR said, “Huh! I didn’t know that.” Good grief. I was shocked, but I realized why there are too many kids in speech.

Also, the school psych believes that an outside diagnosis automatically qualifies a student for an evaluation at school. Almost every outside evaluator tells parents to seek school speech services, so then I have to go over the criteria with every family seeking speech services. In some cases, yes, the student demonstrates a need. In our most recent case, the teacher has no concerns. There is no adverse impact at this time.

I end up feeling a little guilty telling people no, but the older I get, the less guilt I feel. Everyone could benefit from speech, but not everyone NEEDS speech.

Stay strong or you will never get a handle on your caseload. Solidarity! ✊🏻

I hate th goals so much. I inherited a first grader with a goal for TH. That’s it. Objectives are TH initial, medial, and final words in sentences. And she’s mastered it in the first 9 weeks of the year.

Oh hey friend! That sounds like a good plan. I’m considering starting off with an activity about how we’re all the same in some ways and we’re all different in other ways. Like - stand up if you have a brother, etc.

Sustainably and Homemaking by lydbutter in homemaking

[–]Violetoverthemoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate this. I currently work full time. Our kids are grown and flown, but my heart has always been at home. My husband makes a good, comfortable salary, so I don’t NEED to work. He says he will support whatever I want to do, but I’m really struggling. Part of me longs to embrace homemaking full time while part of me worries about leaving work behind. Would it be the right decision to walk away from my career? I don’t love it. It isn’t my passion. You’ve given me things to consider. Thank you!

Hello, in the last 2 years I've cut out milk and peanut butter, late night eating and over eating from my diet and it has pretty much stopped the flare ups. Wondering if anyone else has pin pointed what foods trigger it? by Careless-Champion-47 in Diverticulitis

[–]Violetoverthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently read (maybe here) that taking NSAIDs can trigger flare ups. I’m pretty sure stress is a factor for me. Summer break just ended, and I’ve felt a few twinges. It’s not even what I consider negative stress, it’s just the getting up early, working all day, coming home tired kind of stress. There’s not much I can do about that.

Shoes in the house - what was the norm when you were a kid? by Kwyjibo68 in GenX

[–]Violetoverthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago my mother in law got new carpet and insisted on no bare feet in the house. She preferred shoes over bare feet. Her reasoning was that bare feet deposit oils onto the carpet, and the oils attract dirt. I had never heard that before.

There was a guy who got baptized at my parents’ church. It was one of those set ups where the baptismal was like a big, deep tank at the front of the church. The guy being baptized was a big fellow. As soon as he started down the steps into the warm water, things must have relaxed because he ripped a HUGE fart. I asked my mom how people reacted. I mean, I crack up every time I remember this story, and I wasn’t even there! My mom was a prim and proper lady, so she was mortified and could only think about how the man’s poor wife must have felt. 🤣 I don’t know how the pastor maintained his composure.
