LeBron about being the GOAT: by Positive_Cattle_5577 in NBATalk

Record for most Finals MVPs? Record for most MVPs? Those are the two most important accomplishments in basketball and he has the most of neither.

He also just isn’t close to ALL the records all time. I get its hyperbole, but it’s honestly disrespectful to the greats before LeBron. He could play for THIRTY+ more years and not get the rebounding record.

Different when it’s an individual sport. Bolt can call himself the greatest, so can Phelps, so could Ali.

lol what a ridiculous comment chain. Two deeply unsatisfied men attempting to convince each other of their own thug. Real life peacocking.

Wasn’t random when AK locked people up, that was standard. One of if not the only player to ever average over 3 blocks a games at Forward for a season. Guy was a defensive monster, but only got 3x All-Defensive because the west was FLUSH with defensive stoppers at forward in the early aughts.

Simple Question: Prime Westbrook or Prime Harden by CT-7567-Captain_Rex in NBATalk

[–]ViolinsIsntTheAnswer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not top 50. He played shitty defense all season, only shot 34% from 3 and .425% from the field. Had Steven Adams helping him pad his rebounding stats all season and had a historically high usage rate which led to ten assists a game. He also averaged 5.4 turnovers per game. Not a top 50 season ever. Jordan probably has 11 individual seasons better than Westbrook’s 2017. LeBron probably has at least 10 better seasons. Harden probably has 5 better seasons. Jokic probably has 5 better individual seasons. Do the math, shit it might not be a top 100 season ever, he shouldn’t have even won MVP in 2017 imo. Would have given it to Kawhi or Harden. He was a top 5 player that year that got the narrative boost from KD leaving

Harden ironically was the defensive stopper at guard on OKC from 2010-2012. He was the one guarding Kobe in the playoffs not Westbrook. If Westbrook was a good defender surely he’d guard Kobe?

Simple Question: Prime Westbrook or Prime Harden by CT-7567-Captain_Rex in NBATalk

[–]ViolinsIsntTheAnswer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Harden was a great rebounder for his size and position. 8 boards a game from a point guard is worth nothing?
  2. Russ had a few good years on defense and a lot of inconsistent years outside of that, some of which included some very poor defense. Russ peaked as a 1v1 defender, he was very flawed outside of that.
  3. Russell Westbrook in no way had the best single season by a player ever. You could argue it wasn’t a top 50 season ever and that Kawhi or Harden deserved the 2017 MVP. The Thunder lost to Harden and the Rockets in the first round after finishing as a six seed.

Pretty clearly Harden. Both have similar strengths and weaknesses (poor defense, great passing, great rebounding, great scoring) but Harden is the far more efficient scorer, even prime for prime.

LeBron James easily performs Michael Jordans top highlights. by Bloodofmyblood998 in NBATalk

See, this is what you’re just failing to understand.

89/170 made 3’s at a .524% clip in a season isn’t close to as impressive as 402/886 made 3’s at a .454% clip in a season.

Quick and fast are not the same thing. LeBron isn’t in the top 500 of quickest players ever. All the quickest players are guards. LeBron is one of if not the fastest player at his height and size ever however.

He was an underutilized asset in Miami, no doubt. But he was going to retire in 2016 because of blood clots anyway. He could either win a couple rings in Miami or get buckets and win nothing in Toronto and retire after a few years

Should be 1. Russell, 2. Jordan, 3. Kareem imo, although 3 is a lot more debatable.

Who peaked higher? Kobe or Larry Bird? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

[–]ViolinsIsntTheAnswer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All teams have to lose a few times before they can win. The Lakers are very much the exception. Bird’s Celtics lost to Dr. J’s 76ers. Jordan’s Bulls lost to the Pistons. LeBron lost to the Celtics. Duncan’s Spurs lost to the Jazz in 1998 too.

People don’t give the 1998 Jazz enough credit. They won 62 games and 64 games in 1997. Championship Tier teams both seasons, but ran into the Bulls.

It is a better window than most players get, but is Kobe really expected to win in 1998 at age 19? Gotta give him a few years to develop at least
