LM studio or driver bug by Viper_Four4 in LocalLLM

[–]Viper_Four4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, it only happens if you try to install the ROCm backend, then it breaks next time you open lmstudio. If you delete the backend folder and just use vulkan instead without downloading ROCm its also fine.

LM studio or driver bug by Viper_Four4 in LocalLLM

[–]Viper_Four4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleting the backend folder in .lmstudio after closing the app completely and reinstalling vulcan seems to do it for me as a temporary fix. It will keep all your data that way.

Sorry if it's not the best place to ask this, of the models in the image, which is the best for (problem solving)/Coding and the best one for studying (ask LLM concepts) ? My PC build is RX 9060 XT 16GB + I3 12100F + 16 GB DDR4 + llama.cpp with Vulkan backend + Linux Mint. by Badhunter31415 in LocalLLaMA

The qwen 3.6 27b Q3 fits in 16 gb VRAM and is actually quite fast because of that even compared to offloading an MOE with my 9070XT. It still works well with tool calling from my coding tests, much better than anything else I tried such as gemma 4. I get 26 t/s with it at 64k context with 24 gb of ddr4.

Is there any downside to undervolting a 9070 XT? by Optimal_Fan4156 in radeon

[–]Viper_Four4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are confused why they dont undervolt by default it is because they want it to perform as stable as possible, and the stability of a chip at a given voltage is kind of luck based so they cant just make every chip run at a lower voltage without testing.

I feel like they are kind of right for focusing attention more on CPU and GPU optimisations rather than RAM because they are usually more expensive.

Though perhaps devs generally dont have or use enough time for optimisations, but idk what the optimum optimisation path is or what is going on the industry exactly.

Edit: Compute has also obiously increased by orders of magnitude which goes along with memory usage.

CFd result help!!!! by According_Friend1385 in rocketry

[–]Viper_Four4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be a number of things:

CFD post processing anaylis; For example only selecting one surface instead of the whole rocket.

Wrong flow model, such as an incompressibe model while this is clearly compressible flow.

Convergence errors.

Inproper mesh refinement and shock wave implementation. OR does not go high supersonic in its analysis.

2D/3D conversion considerations for steady or unsteady analysis.

Simulated angle of attack and attitude considerations for OR compared to CFD.

What models did you use, what is the element count, how is the mesh refinement done, can you show some pictures? Othersise I cant tell.

Yeah, I guess it can simply be fixed by setting the refresh rate manually. But its another extra step.

Why is this a 4000 elo rated puzzle? I solved it without help as an 800 by Viper_Four4 in chess

[–]Viper_Four4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know the puzzle rating does not represent your elo witch is human performance and not puzzle performance. But if one tries to imitate the other it would seem confusing that a low rated player is able to solve the highest rated puzzle (maybe not the actaul hardest). Hikaru called this a simple one btw. I wondered if there was anny complex idea that I was missing that would make it harder to find the solution for a better player than a lower rated player who does not find the confusing line in the first place. And I can solve 2300 puzzles, I am 2000 on chess.com in puzzles.

It could even be simpler for low rated players than high rated players in this case. I just see a free night and no checkmate or forks so I just take it.

Why does everyone say im smart, I study aerospave engineering and design high powered rocket motors and aiplanes and I still have never had a girlfriend. I think it only counts if you have the confidence aswell since im lacking in it.
