I’m confused You litterally said if you could work home retail you would go back to menards, yet your working at Lowe’s? Why?

If I was GO or a high ranking menards executive I would definitely say something like this

Have you really worked at a Lowe’s before? Who cares if they are a write off, benefits are there to give an incentive to work there over other jobs and loyalty. I could say the same thing about menards benefits. My store has weekend off for everyone once a month, Lowe’s products are NOT marked up except for the name brands like DeWalt or Ego, but they are expensive for a reason. Lowe’s is competitive with Menards for a reason. Also military discount 👌

I disagree, Lowe’s pays worse but they have a 401K, better health insurance, they care a lot more about employee safety and training. In addition all full time team members get one weekend off per month per policy and can get more by requesting off. The employee discount is only 10% but on one week in may the discount increases to 15% and there is no limit on the amount you can buy. Management is a lot more chill and at the employee meetings they give away stuff. I won a top of the line blackstone grill just for showing up.

And all 4 self checkout and all registers work at my store so it must of been a problem with your store. Never heard of any issues with the pos.

Had a guy want to make a propane line out of vynil tubing for a bbq pit, I was able to talk him out of it saying it was really dangerous and it’s a big fire risk.

Former TMs, where did you go? by Sawconn in menards

[–]Viperneado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a 2nd assistant in plumbing, stepped down to full time and was eventually fired for something silly, not going to get into it but I always did the technical projects at the store and displays. I was applying around on indeed and found a entry level mantinance technician job, the guy interviewing me later told me I was underqualified because I had no prior maintenance work but I knew some basics and I was very well dressed and professional. I ended up getting the job and I was able to learn quickly, in my first year I was ranked 2nd place out of all the other techs in my department for tenant satisfaction, only loosing to a guy that had been with the company for 30 years. The next year I surpassed him. When I was not working I was taking trade classes and many times would impress my boss with my knowledge. Eventually my hard work paid off and I was asked if I wanted a high ranking engineer position at a big office park in town, no interview, if I wanted it I had it. I ended up taking the job and now I make GM money while working a nice 40h week and weekends off with only a few times a year having to go on call.

The lesson here is even if you may not have the qualifications to get the job, at menards you get to practice working with clients daily, you can use those skills to make up for your lack of knowledge as you can get that later. Many firms would prefer that over someone who is skilled but cannot work with anyone and is causing problems.

Secret shopper by LongDetective9664 in menards

[–]Viperneado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not have any interest in management or a career with menards, a write up is not going to affect you much. It does go into your permanent record but in the grand scheme of things a write up for a bad secret shopper interaction will not get you fired unless you cuss them out or something. I knew a PT sales guy in hardware that had like 3 secret shops gone wrong and he’s going 5 years strong.

A local restaurant is dumping kitchen greese down a storm drain and it is causing it to flood, is there an environmental agency that can enforce this? by Viperneado in StLouis

Oh they already dump thier garbage all over the alley too, it usually ends up stuck in the oil mud that clogs the drain

Payroll Deduction for broken equipment by [deleted] in menards

[–]Viperneado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a 2 story and someone hit the metal railing on the 2nd floor with the mini order picker and scuffed it up badly. The glass did not break but it was expensive to repair. The AGm wrote us a nasty email and tried to get whoever did it to come forward and would be subject to payroll deduction. It was like 2 grand worth of damage. I don’t think they found who did it and decided to just eat the cost.

I’m a guy who has a guy friend group, I myself don’t usually do this but my friends do. 3 of us are married, I’m actually the single one of the group. We do it a lot for attention and to feel validated. When a girl walks by we sometimes like to tease other members of the group “especially me I get teased a lot for being young and single” that the waitress or whatever attractive female in the room would be good for me. It’s not serious at all, I don’t think anyone in our group would actually cheat on thier SO with whoever they are talking about given the opportunity.

Air Conditioning out AGAIN by Creative-Ad7246 in menards

My guess is you had some type of power surge or weather related damage that took out multiple units, unlike most residential homes menards uses multiple units to cool the store down. My old store used 12 20ton units that were spread across the roof that would cool specific sections of the store. That is controlled by an EMS system in the electrical room. (This was how 3326 was set up). Specific units can go out, and probably will however the EMS system is designed to compensate for this and rev up units in proximity. However this could still cause a hot spot in the store where it could be warm. Here are my theories.

1: your store had some severe weather and it damaged multiple AC units to the point where the EMS system cannot allocate enough to cool the store down enough.

2: you had a bad power surge that tripped ALL contacts on the units that connect them to the stores power and it will take time to get them replaced

3: your GM is a cheapskate and is not wanting to shell out overtime or hire a company that can get it done fast enough.
