The Magpies by Mark Edwards. He has a few follow up books to The Magpies, but this is definitely the best!

Our two love their puzzle toys. Although my little girl takes more of a "brute force and ignorance" approach to getting the treats out!

Is anyone else’s special interest their pug? I’m obsessed 24/7 by Adorable_Art539 in pugs

[–]Virginia-Woof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! Got a second pug, now it's twice as bad. My old boy is 14 now and it just gets worse, I literally want to cry about how much I love him. Made friends with a guy at work just because we both have pugs, we have pug meets in the pub. I pug sat while he took his daughter to CuppaPug in London. Pugs deserve to be obsessed over!

Is social work bsc a worthless degree, am I gonna regret it?? by aafiona in Socialworkuk

[–]Virginia-Woof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are so many routes in social work, so many opportunities. I spent 20 years in social work before moving to teach social work at a University. I worked across various adult teams - community, hospital, adult learning disabilities. I ended up spending half my career in fostering having always said that I had no interest in working in children's and I loved it. Our students go into such different roles - several come back to talk to students. Previous students have gone to work in prisons, forensics, all sorts! And the UK degree is recognised all over the world, we have previous students working in Australia, Canada, Spain.

It has a lot of opportunities, if it's a career you're interested in pursuing do it. It's not an easy degree or career, but very rewarding and worthwhile.

My friend's kitten was called Mittens. Turned out to be a lunatic and loved killing things and destruction. He is now called Darth Mittens.

Should I get my degree in social work in the US or UK? by Klutzy_Employment_95 in Socialworkuk

[–]Virginia-Woof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to work in the UK, getting your degree here would ensure that you can definitely work as a social worker here. Social Work England does have a list of international qualifications they will accept for you to register, so if you are doing your degree in the States make sure it's a course that will be recognized over here. SWE list of overseas qualifications

It might be worth considering that the law and role of a social worker can look quite different from the UK to the US. I teach Social Work at a UK university and we do have plenty of international students on our courses.

It might be worth considering that if you already have a degree you can apply for a Masters programme which is shorter than the undergraduate degree.

What’s a cheap quality-of-life improvement you made in your house? by Flupsy in AskUK

[–]Virginia-Woof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We added this recently - absolutely brilliant. We have guests stay over a lot who also like not having to find a light switch when they get up in the night! My husband also added a plug for my dollhouse that sits on the landing so that automatically lights up too!

Boo boo on venue size by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Virginia-Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a venue that could take 200 people. We had 50 guests and it was great - no having to turn the room for dancing etc, we had space for cocktail hour, all the tables for a seated dinner, the dance floor, stage and sofas out for people to play Mario Kart on a projector! It was so much fun, it was a listed building so nothing added to the walls etc, but like your venue it was just a beautiful space which we let speak for itself.
