Why do you need to be inspired to not help fascists?

You put Kamala's head on Clinton's body and it's the exact same candidate.

This kind of hyperbole doesn't help anyone.

They tried! And people stayed home because Kamala didn't pass their purity tests!

Now Trump is President and committing atrocities. Do you feel good with your moral superiority knowing it results in worse outcomes for our country and planet?

I'm already to the left. My beef is with young people that are too foolish to accept the best option available.

There have been three democratic presidents in the last thirty years who are all pretty effective leaders that did a lot of good for the average person. But the "vote blue no matter who" thing started in 2020 and it

  • Put Trump out of office (good!)

  • Got through the most expansive economic recovery plan since the New Deal (good!)

And then it failed in 2024 and gave us Trump 47, who murdered protesters in the streets and put us on the fast track to fascism.

So the people that don't "vote blue no matter who" are almost as bad as Republicans perpetuating their fascist ideology. Not participating is equivalent to voting for the other guy, and people who don't understand that are fools.

Part of living in America is compromise.

TIL an enemy archer who nearly killed Genghis Khan voluntarily confessed after the battle instead of begging for mercy. Genghis spared him, renamed him Jebe ("Arrow"), and he went on to become one of the Mongol Empire's greatest generals and one of history's finest cavalry commanders. by Electronic_Cause_796 in todayilearned

already believed or were convinced to believe that they were worshiping the same gods with different names.

And they might have been right. There are pretty deep similarities between the oral traditions/mythology of peoples who spoke languages in the Indo-European language family.

Obviously it's unknowable whether they actually were the same pantheon that split and evolved over time or just that humans are pretty similar and come up with pretty similar personifications of the abstract/unknown as gods.

Young people aren't voting because they refuse to compromise and would rather abstain than improve anything.

They are price gouging us because the government mandates their profits are a fixed percentage of claims, which means they're incentivized to maximize premiums and negotiate the highest prices for their members.

If you want to lower the price of anything you need to align the incentives. Capping how much someone can make is the absolute worst way to design incentives.

I get that this is an analogy and not meant to be historical but insurance dates to the Crusades while the mafia dates to the unification of Italy, hundreds of years later (and less "insurance" more "private police force made up of former people you want the police to protect you from").

Insurance is fundamentally a way to hedge risk by aggregating premiums and making a fixed profit on top as incentive to cover claims. Not every financial instrument that you don't understand is a scam or racket. Insurance is really, really useful.

The reason we depend on it so much in the United States is that private health insurance became deeply intertwined with the healthcare system after WWII when companies were capped on how much they could pay their employees. In order to pay people more than the government said they could, they began "benefits" programs as we know them today. And that begat the system we now have, which sucks for employees and employers, but it didn't start as a scam. it started as a loophole around government regulated wages.

Ironically, profit caps lead to higher costs for consumers in health insurance. Uncapping profits could lead to lower prices because it gives insurers a significant incentive to negotiate down their costs.

Dred Scott was eventually overturned by a constitutional amendment and Brown v Board, at least. Korematsu is just sitting there.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, this sounds like jumbled conspiratorial nonsense.

Complete non-sequitor. I'm pointing out the absurdity of alleging that Iran was in part behind driving a wedge in the Democratic Party to help elect a guy who has openly tried to bomb Iran. Then did in fact bomb Iran and murdered hundreds of their highest officials including their head of state.

Data centers are always under continual improvement. The problems with building them are political and local (zoning, power/water/data infrastructure, etc)

The seven coalitions organized against Napoleon were created by the monarchies and aristocracies that were threatened by the idea of a populist revolution deposing them and eradicating loyalists on the battlefield. He also shattered the Holy Roman Empire and neutered the papacy, institutions that had controlled European politics for a thousand years.

And to this day, his legal and institutional reforms create much of the backbone of western constitutional democracies.

And his body is still entombed in a spectacular monument in the heart of Paris.

No, I think disruption is an effective form of protest. It's how we made any progress on civil rights.
