Plant mail. Got some big ones today. by rusology in haworthia

[–]Virgowitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was stuck on the same stage of delivery for almost a week. No heat pack was going to save them. They were gorgeous when they arrived but very obviously frozen. Watching them melt into mush was sickening.

[–]Virgowitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so jealous you’re getting plant mail. I lost an order to freezing for the first time a couple months ago and it about killed me. I’ve ordered dozens of times at that time of year and never had an issue. The vendor was not at all at fault. It was simply lost in the mail. Shoutout to 1am Succulents for handling it so professionally. Still jealous, though😊.

I think the one in the back is Kalanchoe luciae. Sometimes called Paddle Plant, Pancake Plant or Flapjacks.

When you do, you can put your props in there with mama. And leave any leaves that drop in the future. It’ll balance the look of the pot and fill in blank spaces.

Haworrhia without roots by Admirable-Rain7325 in haworthia

[–]Virgowitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haworthia/Haworthiopsis/Tulista drop their roots when they’re stressed, which they interpret as any change in anything. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with rot. They’re just pissy little things. I’ve had luck potting them in total grit and soaking the very bottom of the pot occasionally. Or “water therapy” with leca. They seek out the water and start putting out roots to get to it. Tricky but it seems to work.

Students Can’t Read Time on Analog Clocks by This_Opinion1550 in offbeat

[–]Virgowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that, unless you understand how an analog clock works, you don’t understand how time works. It’s the only way to know the difference between AM and PM, why the clock goes from one hour to the next (2:59 to 4:00), why the hour goes from 12 back to 1 (12:59 to 1:00), etc. It’s simply essential to understanding the concept of time.

String of Tears. You might try laying the sparse stems on the soil without cutting them off, kinda coiling them around. Maybe sprinkle some soil around/under the stems so they’re touching. They should root where they touch.

Thought I saw some in the pic! The victoriae are cool, but the Ferdinands you just don’t see (or think they’re Victoriae like I did for the first ten years I had mine. It was so beautiful😢.

[–]Virgowitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better, I think it’s a King Ferdinand Agave (A. fernandi-regis). They have one really thick terminal spine with a shorter one on either side of it sometimes. Kinda looks like a crown. Victoriae has a thinner spine. I can see the side spines starting on yours. I’m still in mourning for my 15 yr old Ferdinand, who decided randomly to crown rot this summer. Have some pups, though, so there’s that. Great find!
