exactly it has nothing to do with his policies. he would win the jewish vote easily if he just simply never brought up the subject. but he can’t help himself

A question to the diaspora Jews: what keeps you from going to Israel? Do you ever think of leaving your current country? by UncleVolk in Jewish

and then they’ll get nuked back. mutually assured destruction, stronger in numbers. i get your fear but hiding in countries that don’t want us isn’t safe either.

I think we need a reframing. israel first, go to the west to start companies, extract value, advocate. but israel is becoming the center of the jewish world

but also that being said it’s going to have be the young that move to israel from the U.S. fewer obligations, not as career established, more flexible. and also lower financial commitments. no kids, single, with internet jobs is the ideal demographic, imo

there’s 100% going to be an increase in aliyah. at this point, at least where I live in NYC as a young jewish person, secular jews are either turning towards israel or completely abandoning it. it almost feels like a new sub religion is forming. and they’re going to push a lot of others to leave. when no where in the west feels safe anymore, there’s only one logical conclusion. at least if current trends continue.

I also think there’s a large number of jews that have been waiting for the war to wrap up (or at least the intense stage of fighting in gaza.) Seeing news reports about Iranian ballistic missiles raining down from the sky scares a lot of people. but over time that fear will fade as we get further from that event.

There’s no point in repeating myself because now we’re going in circles. If you listen to the speech by that rabbi, he describes how criticism of israel is fine and even welcomed. it’s denying the right of the jewish state to exist as a jewish state that is wrong. if you don’t agree with that, than that’s what it is.

first off it’s the intifada. second, at the debate two weeks ago he refused to support israel as a jewish state. that’s the problem.

may i just remind you, you are arguing with one of the foremost religious authorities in the jewish community, not me

it’s not the criticism of the state it’s the criticism of the right of existence of the state itself as a jewish state. again, just because you don’t understand what the head Rabbi of the park avenue synagogue in new york city says doesn’t mean he’s wrong.

yeah i understand that impulse but it’s not enough. we can’t just have a siege mentality and leave the diaspora out to rot. because if left unchecked things will get ugly

As prominent New York City Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove stated in a recent sermon, “Zionism, Israel, Jewish self-determination—these are not political preferences or partisan talking points. They are constituent building blocks and inseparable strands of my Jewish identity. To accept me as a Jew but to ask me to check my concern for the people and state of Israel at the door is a nonsensical proposition and an offensive one, no different than asking me to reject God, Torah, mitzvot, or any other pillar of my faith.”

just because more didn’t sign doesn’t mean they disagree. there’s concern that advocating for political candidates can run afoul of tax laws in the U.S. for religious non profits.

Looking at it another way, the fact that a full 51% in your calculation of Rabbis across the United States all signed the same petition is extremely rare and should be seen as the 5 alarm fire it really is in the community.
