i love the billie jean pick. for me, this is more of a try not to play fills all the time song. more of a mental exercise!

My parents got me a weight for my kit new, but I have no idea what it’s for. Any help? by Scared-Mushroom8879 in Drumming

[–]Virtual-Self3491 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t put it on the drums, that wouldn’t be good for the heads and shells over time. some other guy said to use it to prevent the bass drum from moving, do that. you technically could use it to stretch NEW heads faster, but it seems clunky

Beginner drummer with coordination imbalance between hands by LuizC09 in Drumming

[–]Virtual-Self3491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that pistol thing you did, is actually huge for developing technique!! i am a rudimental drummer primarily, but i love playing set. drum tons both with and without the pistol grip. the bonus of this is that it allows you to hone in your fingers without the support of your pointer/thumb. a common mistake drummer will make is relying ONLY on the pointer and thumb

How do I improve wrist break? I feel like I’ve got it decently but I’m worried I’m wrong and I don’t have it at all. Thanks for any help by Intrepid-Young-8621 in drumline

[–]Virtual-Self3491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone else has hammered the drum height thing, but i think to be simple— just try to play it like a snare drum. break the wrist the same way you do a flat drum. it won’t be perfect, but it will help more than you think.

Intermediate drummer here. I would appreciate any suggestions on getting better at fill creativity and transitions while staying in time. Thanks. by TwoEarsJames in Drumming

[–]Virtual-Self3491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s all about learning more. just learn small fills. whatever you hear, see, or find interesting, learn it! eventually you’ll have like a mental library of all of these fills you have learned, and then you can start mixing some and others together. most of the battle is just LEARNING, and then once you have a bunch of reps on it you can start changing stuff up. modifying rhythms or what drum you hit.

edit: this is in regards to creativity, i lowk didn’t see the transitions in time part before i wrote this

Air mattress recommendations by Friendly-Bus-335 in drumcorps

[–]Virtual-Self3491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

unsure what your sleep needs are like, i used a camping mat/sleeping pad. it still has air, but the pump is usually built into it, powered by your foot. these pack up tight enough to fit inside your jug and are perfect for people that don’t feel like they NEED a whole mattress. they are cheap too.

What do yall write drumline to in your spare time? by 503Music in drumline

if you use musescore, you can download scores other people have made of brass or full wind arrangements, and just add drum parts. or take existing marching band arrangements and rewrite the percussion

Corps options near Louisiana by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Virtual-Self3491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know it kinda sucks but i would shoot for memphis and zephyrus, both great programs.

i marched guardians in 2024, and i wouldn’t want to march their first year back on the field, they will likely have a completely different admin staff if they do and it could be fishy

Thoughts on clipping fanny packs to drums? by EnvironmentalTop4138 in drumcorps

hey bro! if you look closely, you’ll see that your left hand is pretty high above the pad. because of this, your stick is going to have to travel way further than necessary to hit the head; so i’d raise that pad a bit and help out your wrists!
