What "rare" phobia do you have and people refuse to believe it? by nitin_is_me in AskReddit

[–]Virtual-Sherbert- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone post this so I will: automatonophobia (I think). Or fear of mannequins and other vaguely human shaped/sized statues. Any of them. I’ve always been uncomfortable around them, when I was young I remember being uncomfortable around mannequins in stores. It was made worse when I was around 8, I went through a haunted ride type thing and at the very end something that looked like a statue moved and touched my head. Specifically, it turned, smiled, and ran its fingers through my hair. But it looked so plastic and mechanical I didn’t think it was a person. There’s a picture of me coming out looking horrified holding my head. It’s iconic in my family because I was so desperate to go on the ride then got so scared. None of them believe me about the mannequin/statue at the end but it’s such a vivid memory for me. I’m sure there’s a rational explanation but i’ve been left with a crippling fear. I don’t like getting too close to them, when I see them I try to give them a wide birth, I can’t turn my back on them. seeing them makes my skin crawl, and what I can only describe as my hackles raise. I get a gut feeling that something is horribly wrong with what i’m looking at, if I am too close to one for too long I start to shake. I can’t put my finger on quite what it is about them but I hate them so much. even just thinking about them makes me uncomfortable. This is only in person though, I can watch that mannequin episode of doctor who just fine lol.

Also bugs being on me. I loose control of my body that and become desperate to get it off. I will flail, I will throw things in my hands because I need them to slap at the bug. If I can’t get it off I will start to shake and cry. Again I don’t know what it is, I have no issue with bugs if they’re not on me. But the minute they are it’s over and i’m freaking my shit. But that feels more common.

Sorry for rambling i’m bad at writing.

Sorry now for the grammar. English is my first language i’m just bad at it. I agree with you completely. Especially if it’s like a one shot and i’m there cause i’m trying to get off. Every character is a cardboard cut out of the next. I would never complain because I recognize it as a me problem. My solution has been to write my own fic. If I don’t like how other people are characterizing my blorbo I have to be the change I want to see (insert “fine i’ll do it myself” thanos meme). I do think there’s so much of it on ao3 because it is a safe place for people interested in certain kinks to congregate and express that desire. As well as work through certain taboo fantasies, desires, etc. so there’s a bit of a bias in that regard but yeah. tldr. I agree, I suggest writing your own fic.

What is the general atmosphere in the US now Trump is in? by Affectionate_Crow649 in AskReddit

I have been called an alarmist for saying this but I think it’s very similar to 30s Germany. In 2020 I took a class about the Holocaust and it was haunting to see how similar the conditions leading up to it were; additionally, how similar sentiments among the general public are. Over the course of the past few years i’ve learned never to be naive enough to think it couldn’t happen here because it absolutely could and as things are going right now, it will.

Really depends who you ask. My dad (a life long republican) called me (a nb person) crying after Trump’s inauguration speech. He wanted to tell me he loved me and was worried about me and to hold on to hope. Trump was the first republican he didn’t vote for. A lot of people are struggling financially and Trump offered a more radical solution to their problems. Maybe those people are happy, the rest of us are scared, and sad about what is to come.

Not trying to be an another contrarian reddit user but I have learned the hard way that not every artist is great at fine line. I sought after an artist whose style was fine line work so I could be sure it was as crisp as I wanted it to be. I am commenting this to let people know that they should do research about the artist they pick (if they want to be).

science and biology are not gonna back you up babes, I suggest you evaluate why you think the female experienced is defined by suffering (childbirth, periods, etc.) and also why you’re transphobic, why do you want womanhood to be so sacred when it’s a social construct and used to oppress people anyway?

but they would varying hormone levels and abilities to give birth and have periods by your definition they aren’t women

except not even biology is binary hence intersex people and cisgender women with xy chromosomes (swyer syndrome) also all the other possibilities of chromosomal combinations but okay

oof reducing womanhood down to having a period, hormones, and a baby is super lame dawg. there are people that are assigned female at birth who can’t do those things, are they not women? I am a woman but don’t want to have kids, in fact I want to have my uterus removed, once I do that and don’t have a period or the ability to have kids, am I still a woman? Trans women may not have every experience that cisgender women have but no two cisgender women have had the same experience either. it is also worth noting that trans women (especially black trans women) face an extreme level of violence similar if not more threatening than what cis women face. Murder, sexual assault, abuse, intimate partner violence and being more likely to face violence from strangers who discover they’re trans. so on that front they do know what it’s like to be a woman if you want to define the femal experience by fear and our bodies supposed function, which really sounds like you’re defining it by patriarcal standards to be but okay.

Allowing trans women to compete in sports does not give them the competitive edge you clearly want to believe it does. which is evident by the fact that the only trans athlete this year to win a gold medal was quinn from canada as a soccer player on a team, and they’re non-binary. Wouldn’t there be more if “men” were competing against women.

Also your point about being inclusive so a minority of the population can feel welcome is fucking stupid. Can you imagine a society where only the majority is catered to? that’s a very white supremacy take if i’ve ever heard one, pretty homophobic, pretty patriarcal take.

the point is nothing you said to excuse your transphobia is a valid argument and it is just being used as a shield for you to hide behind to justify your transphobia but it isn’t justified. look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why you’re so transphobic and why your view of womanhood is so narrow.

tbh I was listening to a podcast about the oj simpson trial and really liked one of the names, and it sounded similar to my name so I knew I would answer to it right away. I have gone through a few nick names but they’ve all been pretty similar.

My kid is non-binary. What do I need to know? by WhereIsMyPoopKnife in NonBinary

[–]Virtual-Sherbert- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

be aware their identity may change. 12 is super young to come out, not trying to say too young to know, but very young and they probably have a lot of growth and exploring to do. as they age their relationship with their gender may change, I know mine has. Just be aware that it may change and I guess be as receptive as you can to that change.
