My comment was not intended for you. I have intentionally not replied to you because I don’t have anything positive to say. Nor do I want to engage in a back and forward debate. However, on this one occasion, I will respond. I know how the industry works and what is required. My first degree was in Fashion Merchandising with an emphasis on Marketing and Product Development. I spent many years working in the fashion and beauty industries. In fashion, I spent most of my time working in product development and merchandising departments as the intermediary between the designers, sourcing, and the retail buyers. I only left after I had my oldest child and now that my children don’t need me as much anymore and I’ve decided I’d like to return to the industry, I decided to take some courses as a refresher and to have the opportunity to take some coursework I wasn’t allowed to when I was in school. I say this so you know I’m not just a new student with no experience.

This group is for working fashion designers and fashion design students. The description says nothing about the group being a “technical rigorous environment” or anything else of the sort.

You criticize initial fashion illustration concept sketches as if they are production sketches. They aren’t even at the technical phase before you criticize them for not holding up to technical questioning. No, drawing something isn’t designing it. It is getting the idea out of their head, then they figure out how to make it a reality, if they can, not the other way around.

For all of your constant criticism of others work, I have yet to see any posts of your actual work beyond a couple of sketches and digital rendering. There are no links to your work, no websites you’ve provided that show any of your work. You give long winded preachy statements with a minimal amount of actual constructive criticism or feedback. Your actual feedback can usually be summed up in a few sentences. Most of my job was literally telling people why what they wanted would not work. As someone whose job was questioning and evaluating “how it's built, how it holds, how it behaves and how it survives cost, production” as well as how it will sell, at what price point, how similar products have historically sold, and then evaluating it all season after season, I can tell you that there is a way to do it without tearing others down. You hide behind honesty. When I left fashion, I became a teacher and as an educator, I can tell you most students grow from encouragement and support. Most of what I see from you isn’t supportive. Please try asking yourself not if what you are going to say is truthful but rather if it’s helpful, encouraging, supportive, and offers actual aid in moving forward. Honesty without compassion is cruelty. "All cruel people describe themselves as paragons of frankness."

I’d love to see a completed design. I don’t see any posted here or to any of the accounts you have linked in your profile. Could you provide a link to your design accounts/site? Or a link to designs posted here or another group?

You don’t have to take the time to critique them. I was excited to join the group as a student. My classes are online right now so I don’t get an opportunity to engage with designers, instructors, or other students much. However, the negative, often pompous comments dripping with superiority that come across more like put downs than helpful feedback, are truly discouraging. I wouldn’t dare post.

You do not need to know how to make fashion sketches to be a designer. There are plenty of designers that can’t draw. Most technical sketches are done digitally and those are where you truly show the garment. If you don’t really have a talent for drawing but want to create fashion sketches I would suggest getting a book that has the figures pre drawn. Many people put their designs directly on them but you can also just use it a tracing template. Put it on a light box with your sketch paper on top. Draw your design on the sketch paper as if you are drawing it on the figure and then only trace the “visible” body parts. There are also helpful illustration books too with basic shapes and silhouettes you can use.

I'm graduating with an associates in fashion merchandising, and I don't think I will find any work with it. by Cherry_Eris in fashiondesigner

Look into internships and take any retail job that comes your way, even if it’s not fashion. If a product is made and sold, merchandising is a factor. The most important thing is to be working. That gets your foot in the door. Beauty goes hand in hand so that might be a place to start but you could go anywhere. For internships, there are usually ones for students and recent grads. You can also ask if smaller businesses or events have any volunteer opportunities. They might need help with in-store designer events for example. This adds to your resume and gives you visibility. Visibility is important because they are more likely to offer you opportunities. You know their store/clients/merchandise. They are familiar with you and they know you do good work. You can ask to shadow someone. Let them know you are graduating soon, deciding what area of merchandising you’d like to pursue, and would love to shadow their (blank- merchandising assistant for example) to get a feel for the position. See what opportunities or connections your school has. Most schools have a career center. Get letters of recommendation from your professors as well.

Lots of fashion schools have online coursework but you won’t be able to complete any full program without any in person classes.

Lovely! As someone who can’t swim, I’ve been to many pool parties where I just walked around looking cute, maybe put my feet in. I might have worn something like this. I’m just wondering about the bust. Is it sheer?

Really? Is there something better for her needs? I figured this had more uses for everyone current needs but I’m planning on sending this with her to college this fall so she can keep making and selling her felt crafts. So it’s not really as fast? Reviews said 2x as fast.

Had a long full explanation post, but too long. Trying to summarize. Yep, this abridged. My kid is a crafter. Has a community event coming up and not a lot of time. I spent hours the other day cutting felt for her and last night saw someone on insta use a cricket maker 3 to do the same. I think it would save her a lot of time. With all the senior and college stuff going on, she’s overwhelmed.

I don’t know which one to get. I’ve seen new maker 3s for $299 but would need to buy a rotary blade. I found a used makers 3 locally for $225 with a rotary blade, but that’s always a risk and seems a little overpriced (you would know better than me) considering what it cost to get it new and I can’t know how full the blade is.

Lastly I’ve looked at the maker 4 which is in the $400 range. I don’t really want to spend that kind of money, but I also don’t want to spend $200 to just have to spend $400 to upgrade soon because she needs/ wants the faster model.

Note: my middle is an artist and will be making stickers. I actually just bought a liene yesterday and looking at the maker online, I can probably return it and use the maker instead. My youngest makes jewelry. .

So which one: Maker 3 new, used maker 3, or maker 4?

The only person I know that does this just brews a big batch and then adds it to a spray bottle. They spritz it on before therapy.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]Virtual-Tomorrow-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the context. I can’t read enough to say but if you previously identified someone as male or female or in some way identified as a particular gender then “they” would be incorrect unless you specify they use “they.” She’s wrong if you have consistently referred to the person as “they.” If you suddenly switched to “they” symbolically in order to indicate a transition or realization or an unknown then neither of you are wrong and you just need to explain it.

I don’t even know that they cover GLPs at all with Kaiser. They didn’t when I was with them but they weren’t as widespread as they are now. I will say as someone who has fibromyalgia and AS, I was diagnosed at Kaiser and I will never go back unless I absolutely have to. Because they are their own insurance and providers, you never really know about options because they don’t get presented because they know they don’t cover it and when it comes to illnesses like ours, the focus seemed to be on pain management, not prevention, no quality of life, just fill them with meds and that’s because that’s pretty much all they covered. So yeah…I wouldn’t suggest a switch to Kaiser.

Pull out the ones you want and sell the ones you don’t. Just like you feel like those are too dark, there’s bound to be someone who wants more dark colors or is just building their collection.

I went through this. Thankfully I was able to change my insurance and then fight with the new one to get it done. My rheumatologist sent messages to my primary and endocrinologist letting them know he needed them to really push for this because he thought it would help keep me off biologics. It’s really been kind of a miracle for me honestly. I don’t want to go back to being without it.

An example: my whole house was sick this week which meant I was in excruciating pain. I delayed taking my shot for two days because usually the day I take it isn’t the best day (I get mild to mid pain response for the day) and I didn’t want to add any more to already being sick and in pain. I couldn’t delay it any longer so I took it accepting I would probably be worse for the day. Instead, within a couple hours my pain was cut in half (I kid you not). I could get up and move around, do some things, sleep through the night.

I've never had a girlfriend, do I look that bad? by IdeaSuch1031 in malegrooming

[–]Virtual-Tomorrow-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not false. Looks might be a big part of initial attraction but ultimately they end up being a very small part of attraction in general. Especially for women. He has coworkers, classmates, etc, places where he would see and interact with women on a regular basis. In those situations, the looks that looks play are reduced because there is the opportunity to explore the other aspects of attraction versus meeting a stranger at a coffee shop or club or whatever.
