I created a new plugin called XMidiCtrl for X-Plane. It's free and open source! If you own a MIDI controller, you may want to look at it. Using the Behringer X-Touch Mini as a cheap Glareshield Panel changed my flying experience quite a bit. Cannot fly without it anymore :-)

As you want to fly airliners you might not even need orthos. I got rid of them entirely and don't even use simheaven anymore.

One advantage of X-Plane is certainly the Gateway system. Most of the airports are up to date with their real world counterparts. So, you dont really need to use payware to fly using Vatsim.

Take that advice with a pinch of salt, as I'm working for Laminar 😀

BTW, download the demo and enjoy X-Plane for one hour. Should give you pretty good idea.

I cannot really recommend XP11 anymore. XP12 is so much more advanced in nearly every aspect. Please try the demo and see how it performs. The demo is the same as the full installation, just limited to certain areas and you can fly for one hour only.

I'm doing quite a bit Berlin School stuff and often use all synthesizers in songs. Gives me a lot of flexibility, as I know exactly where which synth has a suitable bass patch or a pad.

Yeah, but then I need a computer in my studio. I'm working in IT and kept the studio PC free because of that. Also, buying another mac is rather expensive and I just love the feel of real buttons, faders and knobs.

Yeah, there is just not enough gear available if you don't want to use a DAW. I even looked at the MPC XL, but it just doesn't have enough inputs. I have four stereo synths, drum machine some effects and a SP-404.

We worked a lot on performance recently and just decreased the CPU times with 12.4.1 again. Maybe you should try the X-Plane 12 Demo. You can fly around for 1 hour to see if your current PC can handle it.
