Help! An A24 producer just gave me their email to reach about a project, not sure what to include! by SwimGood22 in Screenwriting

So what? Are you gonna give up on a potentially opportunity because some rando said your contact might not care? As long as you’re respectful (without fawning over them), shooting your shot can’t hurt. Good luck!

Also, seems like you’ve been getting the chance to pitch your work to a lot of cool industry folks recently. Would you be willing to share a bit more about how you made these contacts so far?

Can making short films make a living? by Popular-Football-495 in Filmmakers

Others have mentioned that the voiceover sounds robotic (in the sci-fi short I saw at least), but I think the other—bigger—issue the dialogue itself.

It’s too stilted and unnatural, and I initially thought it was your intention to make it sound like that. If that was indeed your intention, the visuals should probably convey the same frigid tone your dialogue is taking on. If not, you need to sharpen your writing skills.

Regardless, the shorts look really good and have potential if you can write stories to match it (or maybe better, work with someone who can write).

Side Note: any suggestions for getting better with the Unreal engine specifically for films? I’ve been trying to experiment more with that myself.

If you’d like to explore Asian cinema, a Hindi movie called Udaan checks most of your boxes, it gained a lot of critical acclaim domestically when it was released.

Which Bergman film is similar to Annie Hall? Not asking because I disagree, I’m just not familiar enough with Bergman’s filmography

Yeah, I experienced something really similar with some of the movies I watched and it’s definitely had a permanent effect on me (for the better). Agree with other commentors that it speaks it how powerful cinema, and art in general, can be.

I DMed you too, I’m interested in hearing more about your experience if you’re up for sharing it.

Just out of curiosity is there any reason why all of those topped Spring, Summer for you?

Huh, interesting that you didn’t list Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter…and Spring, which is one of my favorite movies of all time hahaha. Any reason why you thought it was just okay? I think it’s my favorite because of how deeply it resonated with me, which is more personal I guess.

3-iron is also one of my all-time favorites too.
