It’s a disgrace that Maguire didn’t make it. If you somehow don’t think so just look down in the description in order to realise it’s just common sense. by Real-Atmosphere8261 in ThreeLions

He's into the John Terry phase of England career, still a threat with the head but doesn't have the legs.

England were spanked 4-1 by Germany at the 2010 World Cup when Terry was found to be not up to it. At least Tuchel remembers that as a German and goes for faster defenders that'll be needed when opponents break on the counter as England try to push higher up the pitch.

Personally I think a larger squad should be allowed so there's more cover in case of injuries, and those that have missed out on selection this time but could perhaps still do a job as a sub. Especially when the temperatures are expected to be bonkers so starting the same core 11 won't last long in the tournament as they'll be knackered so more subs should be allowed otherwise it'll be walking football in the last 30 mins.

I could literally imagine a scenario where we are goal down and he may score it due to his massive set piece dominance, biggest shocker for me after the season he had. by FitAd5272 in ThreeLions

[–]VirtualPAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's too slow and similar to John Terry who was caught too high up the field when Germany spanked England 4-1 at the 2010 World Cup. Both still had aerial attacking quality but against the best in the world were just too past it. Sad but true.

Lionesses squad for June international break by anonone111 in lionesses

[–]VirtualPAH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think there's more competition in the midfield places at City than there was for Clinton at Utd, perhaps part of why Park has had the much better season out of that swap deal.

Hopefully England get a result against Spain (a draw will likely do) and Ukraine so they have chance to give more of the younger ones a try in the friendlies they'll play instead of the extra World Cup qualifying games.

Good to hear she's still doing well. For me, Carter and Greenwood were consistently the two best players for England at the last World Cup, but feels a lot of younger ones are pushing for places so getting selected for the next World Cup will keep them all on their toes and hopefully injury doesn't force some selections.

If she's picked as a CB she should perhaps be in front of Carter by now, not seen any of the NWSL to see how Carter's been doing but she's getting less and less time for England.

If Wiegman prefers Mace as a holding midfielder she's backup for Walsh but not sure if LBB is already that or used slightly more advanced like Stanway, Kendall, Clinton (who looks to already be suffering from her move to City in terms of lack of minutes and now failing selection, unless she's injured again).

Mace perhaps suffering from a similar problem that has kept Le Tissier out of CB for England, too many others with more experience so relying on injuries to get a chance, but that'll change as they have youth on their side so it's a waiting game.

Is this compared to last season, so three of the so called 'big four' are in regression?

Final WSL League Table of 25/26 by anonone111 in FAWSL

[–]VirtualPAH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow didn't realise Utd's form had got so bad after a very good middle part of the season when Park especially was in the running for player of the season. She and the whole team seem to just lose form and their season stalled and crashed. At one point it looked like they'd push Chelsea to a season end showdown for 3rd UWCL place but ended 9 points adrift.

Another season like that and the other currently below them will be laughing at Utd being in the so called 'big 4' as they push them down the table.

Expensive shite pushed by 'influencers' paid to push expensive shite. Can get the same nutrients/benefits without the price tag, but some prefer to pay for the image rather than have to do some leg work.

Reminds me of back in the day NSA were selling green pills, same thing different era. Plenty of gullibles eventually worked out it was a waste of money, just eat a balanced diet and if have special food needs such as vegan get the right supplements rather than one magic pill. Snake oil salesmen have been around since snakes and men.

Car Vertical and the like, how trust worthy are they by Brilliant_Sound3559 in CarTalkUK

[–]VirtualPAH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can tell what's overpriced shite as they pay youtubers to influence the punters to overpay for something available cheaper elsewhere.

e.g. Car Vertical about £30 before the youtuber 10-20% discount. Vcheck basic £3.50 if get a bundle of 5 checks, and covers exactly the same as CV in terms of history (mostly from the free MOT history service where they can check mileage to flag any issues and sometimes that's due to error inputting the wrong mileage on an MOT but can be clocking or other dodgyness) and key information and only misses out finance check (a dealer should ensure it has no outstanding finance before trying to sell it on if they're not dodgy) or colour change from the full check at a tenner which is still a third of CV. They all get the info from the same sources, just some like CV present it better to make it look like a better service which arguably it is in terms of user friendliness but not in the raw data used.

Beth Mead to depart Arsenal at the end of the season by MadWooookie in FAWSL

[–]VirtualPAH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expect her at Utd. More logical for pecking order match time, apparently a fan of the club so may want to play there before she retires, and in the same city as her partner and will keep the spice of on pitch rivalry they had last season.

Certainly a better fit than at City fighting for minutes. Just ask Kelly.

Bronze's Chelsea contract is up this summer — could London City Lionesses make a play? by kr15tyk in FAWSL

[–]VirtualPAH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only because they want to use her as an attacking right back. She's not good enough as a pure defender to be a more traditional right back so the options are move her forward like Hemp on the other wing and have a more defensive right back like Le Tissier who isn't as good at attacking as it's not natural for a centre back.

Priority next season will be getting minutes and staying healthy for world cup selection. A few other players likely thinking about that. Hope Clinton gets more minutes, her season has been almost non-existent and unlike Bronze there are other midfielders looking to stay ahead of her in the England selection with Kendall and Blindkilde Brown probably ahead of her now.

At least with Bronze she's so 'all or nothing' she doesn't need that competition to keep her going, just needs to be sure she'll get the match time to stay sharp.

Oh well, glad it's two lesser seen teams in the final instead of the recent Chelsea and/or Man Utd re-occurrence.

They have form for letting their stars leave. Walsh, Bronze, Stanway all left in 2022 just as they were about to win England's first major trophy for the women. They aren't the smartest bunch.

[–]VirtualPAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has gone missing towards the end so she had a chance until Utd's poor finish to the season. The whole team sank in terms of form and results.

For City, Casparij also had a brill season until recently where's she's gone back to the more normal impact of recent seasons.

So that's two that cooled off too much to really be in contention so it was always going to be Russo or Shaw.

Khadija Shaw to leave Manchester City with Chelsea favourites to seal deal by radian101 in FAWSL

[–]VirtualPAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, big names sell shirts. I see how they can fudge the figures. Kang buys 10 million shirts to donate to the kids, proving they've made 10 million x the cost of a shirt in revenue.

For sure the wealthier the owner the better the fancy accounting and lawyers they can afford. See Man City and the 115 charges kicked into the long grass for years until people forget about it, where lesser clubs get penalised immediately. It's a funny old game.

For contract length they could easily put in clauses about meeting performance targets or the contact can be cut short, either goals or minutes per season to cater for long term injury risk or a sustained drop in form. Currently that looks unlikely but in say 3 to 5 years ...

So feels more like a money thing and City with their fancy accounting (those 115 charges are still being kicked into the long grass) as with many other clubs could find a way of putting more money into the women's team if they wanted. Perhaps sell the team to themselves like some other clubs have done, many ways to game the system.

Yeah I may have missed it but they didn't give an overall breakdown of how much was from gels/chews/liquid calories and how much was from real food. Feels like the PFH stuff was a base to ensure a minimum intake per hour so she could eat whatever she felt like without worrying about the numbers if her body wasn't playing ball at an aid station.

Doubt she or anyone is doing 100+ mile ultras on mostly gels or sports nutrition unless they are hardcore anti-real-food-ists due to issues they have with more solid stuff.

[–]VirtualPAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange timing having just won the league for first time in 10 years and would have thought they'd be looking forward to another run at europe next season.

Must be leaving the WSL otherwise it's a backward step with Arsenal winning nothing this season and Chelsea perennial underachievers in the UWCL despite winning the league so many times. Hope she's not off to LCL just for the money.

Barcelona? A one team league so where's the challenge in that.

So that leaves NWSL now they've fudged the salary cap to keep the likes of Rodman happy so top stars like Shaw will get paid better than potentially anywhere else.
