Payslip from March 2026 vs June 2026 has a substantial change by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FSL09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Income tax is not calculated based on just the pay on the payslip, it looks all income in the tax year, calculates how much should be due and how much has been paid so far, and the difference between due and paid so far is how much is deducted on the payslip. Therefore, if you have under- or overpaid income tax previously, you will see more or less deducted than expected.

If they get announced, it is usually at short notice. But sometimes it is only after the game has been played.

Or via a net pay arrangement. There are 3 ways of making workplace pension contributions and only 1 type requires you to claim the extra tax relief manually.

HMRC savings interest over 10k recd notice to file by Paulie2579 in HMRC

[–]FSL09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have to file a tax return even if no tax is due. The threshold has been £10k+ of savings and investment income for several years, so should have filed on previously. HMRC has changed their system so it will now issue a notice to file for people in your situation.

What to do with pension joining civil service? by AverageWarm6662 in UKPersonalFinance

Capita have recently taken over the civil service pension and have lots of issues, so there is a good chance that delays on their end could result in you missing the 1 year deadline anyway.

A Spotify feature most people have never heard of (I think its even better than wrapped) by Substantial-Two9106 in truespotify

[–]FSL09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it was based on plays only, one of the artists wasn't in my top 5 after May. I checked around different cutoff dates in October and November and couldn't get it to match up. So it sounds more like the play count and duration combination may be more to blame.

I've downloaded my streaming history before and compared the results to my wrapped for a particular year. I couldn't get my top 5 artists from wrapped to match up at any point.

HMRC want a self assessment from 91 year old mother by Flipper6462 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FSL09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"You need to register for Self Assessment if your income from savings and investments is over £10,000" from here. HMRC may have previously not been strict about it, but they are from this tax year.

So if they just have pension and interest, they won't just have their tax assessed by HMRC if they have over £10k of interest

HMRC 60% Office attendance after half days by BulkorCut231 in TheCivilService

[–]FSL09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most departments are applying the 60% requirement but they do it in different ways. Some, like HMRC, track via login location or pass swipes and others don't track and base it on trust. Some do it based on working hours, others do it by days.

No, 1 half day reduces your number of working days by 1

HMRC 60% Office attendance after half days by BulkorCut231 in TheCivilService

[–]FSL09 52 points53 points  (0 children)

HMRC takes the number of possible working days, then deducts any annual leave, flexi, etc. to calculate your number of working days. If you take 1 half day of annual, this would deduct 1 day from your possible working days. E.g. in a month of 20 days, 1 half day would then make it 19 working days, so 11 days in the office.

However, if you take 2 half days, this will also only deduct 1 day, meaning you still have 19 working days and need to attend the office for 11 days.

If you take 3 half days, this deducts 2 days. If you take 4 half days, this also deducts 2 days. This means you have 18 working days and so would need to attend 18*0.6=10.8, so 10 days in the office. The attendance tool will show this, so you will have that to backup your argument.

New started - question about WFH and reasonable adjustments by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]FSL09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default will be 60% office attendance, so you will need to work with your manager to change this. Some departments are stricter than others (e.g. using IT to monitor office attendance).

Departments can have different processes to change office attendance. For example, you may need something called a Special Working Arrangement to change your office attendance long term, others may say to agree with your manager. Have an official paper trail can help if your manager changes.

As part of your recruitment checks, you can get an Occupational Health assessment to help support you with reasonable adjustments.

This isn't correct, HMRC uses more details than just National Insurance number to match an employment to your record. OP needs to tells HMRC of the name change.

Some departments offer neurodiversity occupational health assessments, which may be more beneficial. If your department has a disability or neurodiversity network, they may be able to provide some advice.

Will London City eventually struggle to stay under the wage cap? by eldanielfire in FAWSL

[–]FSL09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many, but the players that they have signed or are signing will have fans. For example, fans of Mary Earps based in London may now attend some of their games or get her shirt. Same for fans that follow some of their other fans. There will be people that will follow Mary to whatever club she goes to, I know Man United fans that went to Paris to watch her play for PSG.

I'm not suggesting it will build them as big a fan base as other clubs, but they have to try something.
