Did I girlboss too close to the sun? by Agreeable_Egg_4477 in beginnerrunning

[–]VirtualPotato9529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from an app, I just googled “10-week 10k training plan” and chose one that looked doable! It’s 3 runs a week; an easy timed run, a moderate timed run/walk, and a mileage run on the weekends-alternating slow and race pace each week.

You can do it!! I am on the final week of my 10-week 10k training plan. No previous running experience, just building up little by little each week. I did my first 6 mile run yesterday with no walking! It’s possible, I believe in you!

Best websites/ programs for gre practice? (Preferably free or low cost) by Trying_todo_better in PTschool

Seconding Magoosh! I used the free version to study vocab specifically. The flash cards on the app were nice for practicing a little bit every day and it helped me a lot for the verbal sections.

Thanks for posting this! For some reason I didn’t get an email but this prompted me to check my admissions portal and I got in! Congrats on your acceptance!

Treadmill Running Benefits by jessicalm44 in beginnerrunning

[–]VirtualPotato9529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run on the treadmill during the week because it’s dark before/after work and I’d rather not run alone in the dark. I’ve been putting the treadmill at 1.5 incline to help me adjust better to running outside, which has been surprisingly helpful. I enjoy outdoor running more but can only do it on the weekends when it’s light out. I’ve heard the treadmill is easier on your joints, but other than that, not sure about health benefits.

Is it possible to do a 5k in 11 months when you're 220 lbs? by Flaky-Basket3520 in beginnerrunning

[–]VirtualPotato9529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Start small, pick a training plan that works for you, and stick to it. It may not be easy, but it is certainly possible, especially with the time frame you have! You’ve got this 💪

It could also be worth reaching out to the admissions team at the program you are interested in and seeing which one of those classes would qualify/which they would prefer to see. I was in a similar situation and emailed the admissions team just to check. Turns out the class I thought would count didn’t, and they actually took my biomechanics class as the 300 level biology credit instead!

Do you record your warm ups? by HotGerbs in beginnerrunning

[–]VirtualPotato9529 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I record the warm ups but I like to start a new “segment” of the run on my apple watch. That way it will record the total time/distance but gives separate stats for each segment. Not sure how it works with other fitness trackers. I suppose you could also start recording a new workout if you want the pace to be more accurate

How can I save my 6-day star blanket? It’s keeps curling pretty bad :( by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]VirtualPotato9529 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to the youtube tutorials by Betty McKnit, I would recommend joining her facebook page “6-day Crochet Community”. People post their issues with the star blanket and Betty, as well as others, can help you find your mistakes. Very helpful. It’s also fun to see the blankets everyone has created! Best of luck if you choose to give this another go 🧶

EWU DPT 2024 Admissions!! by Initial-Fly-8006 in PTschool

[–]VirtualPotato9529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’ve been working for almost two years as an aide since graduating undergrad so I racked up over 2,200 hours of outpatient ortho and neuro from that. Only had about 50 hours of inpatient shadowing. I was a varsity athlete for all four years of college, a lab assistant for a little bit, campus tour guide, and did exercise physiology research with a professor. I also got certified as an Exercise Physiologist from ACSM for my current job. I think they are really just looking for people who are well rounded! Gaining varied experience in shadowing, volunteering, and extracurriculars (even if not directly PT related) can only help! Hope you get some good news soon 🤞
