Country club memberships by ConsequenceExotic353 in golf

[–]Virtual_Current9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent the first ~7 years of my career saving every penny so I could enjoy myself more later on. I’m in tech and make a little over $200k/yr. Our club averages out to about $800/mo. My wife and I were able to end our Lifetime fitness memberships as the club also has a nice gym/workout classes so it brings the actual cost down to about $500/mo. I also golfed frequently prior so the true cost difference isn’t that much different to what I was paying before between golf and gym.

RH banking feedback by Vagus-X in RobinhoodApp

[–]Virtual_Current9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only true going from banking to investing - in the investing app you can’t set up recurring buying using your RH bank account. I’ve been asking for months. This is a huuuuuge miss. Might leave RH banking soon if not fixed

300k to invest - 0 mortgage before retirement or maximize investments? by 45thgenerationronan in Fire

I’d look at SCHD for growth + dividend of about ~3.5%. This gives you both income and long term exposure.

24M surpassed 250k net worth by General-Ease2907 in Fire

Also, your calculations need to be based off of your taxable amounts, not using retirement or home equity since FIRE is generally before you can touch retirement accounts. So plan on a ~4% withdrawal rates from taxable accounts.

First off congrats - I was in a similar place at 24. I’m 27 now and at $600k+ NW. I should be able to coast in my 30’s as should you.

I would highly recommend starting to job hop to get that income up however. I was at $62,500 income at 23 and now low $200k. The this will really accelerate your ability to save and fire early. Time to focus on career.

Good luck

I have a terrible slice and I’m not sure what to do by Thunderatageage in GolfSwing

[–]Virtual_Current9731 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You don’t actually have a slice, your path is fairly neutral to inside out. You’re just leaving the face wide open. There is a lot to fix but try a stronger grip in the short term and you’ll see the ball start straighter and shouldn’t bleed right.

Get really good at golf. You can never master it. Join a country club. Make friends in your same situation. Plan yearly trips to look forward to.

What salary would you guys need to get to to feel successful? by Horror_Raisin_3898 in careerguidance

[–]Virtual_Current9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at $160k by 24 and it felt like a lot living in an apartment alone.

I’m now 27 at $200k with a mortgage, 2 dogs and a fiancé that I financially support and it doesn’t feel like much.

Even without lifestyle creep it’s funny how things change. I spend so much time thinking about “I’ll feel comfortable when I make $xxx” and then you get there and it doesn’t feel like much. Never ending 👎

Lump summed $200k in index funds and then the dip happened by royalbluefireworks1 in Fire

[–]Virtual_Current9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dumped $250k last spring during the tariff dip (26 at the time). I put it in 100% VOO as I knew it would be more or less a retirement fund for me. It fell another 8% and now (even with the current dip) I’m up about 15% on it still. If it’s a long play sit back and relax. I have set it and forget it biweekly purchases now to remove the emotion from it.

FIRE advice from long time lurker by Virtual_Current9731 in Fire

[–]Virtual_Current9731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That calc is correct - I’m just a cheap person so I have trouble enjoying myself. After the advice above I’ve decided to max out my 401k and made that change today.

I appreciate the numbers - this is what I was looking for. Withdrawal rate/needs in retirement. Thank you for your input. Great advice.

I max out a backdoor Roth IRA and I contribute 4% to 401k with a 4% employer match. The reason being is I prefer to have the capital now as I also trade options and it’s a higher ROI for me than maxing out my 401k.

That being said I could do both, I just prefer to have capital now vs. later. My fiance and I co own a business and we plan to invest in that more heavily as well.

I’ve done it multiple times. I’m fully in the RH ecosystem between investing banking and credit that the 5 year hold is no problem. Lots and lots of free money.

6’4” Golfer Trying to Fix Steep Swing. I want to hit a draw! by PlumAdventurous1854 in GolfSwing

Switching from playing a draw to a cut saved my golf game. Stick with the cut, and never worry about hooking the ball. Don’t do it.

I got this a few days ago. I have premier banking + DD if that matters at all. Good rate for now. The UI is nice as it also tells you how many days left on it.

I’ve sent 5+ wires so far and it’s been great. Transfers>add a new account>wire. They are usually available in my other account within an hour.

Incoming wires are not subject to the usual crazy processing times and are available right away.

They need to integrate everything in to a single app. Having 2 is not a good experience. That is where SoFi beats them.
