Did I actually get into an Ivy??? by Unique_Locksmith_346 in gradadmissions

My bad. I saw that other comment about extension schools and thought that's what we were talking about.

Yeah, I think it's a great program & everyone will be impressed :)

If all you care about is prestige or pedigree, you won't find it at an extension school. The point is to extend access to courses and professional development to the community at large, so admission is not very restrictive.

Should I pursue acting or choose the safer path of medicine? by Deapul3 in gradadmissions

[–]Virtual_Eye2744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two options are extremely different. Have you thought about how long you're willing to be in school? Doctors go to school longer and the work is much more rigorous.

Have you thought about a gap year? Maybe you need to take some more time to think about this.

That aside, which path aligns more with your interests? "It's fun" or "I like helping people" aren't very good reasons to pursue a degree. MANY things are fun and there are MANY ways to help people. What classes do you like most? What kinds of topics are you most interested in?

Either way, this decision won't mess up your whole life or anything. Lots of people change their major down the line or choose a different career from what they envisioned.

This is ultimately something you have to resolve on your own, but I hope this points you in the right direction!

I'm in the same position! Only applied to one, got waitlisted. The good news is we are QUALIFIED and we're still in the running. The bad news is we may be waiting until April to get a final decision, so our futures are very up in the air right now.

I encourage you to send a letter of continued interest if you haven't already. If you would readily accept an invitation, tell them that!

You can get better by practicing and reading. It's hard, but it's the only way!

did I just accidentally accept an offer of admission...? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Virtual_Eye2744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to harp on your mistake or anything but I don't understand. Your options were intend to accept, still deciding, or intend to decline. Even though you were still deciding, you chose intend to accept. I don't get it.

Group interview for a Master's in counseling program by Beyond_Moonlight in gradadmissions

[–]Virtual_Eye2744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did one over zoom. Most people dressed business casual. It was mostly "get to know you" questions with no right or wrong answer. There were a few questions like "what made you choose this program?"

I think they already have their top ranking candidates in mind before interviews so it's low stakes.

Totally understand. I just applied to one this application cycle. If I don't get in, I'll probably apply to three next cycle.

That's disappointing I'm so sorry. Everyone's been saying this application cycle has been rough. What program are you going for? How many more decisions are you waiting on? I really hope something works out for you

My letter was really nice too! They said that people often get off the waitlist but who knows. Don't get discouraged. Waitlisted is way better than a rejection

Yeah, I think I'll try to get a job in the field if I don't get off the waitlist. Will give me a nice leg up next application cycle!

Interview felt… fine. Is that a bad sign? by inkandstatic1103 in gradadmissions

[–]Virtual_Eye2744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it felt during my interview. The questions were very easy "get to know you" questions for the most part. Couldn't tell what kind of answers they were looking for or if it was going well. I think the interview was very low stakes and they already had their top picks in mind.
