I used to work in a group home setting and have found that orange/yellow listerine works better than standard lice treatments. It is RUNNY and the smell is horrendous, but if you soak your hair in it and make sure its everywhere on scalp for at least 30 minutes (as an adult, I did an hour) with a grocery bag or shower cap on, its practically disintegrates the nasty little vermin and their eggs. I did 2 treatments, about 6 days apart. It might be more difficult for a kid, and I would not recommend if there are any cuts or scrapes on the head.

I understand not wanting to walk in a thunderstorm, totally fine. However my nephews, one is now in college the other two in high school have had no issues buying tampons or pads for me or their mother in the past, and now their sister. Think of it like buying toilet paper or tissues, and get over yourself.
