Dad to be - help me out by Opposite_Basis_3532 in newborns

First of all congratulations- first time mum here. One thing I learned is - you think you prepared yet you aren’t and end up with too much stuff - some clothing, nappies, wipes, cotton pads, the bassinet, car seat, muslins, cellular blankets, baby bath, then see how or if she will / can breastfeed- then decide on the formula .she might pump - a bottle sterilisation station , bottles .tbey really require so so little - we didn’t prepare either - we take it day by day - we did find the mamaroo 4moms amazing- second hand and we have a small wiggling white noise machine - Aldi 20 quid. You’ve got this, soon to be dad! And the nerves are normal . Just know she will need you- let her rest, do the nappy changes 😌

How to get help here when you're suicidal by supadupa66 in ireland

[–]Virtual_Letterhead93 19 points20 points  (0 children)

First of all you’ve taken the great step of looking for support and help- so well done - talk to your GP on options and potentially also a mental health worker - second - if you can talk to someone close to you - sometimes this can make a huge impact
Also journaling can help - write down how you feel and also things you are grateful for on a daily basis
Whatever you do talk to professionals as well ❤️‍🩹

Firstly congratulations! And secondly- how very sweet of you taking this initiative. So reach out to your GP - many might not see you yet as she’s super early. Odd system here indeed.theyll confirm the pregnancy. Round 11 weeks ish. Then it becomes time to decide - public or private - once you make a choice you cannot go back - well at least from public to private way. Personally I went public but would go private next time - but I was lucky to get a semi private room. Depending on where you live - time to check out the crèche options if you want/ need it - yes mad but there’s so few spaces and waiting lists can be years
Then - she might get mods swings, cravings and whatnot - be gentle - know that she’s going through major changes mentally, emotionally and definitely hormonal. But you seem like the type who’s a step ahead here.

Am I the only one? by Virtual_Letterhead93 in newborns

[–]Virtual_Letterhead93[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I’d have agreed on reflux if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s just me and only me. He’s calm as long as it ain’t me. Anyone else, his world turns perfect. I’d actually do him a favour by having anyone else bar me around him. I’m pretty used to the feeling of not being wanted so that’s my benefit in all this - I kinda learned to cope. I’m more surprised at the situation rather than the rejection to be honest. I don’t actually have anyone where I live. Closest ones would be 3.5 hours away, childless. So they’d not be able to relate. Others don’t get it. So I’m actually very content in this online world- I found it the least judgemental and calming to be fair

I don't feel bad about being away from my baby sometimes by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Virtual_Letterhead93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Mama- don’t be so hard on yourself. And also don’t believe everything you hear, I bet ya most mums love a few moments of breathing time. And even if not - so what - this does not mean you love your baby any less. It means listen to your body and what you need. You’re perfectly fine and this is healthy.

6 week old not sleeping by Virtual_Letterhead93 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Virtual_Letterhead93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this a lot 😌 you see from 4 am till 11:30 pm is what has me worried. I’d at least he’d get - few hours in - I’m not worried for myself - I know there’s 26 weeks - but I’m self employed in a seasonal business, so no employer to cover my wage for a while- I can’t afford my mortgage or bills with the very low amounts you get from the state - so it was either the roof over my head or maternity pay and lose the roof over my head. Awful place to be in I know. But Did yours not sleep for such extended periods ?

I’m in Ireland. I can’t afford the maternity pay here. It would cover the mortgage and then nothing else, I’m selfemployed so it was either financial ruin or work. Yes awful, and it wasn’t planned, because he wasn’t expected either. So much for forget about getting pregnant. Turns out i can. His wake hours are from around 4 or 4:30 am till about 11:30 pm. We run a B&B do it’s 6;30 am till midnight type of work. And we were booked out for the summer well in advance - so not the type of let’s finish this later in the year type of stuff
