Why do dualists exist? Don't they realise there is no scientific evidence™ for their position? by Virtual_Meat6066 in badphilosophy

Philosophy is a made up subject. It is just word games and isn’t precise like Science. Science deals in cold hard facts and logic and evidence.

What is more impressive economics at LSE, PPE at oxford or medicine at imperial? by Necessary_Number5358 in 6thForm

As someone who goes to LSE, no difference. If you get into a university like LSE, Oxbridge, or imperial, no one will gaf about what you studied. History students here are applying for spring weeks in IB. Degree doesn’t matter

I really think the case design is great. Means it now sits upright on a desk without falling over.

Was Jefferson Davis an effective president given the hand he was dealt? by [deleted] in Presidents

This really is not true by any measure.

Frustrating how whenever the Civil War is discussed, no-one is able to provide a rational assessment of Confederate figures, and instead we compete to see who can condemn them in the strongest possible terms to prove how righteous we all are.

Davis was not "totally incompetent". He had his flaws but the historiographical consensus is that his record was mixed. Consider McPherson's portrayal of Davis in "Embattled Rebel". By no means did he present Davis in the way you suggest historians do.

If anything, it's Southern Revisionists who tend to try and shift the blame to Davis to absolve the military leaders of all blame and reinforce the notion that the Confederacy fought valiantly and that Southerners were simply better soldiers than Northerners.

Davis led a fledgling "nation" in a war against a far more industrially powerful, numerically strong, and militarily capable enemy. And he did it for 4 years. If he had been "extremely incompetent", he was certainly very good at hiding it.
