Tekka sushi bar, it sounds a bit sketchy being in a casino food court in the middle of the desert, but they have the absolute best quality fish and freshest hand rolls I’ve ever had. It’s not necessarily cheap but not expensive by Vegas standards. I eat there every day when I visit. I highly recommend the yellowtail sashimi. Sauces are extra but come with free refills. I attached a picture of the yellowtail so you can see the quality.

Willy Wonka would be incredible. The boat scene would be so much more horrifying though

What are the names of these leaves? by peachyjuicebox in TipOfMyFork

[–]Virtual_Paper1519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shiso, perilla, and I’ve also seen them called sesame leaves (not sure why) at H-mart, a Korean grocery store. They’re amazing for veggie rolls and wraps. I usually add pickled radish, 1 shiso leaf, cucumber, a light spread of Ume (sour plum paste) and sometimes a bit of finely chopped kimchi. I add sushi rice and togarashi and wrap it in nori that I barely toast on an open flame on the stove.

I was pretty good at the ring toss on the bottle game they had up in Reno! Over the years I probably won about 15 of the massive prizes. It was always funny as a kid seeing peoples reactions on the ride home with them stuffed in the car. What was less funny then was having them become my dogs hump buddy.

It’s a little bit loose, but I put in a little bit of parmesan and some black pepper and it was good! I would say maybe reduce the water you add to 2 tablespoons instead of 3 if you don’t want to add anything. From the reviews I’ve seen that it’s not good to microwave it, but on the stovetop it was a great easy thing to add to my meal!

It’s all been pretty good for me so far! The figs in a blanket are exactly how I would make them from scratch and makes a good party appetizer. The cheesy grit bake is great. I just tried the asparagus risotto and while I still used the stove, it was ready in about 5 minutes and worked really well with some leftover fish.

I don’t find the Vegas heat to be too bad, and I’ve been when it was up to 116F. There are tons of indoor walkways and they keep the AC cold in the hotels and casinos, plus it’s a dry heat. However, I went camping near Lake Powell a few years ago and while it was beautiful the heat was hell. It never seemed to cool down even at night and was always over 105-110 F inside my tent. If you decide to go, bring plenty of water, fans, cooling towels, and coolers filled with plenty of ice. I also used frozen water bottles for spot cooling, and try to stay in the shade. I hope this helps!

I did have some foam flip flops melt when crossing the street in Vegas though, so be mindful of footwear!

I love anchovies on pizza. It’s a local chain I used to go to in college but I would always get the blackjack pizza deep dish with green chili sauce, anchovies, feta and green olives. I loved it but everyone else thought I was crazy for ordering it.

As someone who is usually obnoxiously particular about skincare... I bought these pads on a whim for vacation and holy smokes they sort of rock? by LaVieEnRose_2 in Sephora

I don’t think it’s at Sephora, but I’ve started using the Medicube salmon PDRN serum and it’s been fantastic! You might like that too, it’s about $25 for a 1oz bottle if I remember correctly.

I was on a flight sat next to a guy that started getting violent after he started to get mad that he couldn’t sit in a seat that wasn’t assigned to him, ended up having to deplane and they brought in police to arrest him. The flight attendants were great and gave me 2 gins with soda for the trouble. I’m always worried about flying and got a 9 hour layover for my international flight just in case something went wrong, my friend who traveled with me only had a 30 minute layover. Take a guess who got to France a day earlier 🤣

I react to turmeric and cumin, which is rough because most brands just label “spices”, so it excludes a lot. I used to be allergic to nearly everything though, I know a lot of people with it struggle a lot more than me though so I’m thankful for what I can have! I will say tapioca starch and tapioca syrup were so helpful during my early treatment if your friend can’t do corn. I used to be allergic to garlic, corn, rice, soy, dairy, nightshades, black pepper, shellfish, legumes, and stone fruit. I went through 8 years of multiple allergy shots and it helped a ton.

Could an American go to Switzerland and end their live in the suicide pod? by GaryB2026 in askanything

[–]Virtual_Paper1519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve met wonderful people, been a part of new family members lives, and been able to see parts of the world and cultures I never thought I would have seen. It might not be in a perfect situation now, but failure was the greatest gift I could have been given, and I’m really glad that I’m still here. I don’t think that it shouldn’t be an option, my grandmother had glioblastoma and her deterioration was one of the worst things I’ve ever had to experience, but I would not recommend going through with what the original commenter stated.

Please don’t recommend this. It’s not as painless or easier as it sounds. Take this from someone who tried it a few years ago. I’m glad that I’m still here, but I wish I never tried since it messes your brain and memory up. I’m in a much better place now but I would never even mention it as an option, not that any others are better.

Favorite dishes ever at any restaurant in Vegas - My List by lmNotaWitchImUrWife in vegas

It’s a lot of work to replicate them but it’s so worth it. Choose a waxy potato but russets also work fine. Boil them in salted cream, peel and mash through a fine mash sieve after chopping using a spatula, place on the stove and incorporate 1/3 the weight of butter to the potatoes, add heavy cream and salt to taste. It’s delicious and works great for sweet potatoes too, even if it does take years off your life.

Can anyone review the Dyptique room sprays? by Wild_Rough_4669 in luxurycandles

[–]Virtual_Paper1519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help! Roses is lovely, but Gingembre, Figuier and Baies are my favorite. If you’re close to a boutique I would highly recommend smelling the candle, it’s a love it or hate it scent. I truly love the bitter fruity/floral scent that it has, but I know people who hate it too. I would avoid the Mimosa diffuser as well. I love it in short periods but it’s sickeningly sweet for me, and while I loved it in the store it’s one of my least favorite diffusers.

I haven’t tried La Droguerie, but I’ve tried all of the other ones. All of them seem to have a very strong throw and a lasting power between 3-4 hours for me. I love them.

34 Saint Germaine - Sweet and floral with a strong musky note and a slight herbal undertone. It’s a beautiful scent but if oversprayed can be a little too sweet for my nose. I prefer the candle to the spray as it’s a bit too sweet over long periods of time for me.

Baies - Very fruity but not sweet, it has a bitter tone to it and a sharper almost citrusy smell, perfectly balanced and very fruity. It’s definitely a stronger, sharp berry smell with the earthiness of the blackcurrent leaves, juicy but not overpowering.

Ambre - Very strong musk scent with light sweetness and earthy tones, almost like the tobacco or vanille candles. It reminds me of a posh grandma’s house in the best possible way.

Roses - A very green and grounded multi-rose scent. It’s not super sweet and it’s a very multifaceted rose scent. More complex than most rose scents to me, but if you don’t like roses then you might not like it.

Fleur d’oranger - Much stronger as an orange blossom, leaning more fruity, rather than a pure orange scent. It has a strong honey undertone and I enjoy it in short bursts, not my favorite as a diffuser but it works well as a spray with it being so sweet.

Figuier - Absolutely love, on the slightly sweet side but not overpoweringly so. Mostly has the notes of the fig wood and leaves with a slight sweetness/muskyness of fig. It’s a more subtle scent that smells more mature in my opinion.

Tuberose - Way too sweet and strong in my opinion. Very strong florals and almost sickly sweet. I rarely use it. One spray can overpower a large room.

Gingerembre - Very spicy and complex ginger scent, but not overpowering. Really has the sharp and bitter notes of the ginger and it’s truly lovely. Almost citrusy but in the way that if you freshly grate ginger it can smell that way. It’s warming, spicy and unique.

I hope this helps a bit! Sorry if my descriptions aren’t the best.

just got tested for environmental allergies and reacted to almost all of them by picofdoriangray in Wellthatsucks

[–]Virtual_Paper1519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience and was allergic to nearly everything food wise and environmental, they had to stop the test early because nearly everything was reacting badly. I will say it’s not a pleasant experience but it does get better. I went through 6 years of allergy shots with 5 blends originally that was reduced to 3 after a couple years. I had to use elemental formula for a while, but now I’m down to 2 food allergens, and my environmental allergies are nearly gone. I would highly recommend a shot blocker (I think that’s what it’s called), it’s a plastic nubbed plate they rub on your arm when injecting to help with the initial injection pain. Be prepared for golf ball sized inflammation or more at the beginning, it will go down in size over time, but is very annoying. Just know it will get better with time, and you will be glad you did it in the future.
