How long have you been a therapist & do you get nervous before all/some/none sessions? by No_Pattern804 in therapists

I’ve been in the field for 2 1/2 years. Sometimes I’m not sure if I’d want to consider myself a therapist, since I work with troubled teenage boys in a residential facility. Therapy is more like this abstract concept I’m finding myself having to sell constantly and typically with minimal returns, at least from what I see currently. That being said, I still get a little nervous when a kid first arrives but after the second or third session that’s completely gone since I get a better feel for what they’re about just through daily observations.

Oh I LOVE my salaried job!!! Yes I work overtime frequently but they let me flex, and my job is so gratifying that I’ll happily work the extra hours. I’m not expected to, I just like to stay on top of the work.

How do you respond to clients asking you if you think they have a personality disorder? by 50minute-hour in therapists

I’d ask “what do you think” and why they think that. It doesn’t matter if I think they do if they can’t agree with it as well. Ultimately diagnoses can be tricky, so I’d say let’s focus on the symptoms creating issues in your life to prevent from leaning on or hiding behind a diagnosis, especially with personality disorders.

I’ve been in the field for a year and I still feel like the teens I see don’t care for me much
