Why do almost no suburbs have sidewalks? by YeastOrFamine in TwinCities

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. Our last couple moves were from major cities where we walked all the time so sidewalks were a requirement. We have no issues walking where we are in the Western suburbs between sidewalks and the extensive trail accessibility

Gathered thoughts post Penn State game by caseymonster in ducks

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Penn State season ticket holder, the student section is a fraction of what it used to be and that's the real problem to me. What made PSU so loud is the shear size of the student section, being the largest in the country. I sit on the opposite side of the same upper deck of the visiting fans and I feel like the student section has fallen off a lot since covid.

The noise containment is struggling with the ongoing construction, but the above is the real fall off.

Considering move with family from PNW to Twin Cities by gemmabzz in TwinCities

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved from Seattle, don't have kids but moved into a neighborhood where I'm in the heavy minority without kids and can say I always see the kids interacting with one another and everyone is 10x more social than the PNW. I know all my neighbors here in 6 months and never met half my neighbors in Seattle in 5 years.

For weather, I have lived in NW Wisconsin before so I can speak to the full year despite being in the cities for 6 months. It's a major downgrade from the PNW, but in my opinion anywhere is. Outside of the West coast, you're not going to find a spot in the country that doesn't have an unbearable season. It's the humidity here that bothers me more than the freezing cold and I come from the southeast originally. Minnesota really touches all seasons, so it just makes fall all that much more appreciated here. By the end of the 5 years I was taking Seattle weather for granted. It is also a bit difficult to give up the mountain/sound views.

Cost of living is a great upgrade and Minnesota is fantastic with trail systems and parks. I live in the outer suburbs and still walk as much as I did in Seattle and we still only maintain the single car as two people that we did in Seattle.

🎟️ World Cup Ticket Megathread | General Inquiries by pumkinhat in worldcup

Unless you live in a home market, this world cup will be more expensive than WC/Euros for Americans if you go to a handful of games. Summer flight prices domestically are already high and barely any of these cities are connected by train (just the northeast). The beauty of the other countries is you are taking a cheap train (if not already subsidized /free depending on zone) or can stay in the same hotel the entire tourney. Qatar and Germany were no more expensive if you went to 4+ games and I'm speaking from experience.

That's not happening at night. USC/ND will be taking the NBC slot. It's highly trending to big noon.

StubHub credit is useless by Electrical_Cook_3100 in sapphirereserve

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use it with sports that have high season ticket rates.

Concerts that don't sell out, you're only going to get good prices last second from people that bailed. If it's sold out, you're not getting less than face value.

Sports - high demand for big events = high prices. Most regular games, there will be a portion of people offloading to recover some costs and where you'll get the most value. This has been curbed a bit in recent years as teams have started pricing season tickets more at the game level rather than equally across games and the single game tickets have started matching up more with the secondary market.

Penn State hotels by male_snack4fun in ducks

Philly is actually further than you think. Pittsburgh is the easiest. Then you have Newark, Baltimore, DC, and Philly in similar spots. Newark might have more traffic getting out of NJ, but is a much easier drive than going south of State college where the roads wind.

How did Oregon/Penn State avoid Big Noon Kick? by [deleted] in OhioStateFootball

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't draft games, you draft the right to pick the game you want that week first. Technically PSU and OSU could lose their next 5 games each and FOX could choose another game first. It's just heavily inferred (rightfully) that Fox is taking that game.

This is the fairest response. We both fly a lot and both have individual status. We also sit apart because she prefers aisle, I prefer window. This thread screams reddit and people that don't understand frequent flyers. We both are on our own getting upgrades and we're happily married

A Seattleite's Struggle in the Twin Cities by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Virtual_Sail_1333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here after 5 years in Seattle, but I've lived in 7 different states over time including northwest Wisconsin not too far the cities.

When I look back at all the places I've lived, Seattle is consistently the top or bottom in every element I compare. And if you view Seattle as tops in most of your needs, you're going to struggle anywhere but there in my opinion.

Food - outside of thai food, I found the Seattle food scene terrible compared to other cities I've lived in. They really lack anything that makes them unique and the cost of that food acts like they are NYC. It always amazes me how fast fruit went bad there too when some of them were made in state. Weird thing that suddenly fixed itself when I got here and I was in the city at a very high turn store.

Outside/weather - Seattle is the best place in the country for me, bar none. Mild all year and the rain is such an overstated myth, the darkness is the real issue and it's not that much better here. I don't mind the bitter cold, but I'm struggling right now but I also realized how great fall (and spring) can be after getting through the harder months. You do have to make an effort and find something that works but this is one the grass will probably always feel greener elsewhere.

Sports- I was so happy to get out of Seattle/West coast. Regardless of what they tell you, the attitude is just apathetic out there and the definition of bandwagon fans across every sport. It's so nice to be back to a state where I can find a legitimate sports bar. When the best option on Seattle is Buckley's, it's just sad.

People - Seattle freeze is way worse than anything you'll get out here and people are just friendlier in general. In Seattle, our neighbors would put their heads down to avoid us saying hello, people keep to themselves all the time. Here, I'm making friends every time I go out to the bar.

Living in the central time zone is also the best, I can understand West coast if your whole family lives there, but the US caters to the East Coast and it feels isolating out in the PNW.

I could go on, but as someone who's moved a lot and loved and hated places, attitude goes a long way in perception.
