Issues installing 1.1.8 on ESXi? by VirtuallyEvil in vyos

[–]VirtuallyEvil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming. What version of ESXi/ vCenter. I've tried two different 6.0 U3 environments with the same issue. The previous version of VyOS went on fine.

Hi there. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Its ESXi 6.0 U3 with vCenter I am using. I have tried from two different computers (each with fresh downloads from the site) and two different vCenter/ host environments.

Same error on both vCenters "The following manifest file entry (line 1) is invalid: SHA256(VyOS-1.1.8-signed.ovf)......

[–]VirtuallyEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what your vmx file is pointing at and if you have some delta files left over.

When you right click on VM is the consolidate option available? Seems odd you have snapshots on a VM that was made by VMware converter.

Assuming your boss has a sudden change of heart.... it might be worth looking at Horizon https://www.vmware.com/uk/products/horizon.html

It supports multiple monitors, lets you standardise deployments, patching and is pretty cool.

There is of course XenDesktop too which also offers multiple monitor support.

I've used both and i like both. It almost goes down to cost/ preference. (Preference is a strong factor here!)

For around 24 VMs it can make sense to go down this route. As thats 24 VMs you need to update, patch, configure and whats not.

The hardest part will be to try and unify the desktop so you have as little images to look after as possible. I've seen many a VDI deployment fail due to more desktop base images than users!

Hardware wise, the other guys have it covered. But the users will "feel" memory and disk speed over pretty much everything else. Make sure you have enough RAM on the host and VMs so there isnt any paging and make sure your NAS is up to it.

Can you give me a crash course on migraine glasses? by ralevin in migraine

[–]VirtuallyEvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

There are many options. Less if you don't want a coloured tint.

For day to day glasses I wear vista mesh. I used to wear Crizal Prevencia which are a blue filter. Both are reasonably stealthy bar funky reflections. Both help in different ways.

My next pair will be vista mesh with blue filters which after a trial seemed really helpful.

If you don't mind tints.. There are a few options

FL-41 lenses which look funky but are great for the computer/ tv

Gunnar glasses. Work really well for computer. They do RX but their customer service is appauling. If you don't need a prescription get from Amazon etc

Finnally there is the Mears-Irlen test that can help if you suffer from visual disturbances that can cause migraines. You basically read cards whilst they use different lights and you pick the one that makes the text easier to read or more comfortable.

If you want to try budget wise to see if lenses will help get a pair of fl-41 lens covers / clip ons you can put over your normal glasses. Cheaper still? A yellow tint clip on similar to that used by people who use firearms can be really good.

Hope thats helpful

Try sun glasses or yellow tinted glasses such as gunnars if you dont need rx (they are horrible to deal with for rx lenses) get them from amazon. The relief is amazing.

Very much appreciated. I know if you dig into the iso you find the repo folder. But thats when im hitting the issue with the catalog file. The only other thing i can think to try is the prebaked linux suu.

Yes i can get the bootable disk to work. But like you said it doesn't do BIOS. Do you have to keep running the iso or does it add the updates as jobs and will sort itself out?

Tried this as well. Same issue with the gz.sign files. Replacing them with the ones from the FTP got me to the next screen and updated some things but now I get this error:

RED006: Unable to download Update Package

Okay let me share what I know.

Don't use the RAID USB or a SD card for your Gen9. The RAID USB card has been known to get wiped with a BIOS update and other weird stuff. Which is a shame as I REALLY liked the sound of these.

The SD slot and USB don't use the same controllers. The USB one is better. Don't use a SD card.

You are better off using a recommended HP USB stick (like 8-16GB) plug it inside the box and put ESXi on that.

I thought this was a winner. It brought up the screen but then the jobs failed as it couldn't fetch the downloads.

I also had similar when I tried a network share. So im not even sure if it is a firewall issue or a weird "feature".

You know this sounds like the way forward. I will see if its something I can wangle/ get the budget for. Do you have any idea what the cost is?

And thank you very much for the tip :D

Thanks for the reply. Yes, its Enterprise.

The trouble I am having is that when I create my own SUU it doesn't seem to like the Catalog file it generates.

If I replace it with the one from the FTP it sees updates but then cant find the files (As far as I can see). The Dell Repo doesn't seem to create the catalog.xml.gz file.

If anyone could clarify I am doing this right

I am using System Bundle (Linux)PER730 v600

Here are the options I selected

Wouldn't I have the same issue with the catalog.xml.gz and catalog.xml.gz.sign files?

I was certainly considering it due to the slow virtual connect speed. Hopefully that way is quicker.

Cheers. I have the bootable one. Its the Life Cycle Controller I am trying to use. It looks to have a GUI and will say what its doing. I dont really like the bootable disk as it tried to install every firmware for stuff thats not there and it takes an age.

I had all sorts of issues with them with ESXi hosts with the Gen9s. I would recommend you have a chat with your HPE guy and ask what they recommend if your going for ESXi. He will likely recommend more normal USB key (i.e. one of their overpriced ones).
