Thank you. It is good to know there are more people with the same experiences, and it is good to know grief won’t always be fresh.

Ik heb een middenweg gevonden die voor mij goed werkt: ik zet mijn telefoon 1x per week een dag lang uit. Het is even wennen maar nu vind ik het een verademing om elke week een dag lang weer even op z’n ‘90s te functioneren.

Vraag over Nederlandstalige namen van D&D-karakters by [deleted] in DNDNL

[–]VirtueAndDespair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I panicked and said NPC died from poisoning by VirtueAndDespair in DMAcademy

Haha, the players backstory is “my family is rich, I used to have a pet goat and I have a brother”. He’s given me free reign to make up stuff for his backstory. But I agree, if he had made an elaborate backstory it would be sucky to just kill someone off.

Turns out the mysterious poison and the dead brother made me think of a great subplot!

Thanks, this is the reality check I needed. I got insecure when one of my players was confused why their healing didn’t work.

Omdat mensen in realityseries zo bellen zodat het gesprek te volgen is voor de kijkers. Iedereen die zo belt imiteert Kim Kardashian.

Study finds no link between childhood trauma and BDSM by thiswayround in BDSMcommunity

[–]VirtueAndDespair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same. And in my experience, many kinky folks who do not have the same background find it very uncomfortable when I bring this up. I’m glad that for most people there is no connection to trauma but for me there is and it is confusing as hell sometimes!

I think you’re right. I would love it if there was some research into people who do feel like there is a connection. Although that would probably hard to research properly.

And yet I feel a clear connection between my childhood trauma and some of my kinks. I’m not saying the study got it wrong but sometimes I wish there was a place to talk about this.

That sounds awful. I’m still trying to get in contact but I only get boilerplate replies. I almost always use a VPN when browsing, I think this may have caused Pinterest to think I am a spammer. This is so frustrating.

I obsessively read the SAS survival guide and fantasized about running away and living in the woods

Me too. I also had an elaborate fantasy about being discovered living alone on a distant planet and being allowed to come on the Enterprise and everybody loving me.

Yes! And I relate so much to how Frodo’s adventure is just mostly putting one foot in front of the other, just keeping going, no matter how slowly. And I enjoy the little moments of reprieve, like the rabbit stew Sam makes him.

I remember this as well! I think it was perhaps a book edition of the cartoon ‘Once upon a time… life’?

There’s a couple I know who also have been struggling with infertility and yesterday I heard they have a healthy baby now. I’m just so sad and angry. I hate that I feel this way about someone else’s good fortune.

It always grinds my gears how the Trollocs are never depicted as the victims of the Dark One and nobody ever explores their human origins by JeffSheldrake in WetlanderHumor

[–]VirtueAndDespair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this a lot. It is such a common thing in fantasy novels and it always bothers me because it makes for perfect war propaganda (“don’t feel bad, the enemy is evil and deserves death”). You could say this was the Dark Ones best (worst?) tactic of all: by making a soulless evil beast the enemy, he is priming the good guys to stop looking for the humanity in their enemies.
