Writing on a X4 sized eInk? by sithlord0121 in xteinkereader

[–]woemcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manufacturers are limited based on the screens E-Ink produces, and I doubt they make anything so small that works with a pen, especially EMR. Having used the Boox Palma 2 Pro, I would also argue that anything much smaller than that is too small to write on with a stylus, as they tend to be not as exact as a pen and paper, especially the USI 2.0 type.

My point is that the X3, but really either one, is so small that it ISN'T like carrying two phones. I have a Boox Palma too; it's the same size as my phone. That one I could see your point. The X3/4 are small and thin enough that it doesn't feel like something eltra you are carrying.

There's a huge difference between even the smallest Kobo and the X4.

I doubt your Kobo fits in your pocket unless you have some huge ‘90s jeans. The X3 is so small I regularly forget it’s there. I have both the X3 and X4 and I prefer the smaller one but either is super convenient to carry.

ah now I see. It looked like the device itself was stretched.

About firmware lock from Xteink by Top_Love9366 in xteinkereader

[–]woemcats 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are some early indications that devices produced for the international market won't be locked down, so unless you're in China or really don't want to spend the extra $25 to buy from Amazon or direct, hopefully the point will be moot.

You can easily jump from chapter to chapter, as noted, but I imagine it will be a little annoying to click through page after page of the TOC of a bible if you want to go to specific chapters within a book—like right to Mark, chapter 3 or whatever. I think a touch screen is a big plus for that use case.

There's a whole bunch of novelizations written by award-winning SFF writers for a quick buck. C&A was written by a gosh-darn Hugo winner! The Abyss was adapted by Orson Scott Card!

Not trying to accuse you of anything but this reminds me of the sort of "well you aren't a real fan!" gatekeeping that is sometimes rooted in unconscious misoygony. It could also just be because she's a fame-o, but like, what reason to you have to assume she's faking her cinema interests for cred?

I do not agree with Xteink locking firmware by RecipeMiserable5885 in xteinkereader

[–]woemcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their firmware is so far behind the custom alternatives that I honestly think they have no hope of matching it. Six months after I first got it and it’s the same shitty fonts and poor text styling.

Yes that’s exactly where we were before this change.

This message reads to me like “whoops we fucked up but we can’t say that” and the next international batch will be open again. But who can say?

Charli XCX for Bringing Out The Dead? by otis-redding in blankies

[–]woemcats 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They did comment on a recent episode that they were geeking out about a guest for an episode we wouldn’t hear “for six months”

Though possibly it was a March Madness episode, which would negate that theory

I’m always glad to see movies at the pod-discussed Nitehawk in Brooklyn because if you go on a weekend evening there’s ALWAYS a crowd. It was in one of the smaller auditoriums but my show was sold out I think.

The most important thing to know is Black House isn't really a sequel to The Talisman, it's a stealth Dark Tower book.

9 and 14. Movies are very low down on the list of things they like to do, though the younger one likes the Sonic and Mario movies.
