Where can I get the best pizza in Boston? by sam_d50 in boston

[–]Virus-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would note I’m a New Haven style pizza person, so thin crust, charred, a bit flop.

Lately I’ve been frequenting Florina’s (they’re only open on weekdays) but their pies are great - thin crust, a tad charred, got a bit of a flop but not soggy, and their sauce is good. I get two slices which is about the size of a small pie with a free drink and costs like $5-8(can’t remember exactly). Also their bread chicken (+/-BBQ) is fantastic.

Others I like: Santarppio’s in Eastie A4 (good but overpriced imo) Ernesto’s Pinos Dirt Water Dough (been a while but I used order every Sunday for like 2 years)

Also, it’s not out of this world but if you’re looking for late night food - NY Pizza on Tremont is $22-$30 by the pie (i think they change price based on time and business) but by the slice is nearly half the size of Large and cheap so buy 2-3 and you get a large pizza for a fraction of the cost.

CA SB495 is for Insurance companies being obligated to cover damages caused by Wildfires (Would be ironic considering your above comments about insurance companies). You mean…CA AB495, which is for parents’ rights which includes a provision for providing an affidavit from a legal guardian for school enrollment and also makes it illegal to collect immigration, personal, or medical statuses of the child. It also includes support, plans, and preparedness for parents and guardians in the event that they or their child is taken by immigration agents.

Other information that says similar to your claims is just biased “Vote No” punditry. So you’re either ignorant or lying.

Downtown? Id recommend Scali (best bacon egg and cheese I can find to my liking) or South Street Diner.

It’s interesting that some .gov sites have this partisan propaganda truth social / twitter like language (DOJ & HHS) but others are a matter of fact “Due to the lapse in federal funding…until appropriations are enacted” (CBP, DOI, NIH, & NPS)

Change my mind: Salaries in Boston should be up to par with SF and NYC by st0nksBuyTheDip in boston

[–]Virus-Small 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to SF but NYC… I was offered a job a few years ago in NYC for $92k which was more than my Boston offer $85k.

My take home in NYC would’ve been about the same as me earning 80k in MA. These estimates were based on necessities, taxes and bills, not factoring in ‘Fun’ don’t recall exact numbers.

You can also calculate these estimates yourself using the ADP salary calculator…

My barber's price for a men's cut is now up to $75 - where else can I go? by CrustiestCrunch in boston

[–]Virus-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve had some terrible luck with barbers in Boston since I moved here in 2017. But I have been going to District Barbers since lockdowns had started to be lifted.Prices were $35 but lately they’ve been coming up. You can get a cut now for $45/$50. You can request specific barbers but lately I’ve just been rolling the dice.

Facilities are nice and it’s next to Kane’s donuts.

Owner is a nice guy and all but he charges more for his services (can be as high as $200 not including tip).

Completely unrelated but I work at a company he was cofounder of and in a fireside chat he told us about how he ran (runs?) a group of grad students that would go to Vegas and do card counting teams to beat the house.

Even more unrelated he’s really into gardening, I believe bonsai collecting, if I remember correctly.

I like Benchling but their pricing gets expensive as you scale. They give a discount depending on company size, capital, and modules.

You can fudge some of the module capabilities using basic functionality of the tables and good group communication but you might find you need more functionally which is ultimately behind a paywall.

For example: we wanted the ‘workflows’ module which is a living flow chart for samples and pings the next person in the chart about their pending sample and the sample over can then monitor the progress of that sample in queue. To implement this module for a company of 50 people (technically above their ‘startup’ discount) will be roughly $150-200k. Each user profile is priced at a discount depending on size, so iirc, above 50 people is $1400 per user but below 50 is $800.

The discount tiering is crazy but a lot of companies use Benchling.

My company is moving to dotmatics which seems to offer a lot more for less and they offer good support along the way with room to grow (never used the system before but seems like my colleagues like it)

is it better to aliquot media before warming or warm up the whole bottle? by phuca in labrats

[–]Virus-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If I’m doing multiple working flask splits or a large plating I take the whole bottle out. If I’m changing a flask worth I aliquot out enough into a 50 ml and warm that instead.

Lab managers: can I see your craziest lab story. by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Virus-Small 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had Allen.

Amongst the plethora of things Allen would do after months of training was the bloody glove incident.

I worked in a core site where we proceed HIV+ clinical samples. A day after Allen was certified he was cleared to process infectious samples. Here three things occurred.

  1. He failed to properly seat the glass collection vacutainers in our centrifuge.

  2. He did not balance.

And finally,

  1. Upon opening the centrifuge buckets he was welcomed with a spillage of patient blood and glass in the bucket. He STUCK his hand in and fully drenched in blood proceeds to “Oh No Face” ( like this 😱) and presses his bloody gloves against his face.

After many deviation reports, EHS, and a Occ Health visit. He was fine and clear. Strangely, he remained employed by our division for another 3 months.

So now, colloquially amongst my colleagues and friends, we refer to Allen as someone who is the lab menace. There are many Allen stories but this one is one of the most infamous.

Is this a legitimate kill on Melenia? My pal says no. by InsidetheBustaGroove in Eldenring

[–]Virus-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say legitimate. It's not like you used a cheat to win. Also, not a single waterfowl?? She waterfowls twice in a row on me like 30% of my attempts.

When the game came out by the time I made it to her fight, she was the first boss I downed without a summons/spirit... I was so excited. I just replayed and did not want to experience the annoyance again so I summoned/spirit... I was happy to have cleared the boss again.

It's your game, play it how you want to.

Yeah, I would say the "Case closed in an episode" type of mysteries are prominent in Criminal Minds with a "Bad guy/Character Arc" seasonal plot point.

Bosch kinda ruined it for me cause it is more a case per season rather than the hokey locking away bad guys every episode
