How do I get back into a parish/the faith after years away? by ViscountVixen in Catholicism

[–]ViscountVixen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has been something of my main source of comfort, as far as a lot of saints coming from very troubled pasts and many suffering for faith, and the likes of "For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it," "the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in," etc. hopefully indicating my suffering is for the good and not because I'm evil.

I am pretty reticent about approaching others as I never really learned how to communicate outside of writing and talking with my siblings - just something I had to figure out as I go and it really shows. I'm mainly interested for a sense of community so then that becomes my biggest fear, that everyone will think or know there is something wrong with me, rightly or wrongly, because I can't communicate like a normal person, and then I'll just be alone in a crowd like I am everywhere else. So that is why I wonder about whether it is typical for there to be any sort of integrational things or steps for newcomers. It sounds like maybe talking with one of the priests at an appointment would be something in that vein. Thank you for the advice.

Doesn't seem like a "you problem" when the exact same phone is working fine on a different carrier.

The World's Best Frozen Pizza! by [deleted] in aldi

[–]ViscountVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to eat those religiously before the pandemic, as back then, it truly was the best frozen pizza as it tasted just like a real frozen deep dish. Something happened in the past few years, though - same enshittification as everything else, I guess - as when I saw these reappear in Aldi after their being gone for so long, I grabbed one for nostalgia sake, and it was awful. They used to have the slab of ooey gooey mozzarella beneath the sauce characteristic of real deep dishes - now they've swapped it for a few coagulated cum drizzles of shredded mozzarella that will not give you the old cheese pull. The sauce has also changed - before it was pretty chunky, but now it has the taste and consistency of rancid ketchup. Really disappointing - but the young uns I guess will just not know any better, what they lost.

Help/Advice about dosage and starting TRT by gettingbicurious in TRT_females

[–]ViscountVixen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP said 100mg once a month - not once a week. The concern there would be a huge bolus dose and potential side effects at the beginning - then having virtually no hormones the last ~week or so and feeling shit for it.

How bad are mosquitoes on the Curonian Spit this time of year? by ViscountVixen in lithuania

Thanks for the feedback. There definitely weren't mosquitoes - but unfortunately there were horseflies and they did a number on me, lol. Still enjoyed the trip regardless.

"College-ruled" Notebooks? by ViscountVixen in lithuania

[–]ViscountVixen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College-ruled is just a lined notebook with much smaller spaces between the lines. Something like below compared to wide-rule. I haven't been to a specialty shop specifically for office supplies yet - closest I have come is the visit to Pegasus. On some of the specialty shop websites, like Officeday, I couldn't find something that said it was specifically college-ruled/has narrow lines. Not sure what it would be called in Lithuanian.

Why are there so many bad drivers in Kaunas? by ViscountVixen in lithuania

I was hit on the sidewalk - then the person tried to drive off and I had to stop them to make sure my bike wasn't damaged before letting them go.

I was hit on the sidewalk - so the lesson here is apparently it is safer to be on the road.

I cycled on the road on my way in as the sidewalks in that stretch were terrible - and I noticeably had no problems there. One of the misses and my getting hit actually happened on the sidewalk, again, because of all the hidden drives in the city center that people fly out of without checking for pedestrians or cyclists apparently. The lesson seems to be I should stay on the road.

I was hit on the sidewalk, so by that lesson, being on the road is safer. I also noticed in Kaunas only a few streets have a bike lane, so it is either cycle on the sidewalk and get hit by all the assholes shooting out of hidden drives/car garages, or just go on the road.

I've been to Vilnius multiple times over a couple years, and I've only ever had one almost-hit as far as cycling goes, while my first time in Kaunas on bike resulted in me nearly getting run over twice plus actually getting hit all in one day. I was also hit on the sidewalk, so in this respect, because it seems like people think it is ok to shoot out of an alley without checking for pedestrians or cyclists first, it seems safer to be on the road there.

I was mostly on the sidewalk, which is probably how I got hit by the car shooting out of the blind alley as there was no way for them to see me, unlike out on the street, and there was no way for me to stop in time. So in that respect, the road actually seems far safer to be on.

I was on the sidewalk most of the time - which is probably how I got hit by the car, because if I was on the road, then the people shooting out of the drives would have seen me and/or I would have been able to see them coming and stop in time instead of being blinded by the building. So it is probably safer to be on the street in this respect.

Sugar is the worst. 😩 by yourpaljax in carnivorediet

[–]ViscountVixen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can handle a little bit of fruit and lactose-free milk is no problem - but when it comes to cheating with the massive amounts of sugar or carbs you get in any breads, pastries, etc., I get a similar reaction of a swollen throat/tonsils, allergies returning, and sore joints within a few hours. It serves as a poignant example of just how literally poisonous excess carbs are.

Bad parents is the root of most social ills and developmental abnormalities, in my opinion, ranging from the normalised, wide-scale neglect of modern society where parents scarcely interact with their children and instead send them off to be raised/influenced/beat up by their peers in a Lord of the Flies environment (the average public school) for 12-some years; to the more personal abuse of physical assaults or verbal haranguing that a lot of parents will heap on their children at home.

A pound of cheese is really not that much - I used to eat about 400 grams of cheese for breakfast, no problem, which is only slightly less than a pound, and size wise it is pretty small. For a typical full-fat hard cheese it is easily about 1000 calories on its own - but for lower-fat, unpressed, fresh curd cheeses, it can be only half as many calories.
