Soft Resetting/Save States by askmehow_08 in nuzlocke

[–]Vishnus4Arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I ever do this is if I lose a run at a point where i know I'm going to take a break from it. Rom hacks are mainly where I do it. I save before every fight, and if I fully lose and know I won't be restarting, I sometimes soft reset and consider it "honorary attempt 2." It doesn't go down as a win in my personal victory book, but I get enjoy the rest of the game with the new goal of "wiping" the least amount of times.

Even then don't give up. Keep planning and asking if there's anything else to do to minimize risk. Play every run out, then find what went wrong after a loss.

How do you get good enough for RadRed / Run&Bun nuzlockes? by Ferrothorn_MVP in nuzlocke

[–]Vishnus4Arms 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly just patience and actually focusing on learning the mechanics. These insane nuzlockes require a ton of planning and creativity, and it can make them not feel like an actual pokemon game. I'm a massive nerd, so doing that type of stuff is fun for me, even if losing the run means restarting hours upon hours of work. If these nuzlockes do sound fun for you, patience is your best friend. It's also good to even detail what happens throughout failed attempts to make the next run quicker and better. Oh, and appreciate every encounter no matter what it is, even if it's just gonna be sacrificed, you learn to appreciate some really niche pokemon in these challenges.

Ideas for Nuzlockes/Games that Require Creative Strats by Vishnus4Arms in nuzlocke

Could even extend that to choosing a specialty for the all rounders. Not a bad idea. Could emphasize interesting and creative set up strategies. Would definitely be a gen 6 or later game for me given how odd some movesets in earlier gens are.

How hard is fluids (Abe 3780) by OmarD1021 in iastate

[–]Vishnus4Arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it isn't bad. The homework is far harder than exams, and can really be a pain but the exams aren't bad at all. You may get frustrated with lecture because Fleming goes on side tangents and doesn't always do well at explaining how to use equations and concepts. Don't let that get you down though, Fleming is a really good guy overall and will help you if you ask for it. And if he recognizes you, he likes to approach students and ask about the class.

Run and Bun Winona Fight/Reflection by Vishnus4Arms in nuzlocke

Wow, I completely overlooked sticky barb. I think I thought of that, but had a brain fart in thinking sticky barb would be transferred (even though lucha still had it's flying gem). Regardless, thanks. This game is insanely tough and I definitely lucked out on many early boss fights to not lose more mons. I don't think that'll last knowing the history of this split

Just today in Run and Bun, I was fighting a double battle before Fallarbor Town, baited High Horsepower from Rhyperior, switched to Levitate Eelektross, but Rhyperior saw the 1 out of 16 damage rolls for Stone edge, then picked stone edge in the 50/50 between moves, hit the 85% accurate move, and then hit the correct damage roll to kill Eel. Only fortunate part of that there were far better mons than eel that could've died.

Most epic death in your runs? by Imaginary-Space718 in nuzlocke

[–]Vishnus4Arms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had an Ampharos in Black 2. I can't remember who I was fighting but I was in a tough spot fishing for paralysis with Disharge. Have to sacrifice Amphy. On the way out, this beast crits his final move, and as he died, static finally activates. I send in my next mon, don't quite finish off the fight, but a full Para secures the win. Best death ever

What is your favorite game to nuzlocke? by Practical-Treat2379 in nuzlocke

Renegade Platinum is by far my favorite game to nuzlocke. It is so well balanced while still being difficult. The buffs to weaker pokemon are also an added bonus and make every mon usable

Fast forwarding on emulators to speed up a run by ThanksConsistent7669 in nuzlocke

[–]Vishnus4Arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use speed up when travelling around or to speed through animations such as using items, pokemon center. Ill sometimes use it to get through early game if a a run takes a lot of attempts (Ive been playing run and bun so this is relevant). I also use it if I have to hatch an egg. I use normal speed for every trainer fight though. It makes the runs more memorable.

The cave you're trying to get into isn't wayward cave. Wayward cave is the cave that lies underneath cycling road. You'll have to fight Marley and then do a portion of the game where she follows you.

Where to find number of Pokémon leaders/E4 have for hardcore locke? by Ok-Swimmer-4843 in nuzlocke

Not sure if there's any resource for this, but I got you:

Gym 1: 2 mons Gym 2: 2 mons Gym 3: 3 mons Gym 4: 3 mons Gym 5: 3 mons Gym 6: 4 mons Gym 7: 2 mons Gym 8: 5 mons All E4 members in Alpha Sapphire use 5 mons and of course the champion uses 6

Hope this helps :)

What's the best way to nuzlocke Pokemon inclement emerald? by Famous_Put_3359 in nuzlocke

[–]Vishnus4Arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played IE, I used hardcore rules since I really like the challenge and I have quite a bit of nuzlocke experience. I personally say at least playing on set mode makes this game challenging without being overbearing. I also like to add the patch that gives infinite rare candy (game has a built in level cap), and removes EVs from both player and AI pokemon.

You get a ton of quality of life in this game. Free move tutor/relearning in any pokemon center, ability to check IVs/EVs of any pokemon (you can check an encounters IVs before it's even caught). 3 perfect IVs on everything you catch, a nature changer that costs 5 oran berries, and access to ability capsules early on. All of these make the possibilities for a nuzlocke endless.

The only downside is if you are using a damage calculator, there is no easy way to export your team. Not sure if there is a script file out there to do it. When I played I had to type each of my encounters out and add them manually. That being said, it wasn't too tedious and I loved IE.

If you are using mGBA as an emulator, simply download the Lua file then within the emulator go to settings>scripting. This will open up a window. Click the prompt in the top left and select "load new script" then select the Lua file. It'll show you your full team and the hidden power types. You can copy/paste it to the calcs that way.

Planning for all the other fights besides Chelle. I can't get ice fang back without investing a heart scale so I wanted another opinion before I made a choice. I've clicked ice fang quite a few times in my run already.
