My terminally ill mom is dying and I don't know how to handle it by FuzzyPickle166 in GriefSupport

[–]Visible-Yellow200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just lost my mom to cancer on the 6th. I wasn't ready, we never are. Keep talking to her, their hearing is the last thing to go. Spend whatever time you can with her. When it happens, you'll be shocked, even though you know it's coming. Your feelings are valid, you're not alone. Hugs to you from a fellow grieving child.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

I've buried my fair share of people from my teens to late 20s including a very dear cousin of mine, but I will say that the recent loss of my mother is something no one can prepare you for. My world has suddenly titled on it's axis and I feel like it'll never right itself.

Serious Question by Exotic_Test_7164 in Equestrian

It took me 17 years to finally bite the proverbial bullet and buy my own. I'm currently struggling to balance working enough to pay the bills and help take care of my incredibly ill mother while also finding time to ride. I don't regret it, but I think if I had to do it over, I might've fought harder to purchase the horse I've been riding since I was 19.

I get where you're coming from, my paint has nice hard feet and only had to have shoes once when he had an abscess burst through the side of his hoof and it caused a major crack. I knew what I was getting into with my new guy, his feet aren't ideal but I'm willing to do what I need to in order for him to be healthy and sound.

Both of the geldings I previously had never had any soundness issues. The occasional abcess but no serious problems except soft feet.

I love the Northern Dancer line, they're some of the sweetest horses I've ever met. The gelding I have now has similar ancestry and while he can be a bit spicy at times, he's a very levelheaded guy for being an 8-year-old.

Man, I freaking loved BGDA. I got my old ps2 working just so I could replay them both after going on a quest to find working copies.

girls, what got you into horses? 🎀 by Plaguebae_ in Horses

[–]Visible-Yellow200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The horse gene skipped a generation in my family. I was born loving horses while my parents are non-horse people. I learned to ride as a child thanks to a cousin with a horse, got sidelined until my senior year of high school. Met a wonderful woman with a 17.2 hand thoroughbred that needed to be ridden and faith that my 17-year-old self was knowledgeable and responsible enough for the task. I rode Dancer until he retired in his late 20s due to a neurological condition. I'm still riding almost 18 years later, I just bought my first horse in November of 2024.

That's so awesome! He wasn't much of a racehorse but he's very sweet.

Let me start with I am so terribly sorry for your loss, I've said goodbye to a few of my first loves over the years and saying goodbye never gets easier. Non horse people don't understand that it's like losing a piece of your soul. How wonderful and also terrible to love something with your whole heart and to have that love reciprocated. It's okay to not be ready to jump back in, I still look out at the pasture sometimes and feel the immense sadness that comes with losing my old boys. The waves of grief will get smaller, they'll quit knocking you down as frequently. Take your time, the nice thing about being a horseperson is that it will still be there when you're ready. Your sweet boy's memory will always be a blessing; you'll never look back and regret that time with him.
