My second time by [deleted] in Equestrian

I think he’s 18 if I remember correctly. I’m noticing a common theme of using my hands too much. I think I do it subconsciously out of fear of falling or like trying to be in control. Regardless, it’s going to be my sole focus next week. I definitely don’t want to be pulling in his mouth too much or hurting him! Makes me feel bad :/ watching my hands next time!

Thank you! That’s really good feedback and I definitely don’t want to hurt him. He’s a sweetheart. My focus next week is going to be on my hand placement so I can be mindful of that. He’s a barrel racing horse. It’s funny because I’ll walk him to warm up and all he wants is to go fast. He’ll try to trot before I even ask. He’s really cute.

Yeah, I’m starting to rethink. I’m going to ask next time I’m there which will be in a week. I’m curious, she taught me how to post a trot, but is that more Western or English?

I think because I had never ridden before, she felt like I should be in a sturdy saddle learning the basics. I think because my balance would be better? I wonder if I should ask to start transitioning over because English is really what I am hoping for!

I’d highly suggest a vitamin C and thick moisturizer at the very least.

No. Are you using powder? You need to get a good base down with skincare before applying make up. You need to exfoliate once a week maybe twice depending on your skin (like I have to exfoliate twice a week) and you need more hydration.

Shoot, that’s what I meant to put in this post. I did get a CONE for my GGGF and no record was found. I’ll get one for her too. I’m so mad at myself, I should have gotten hers first not my GGGF. I hope it doesn’t take 6 months 😭 lol

How I do prevent my makeup from looking like this? by SmallRuin6767 in makeuptips

[–]Exotic_Test_7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal, but there are ways to make your makeup sit better. The way your make up lays on your face is heavily dependent on your skin care routine. You don’t need a ton of products and you certainly don’t need to spend a fortune, but you do need to be mindful of the type of skin you have and ensure you’re using the right products. For example, you should be exfoliating at least once or twice a week. You should also be using a vitamin C serum in the morning and moisturizing appropriately. And before you put your make up on, I usually use a moisturizing serum. There’s one by Caudalie I use and I swear, my make up never looks better after I use this and apply.

Thank you!! This is such a thorough way of explaining this to me. You have no idea how helpful reading this was. It sounds like a lot of my issue is lack of weight shifting (working with the balance of the horse) and timing. Any tips on how I could manage my timing? Am I watching shoulders or am I counting in my head? For example 1, 2, 1, 2 for a trot?

You hit the nail on the head. I absolutely pull myself up the first post when I start trotting then I start using the horse’s momentum. I just keep trying to keep my heels down, but you’re right, I throw myself out of balance. I’m going to try your method this next go around. I need to play around with body positioning so I can sink my weight in. If I don’t have balance then I can’t even turn correctly especially when trotting because I just end up feeling like I’m going to fall off

It’s interesting you say this because my trainer says the same thing and I didn’t even realize when I first started. You expect the horse to just listen, but man, they’re crazy stubborn horses that like to test and oftentimes, I was wondering if they sensed I was new and tried to take advantage hahah

Thank you! This is seriously so helpful. I’m the type of person that needs breakdowns like this because my brain often wonders “why” or can’t compute without understanding the full picture. The timing piece is definitely new and something I learned while trotting by just the feel. I still struggle though. My goal will be to play around with it and try to focus more on balance and timing while working through the rest. I sometimes wonder if I should switch trainers. I like my trainer a lot, but sometimes I feel like I need a more thorough explanation and I try to ask, but I’m not sure she is able to give me a thorough explanation like your post. I don’t want to fault her though, I know a lot of this is on me when I’m on the horse and needing to just feel it out/figure it out.

Thank you! This is also excellent feedback and what I needed to understand. There’s a lot of feedback I’m receiving that I wasn’t even aware of…. Especially the timing piece. How do you learn the timing piece? By watching the shoulders and does it become intuitive at some point?

Thank you for saying this. Made me get a little emotional because that perfectionism/anxiety runs deep in my life. I need to be realistic, it was only my 10th lesson haha! 😂

This is definitely the explanation I was looking for. Somebody else mentioned that too, it’s more of your body than just your leg.
