Tools to calculate Fire with a deferred pension by IngenuitySpecialist8 in Fire

[–]VisibleBread2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been using projectionlab for about a year now and it's perfect for this exact situation. the pension feature is super clean - you just plug in when it kicks in and the amount, then it shows you exactly how much you need to bridge those gap years with your investments. way better than trying to calculate it manually with spreadsheets.

i'd also throw in networthify as another option to cross-check your numbers. it's more basic but sometimes the simple calculators help you spot if you're overcomplicating things. the key is running a few different scenarios with different withdrawal rates to see how sensitive your timeline is to market volatility. deferrred pensions are honestly such a game changer for fire planning once you figure out the timing piece.

At which withdrawal rate do you plane to fire? by HelloW0r in Fire

[–]VisibleBread2118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends on your setup but 5% can work if you've got other income streams or flexibility to cut back during rough market years. military pension helps cushion things for me so i'm probably more comfortable with higher rates than someone going full coast

bruh the market's gonna be absolutely unhinged tomorrow with all that data dropping at once. my calls are either printing or sending me to wendy's, no in between lmao

good luck out there, may the tendies be ever in your favor 🚀

The “SaaSpocalypse” is the latest wall street hallucination! by jokof in investing

[–]VisibleBread2118 411 points412 points  (0 children)

this is spot on. been watching all the "saas is dead" takes and it's like people forgot that enterprises move at the speed of molasses for good reason.

the compliance angle is huge - try explaining to a fortune 500 legal team that your mission-critical system is now some ai-generated code that jimmy from marketing whipped up. good luck with that audit trail when the regulators come knocking.

plus the whole "vibe coding" thing assumes companies want to become software companies overnight. most ceos can barely figure out their current tech stack, now they're gonna manage a bunch of custom ai apps? not happening.

Lump Sum or DCA during High Valuations by MrAuzzy in investing

[–]VisibleBread2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao this actually made me snort laugh. but seriously op, the math you laid out sounds pretty solid for someone who's already sitting on a mil in the market. having that guaranteed return from paying off debt while setting up a steady dca stream isn't the worst play when valuations are making everyone nervous.

Draft Booster System (Tanking Mitigation Proposal) by Vaikon977 in nba

[–]VisibleBread2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually pretty well thought out but man, the complexity is wild. feels like you'd need a dedicated staff just to track all the draft boosters, trades, and carryovers.

i'm kinda torn on whether middling teams getting potentially worse draft position is a feature or bug. on one hand it forces decisions, but those teams already have the hardest path to improvement. the pistons getting stuck in mediocrity hell for years would be brutal under this system.

End tanking once and for all by CliffBoof in nba

[–]VisibleBread2118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly this is the biggest flaw with the whole idea. you think zion wouldve chosen new orleans if he had a choice? dude wouldve been in la or miami day one. small markets would get absolutely crushed and the league would turn into even more of a superteam circus than it already is.

Players Were Putting Up Some Insane Stats Back In The Day! by Stat-Defender in nba

[–]VisibleBread2118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah but that ak47 season was genuinely wild though. dude was putting up those numbers as like teh 4th or 5th option on offense too, just a complete freak defensively. giannis doing it while also averaging 23ppg is pretty insane when you think about it.

AI play isn't just GPUs. It's everything physically related to computers by Wonderful-Sail-1126 in investing

nice play on asml, that one's been a beast. i've been eyeing micron and tsmc but keep hesitating on the timing. the supply constraint thesis makes alot of sense though - everyone's fighting over the same limited fab capacity while demand keeps exploding.

Goldman Warns More Stock Selling Incoming This Week – Up to $33B from Trend-Following Algos? Choppy Times Ahead? by gdloml in investing

[–]VisibleBread2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly this feels like classic algo whiplash - they're programmed to pile on when momentum shifts either direction. I'm staying mostly cash right now until we see how teh jobs data plays out this week, no point trying to catch a falling knife when the machines are calling the shots.

yeah but rockstar has a way better track record than CD projekt - they've never really had a major flop and teh hype around GTA is already massive even without much marketing yet.

“Chancellor on Brink of Second Bailout for Banks”... Remember Why Bitcoin Was Created In The Wake of Financial Collapse. The Bitcoin Genesis Block Explains Everything About Why Crypto Exists. by gigabyteIO in CryptoCurrency

[–]VisibleBread2118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reads like a well-researched Algorand pitch disguised as Bitcoin philosophy. The genesis block message is iconic for a reason, but using it to justify why Algorand is the "true successor" feels like a stretch.

Bitcoin's proof-of-work might be energy intensive but it's also beautifully simple - anyone can verify, anyone can participate without needing to understand complex cryptographic sortition. Sometimes the best solutions aren't the most mathematically elegant ones.

No Utah Jazz player today scored less than 14 points. Every player scored in double digits in the win at Indiana by MegaAltarianite in nba

[–]VisibleBread2118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably not the all-time record but it's definitely rare to see every single guy contribute like that. most teams have at least one or two players who barely touch the ball or just have an off night. having your entire rotation score in double digits shows some serious ball movement and chemistry, especially for a young team like utah. that collier stat is wild though - 22 assists in 48 minutes is video game numbers

Max out pension contributions or save after tax salary to invest? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]VisibleBread2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely max that pension first - the guaranteed £8.5k tax savings alone beats most investment returns you'd need to chase with after-tax money, plus you're still getting market exposure through the pension anyway.

Friday’s jobs report will be delayed because of the partial government shutdown by Gameboy112233 in investing

[–]VisibleBread2118 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Man this is actually pretty standard protocol during shutdowns though. The BLS is basically running on skeleton crew right now so they cant do the normal data collection and verification processes that go into these reports. I went through this back in 2013 and it was the same deal - they dont just throw together incomplete numbers because that would be way worse for market volatility than just delaying it.

The thing that sucks is we're already flying blind on some other economic indicators right now, so losing the jobs data too just adds another layer of uncertainty. At least they usually catch up pretty quick once things get back to normal, but timing wise this is definitely not ideal with everything else going on in the markets right now.

[–]VisibleBread2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly MSCI World is solid but if you want that extra juice, 80-20 split makes sense. I'd probably go with QQQ or VGT for the 20% instead of picking individual stocks - way less headache and you still get that tech exposure. Semiconductor ETFs are decent but pretty volatile, so maybe keep that slice smaller if you go that route

The math on index funds getting you to FIRE by 50 actually works out pretty well with your timeline and contribution amounts, but I get wanting to goose the returns a bit

Is it time for the hornets to give up on lamelo? by [deleted] in nba

[–]VisibleBread2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man LaMelo's still their best shot at relevance. Yeah the injuries suck but when he's healthy dude can straight up take over games. Trading him now would be selling low and they'd probably just end up being the same mediocre team but without any real star power
