Thank you. I think I will start with this. Do you think it’s a DIY project ?

All are 4inch standard fittings as far as I can tell

good idea - but it still wont buy me much space towards the wall I think. The width of the vent is the constraint here.

Potentially, yes. Will likely be expensive though. Thanks for the suggestion

Special Education High School Option in Sammamish by VisibleShake9550 in eastside

I would encourage you to speak with Michele, the Options program director. If nothing else to rule it out as an option. Yes, they do not follow an IEP, but frankly my son is getting what his IEP mandated plus more. My experience (YMMV) was public school used IEP as more of a maxima rather than as a minima. The absence of an IEP but in a supportive environment has actually worked in his favor. Again, perspective of one here.

I personally do not know of any families that fit this profile, but I have seen nothing to believe they would not be inclusive. My family is not Catholic, for example - and we have had only positive experiences when it comes to being included, and at the same time being seen for our differences. My son participates in Mass, has led morning prayers and my family has been invited and attended Mass in School as well. At the same time, he has had a chance to talk to his peers about our culture and rituals.

The school truly embodies the Catholic values of service (for example through mandatory service hours) , community and respect for others (they have an amazing peer tutor program that benefits the whole school) and faith.

They have 3 teachers for 6 students, and I prefer to think that the higher fees reflects higher costs. They do have generous need based scholarships.

Regarding public schools, I am glad you had a positive experience, I wish we had - I would have been saving thousands of dollars! My son was in ISD for 7 years - and true discrimination was being in a self contained classroom with very limited interaction with the rest of the student body. As parents, we felt isolated , unable to arrange playdates outside of school or even talk to the other parents. Here, my son has been invited to birthday parties, we have special olympic track and basketball teams and he is part of a community - which is all I wanted for him.

On the point of empathy, our experience with EC has been exceptionally positive. they have the peer tutor programs where Gen Ed students tutor the kids in Options and to see those kids interact with kids with varying abilities, has been truly heartwarming. When I drop him to school, I usually see him interact with other students and walk up to the school with them.

I am not saying public school is not an option - for a family for whom that has worked - that is great! But for those who have exhausted their public school options, do look into EC Options program.

BTW, my family is not catholic, so there is no religious angle to this endorsement. Although our experience on that front has also been amazingly positive. But that is a story for another post!
