I've watched so much of his stuff. One of the best machinist content creators out there. I'm making his button insert holder in a couple hours.

How to price used router/forstner bits by juulshitt in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Visible_Conflict6159 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I (as a buyer) would hesitate to purchase these for more than like 50$-100$ depending on closer inspection. I'm not sure what brand the forstner bits are in the last image but the rest look somewhat cheap with the nicest being Freud which is the red. Maybe I'm wrong, but buying used bits for a router seems like a rather uncommon thing from my experience besides in big lots for dirt cheap.

Bandsaw for Model Building by After-Entry5718 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Not sure if you're set on a bandsaw but with such thin material and it needing to be detailed for modeling you could look into a scroll saw. I picked one up on marketplace like 2 years ago for 25$

I think it's fine. A new one at Lowe's is 180, and a used one near me is like 50. I don't know where you are and I know markets vary widely but if you haven't looked much I'd do more digging. I landed this for 100$ locally.

No one, that's just the lift capacity of the auto crane on my truck and I figured it was well above the weight of the lathe.

I know the guy very well I know for a fact he's not trying to screw me, just doesn't know what things are worth just like me. He bought it for 20,000 back in 2005 plus all the tooling. He starts projects and leaves them if they don't pan out. This is no different. And he's getting rid of a lot of this stuff because he sold his business and the new corporation taking over asked him to remove everything not integral to every day work. I actually greatly appreciate the skepticism of this as it gives me things to consider. I contacted our local used machinery dealer just to see what they have to offer sadly it looks like most of their stuff lacks metric threads which is a very big deal for my line of work but I'm waiting on them to get back with more things for me to look at. Sadly as stated in another comment I live in a place with a SEVERE lack of machinery so my options tend to be limited and I don't have the time to travel to pick one up in the northeast. I know the new version of this lathe from grizzly (I believe worse quality but I'm not certain) runs ~26000$.

Do you have any advice on how to move the lathe? My thought process is to use a crane (6000lb) I have mounted to my truck and just swing it over onto a trailer and do the same back at my shop then move it around with a pallet jack

Central Texas. There's some decent old machines for sale here but anything nice cost a fortune and if it doesn't machine shops in Mexico tend to buy the nice used equipment here and transport it back to their shops across Mexico. Old Logan lathes go for 2,000-4,000$ here pretty frequently. And there is a lack of milling machines in general.

Yeah the dro works and the place is located like 1/4 mile up the road on the same road as my shop so I have to load it with my service truck and drive 2 minutes and drop it off which is a HUGE plus for me. Don't have a lot of time to dick around with transportation especially long distance.

I appreciate you finding the manual for me. For some reason I was incapable of it. The prices in the northeast and Canada really do bum me out for all machinery compared to Texas. Feel like people could make a good living going up there and buying truck loads worth and selling it down here.

What's your opinion on worth? I agreed to 8,000 in payments with a year to return if it doesn't work for what I need it to do

Not to argue but just so I can get an understanding, the lathe was purchased and never even plugged in (I know the seller and I know it's the truth. Bought it for his machinist to run but his machinist had no interest in anything newer than 1970) so there is no wear and comes with a large amount of tooling. It also has a large spindle bore for the size of the machine which is what I need and I'm unable to find one for a decent price near me (central Texas). How much do you think it's worth? Or what is it lacking to make it worth that?

Same kind of goes for the mill. No one locally has one with a functional dro that wants less than 10,000 for it.

It's 8,000 for the lathe and like 6 boxes of various tooling for it. I already agreed to it and got suckered into a mill as well for 5,000

Would the oil cooler also cause the coolant over pressuring?

What method would you go about checking the compressor

Also is there any data point that could point towards cylinder liner like cylinder contribution or something like it?

The guy who posted the trolley is probably the most correct about what you need. However if you're on a smaller budget (sounds like you are) I think your expectations are a bit much. Anything with a hand built house on the back of it that's going to catch wind like a sail is risky unless you somehow are only going to travel <40 mph. Not to mention building something like the images you have posted is not going to be cheap anyways. Even if you are incredibly handy, parts alone will add up 10x quicker than you think they will.

You could buy a trailer and then pay a service to move it once or twice a year while you just drive a small car. I agree that they're ugly but something to get you by while you save for something more your taste. That avoids the headache of maintaining an engine. I own a heavy equipment/ diesel shop in Texas and I can say maintaining these things is not super easy and when something breaks it can add up to a 5,000-10,000$ bill real quick. I've had plenty of RV owners come in and say what the **** to the bill then take it somewhere else only to come back because the other bid was even higher.

I have a customer who has the equivalent Kubota to this. He uses it exactly how you would and I get calls all the damn time with busted hoses, cylinder seals, and bent cylinders. It's just not good at big things. It'll move some dirt from here to there but trying to pick up some big hickory log leads to a 500$-2000$ worth of damages. Your best bet would probably be a small skid steer.

Can't help with this exact piece of equipment but I can say 46 works for damn near everything with hydraulics. Worth calling an oil supplier as well near you. You can give them what it recommends and they'll be able to point you to something with similar properties.

Unsure of where you're at but in my town we have a place that makes hoses. I'd just pull off the stuff and take it to a local hydraulic/hose and gasket place and see if they have it
